How do I keep jboss from trying to start?

I upgraded from 10.4.10 to 10.5. I read that Jboss isn't supported in 10.5 - which is OK since I don't need it and don't know why I had configured 10.4 to start it.
So how do I keep it from trying to launch? The console's filling up with the following messages:
11/1/07 5:47:34 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.webobjects.jboss323[11630]) Suspicious setup: User "appserver" maps to user: _appserver
11/1/07 5:47:34 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.webobjects.jboss323[11630]) posix_spawn("/Library/JBoss/3.2/bin/run.sh", ...): No such file or directory

11/1/07 5:47:42 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.dyld) Throttling respawn: Will start in 60 seconds

Hi!
I got the same problem, and here is a suggestion. I haven't tested it yet, but...
Go to: /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
Startup items are placed in this directory. Whenever the Server boots, they are launched. There are more directories like this, all with .plist-files.
There is a file called: com.apple.jboss.plist
Move it out from the directory (but don't delete it) and reboot your server.
If you have programs you want to launch at startup, you can write a .plist-file for them and put them in one of these directories. Apple has documented this somewhere, but I don't remember where.

  • How do I keep yosemite from trying to install?

My iPad 2 was rendered unusable by an Apple upgrade. I can't afford to have all of my business shut down as well. How do I keep yosemite from trying to install on my office computers?

Yosemite must be downloaded, you must deliberately do that, and then you must tell the installer to Continue to do the install...and then you must allow it to restart to do the install.  Multiple levels of intervention exist.
A Mac OS X version does not auto-download and install unless you have the App Store in System Preferences checked to allow that.
Make sure the auto-install is unchecked in System Preferences > App Store:

  • How to I keep Firefox from trying to dial into the internet?

I use a dial-up modem to access the internet at home. I recently installed Firefox 3.6. I have noticed that when I have hung up the connection, Firefox periodically (fairly frequently) brings up the box for me to dial into the internet again.
What causes this and how can I turn it off?
I have disabled the setting allowing Firefox to check for updates to itself or the add-ons. I have also disabled the setting to send information about Firefox crashes (and I haven't had any yet, anyway).
I'm certain that the web pages I am viewing do not require internet access, since they are local files that I am developing and have no need to get to the 'net for anything.
I know that the dialup popup is from Firefox, since the little icon in the top left corner is the fox-around-the-globe Firefox logo.
Thank you for any help you can give me.
By the way, the "current browser and operating system" below are incorrect, since I am writing message this from a different PC. I am running Windows XP, Firefox 3.6, Firebug addon, not sure what else.

I recently found out part of the problem myself.
By looking at Tools -> Error Console, I found that there were a number of errors having to do with Livemark Services.
I found the problem with these (I think!) by looking at Bookmarks -> Bookmark Toolbar and then something having to do with "headlines". By right-clicking and Delete, I think I can get rid of these annoying dialup popups every few minutes while I'm offline.
The Error Console also had a few messages about nsBlocklistService. I'm assuming that these are related to Tools -> Options -> Security and "Block reported attack sites" and "Block reported web forgeries". I don't think I'm ready to disable those at this point, so I'm hoping the number of dialup popups will be good enough without the "headlines".
By the way, the dialup popups occurred even when I was displaying nothing in the Firefox window except about:blank.
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • How do I prevent QuickTime from trying to start Adobe Photoshop?

I have been running adobe Photoshop v7 for a couple of years now on Mac OS X (10.4.3), and all of a sudden, the startup file is trying find QuickTime to open it. I get the following message:
QuickTime cannot open the file: "Adobe Photoshop 7.0" a file could not be found (-43)
I haven't done anything consciously different to warrant this. I have tried removing all Adobe files and reinstalling a couple of times, however, this doesn't help. I have tried Adobe discussion forums and also phone support; however, Adobe no longer supports v7. I have also tried Command-Option-Shift upon starting up Phososhop (to bypass preferences) - all to no avail.
    Any feedback? THANKS!

  • How do I keep FCP from auto-distorting my video when I drag it into the timeline?

FCP keeps auto distorting my video when I drag it into the timeline. It keeps setting the motion aspect ratio to -12.5, then when I set it to 0 and render, the video has lost significant quality even though I have my motion render settings to: best. I figure it is this motion distort which is ruining my quality on render because the avi from the camera is ridiculously clean and un-pixelated. How do I keep FCP from auto-distorting my video? It makes no sense that it does, because at -12.5 aspect ratio, FCP is creating a letterbox for my video. I just want the video to fill the entire canvas that I chose! There must be a setting somewhere that I have missed, but I cannot figure it out for the life of me. Please help!
I have a video shot on my Pentax K-r that is 1280x 720p 25fps. When run it in quicktime pro, the inspector affirms this sizing. And in QTpro there is no letterbox present when the original is played.
In FCP I have the sequence settings at:
    HDTV 720p (16:9) (which is 1280 720)
    Timebase: 25
I have tried to turn anamorphic on, then off in the clip format settings, and also turn the anamorphic on and off in the sequence settings. No combination seems to correct the problem.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you,
    ML

Hi I have done some more digging and found this:
    1) In the bottom left corner of FCPX, click the film reel so that you can see all your projects:
    2) Select the project you are having problems with and then in the inspector window, click on the spanner icon in the lower right side:
    3) Finally a window appears so that you can choose the settings for the video you are using:
    Hope that helps

  • How do I keep html from rendering in to a link, I need it to show

    Hi All,
How do I keep html from rendering into a link, I need the html code to show in a comment box so others can copy and paste it in other comments on a photo sharing site.
The code rightful renders into a link and the html no longer shows how do I stop
    it from rendering?
I would really appreciate any help! Thank you for your time.
    Cheers,
    Maria /eMe

    Hi Eme
I don't know for sure w/o trying the site, but I guess you mean that a href ="some-site.com" type things are rendering as links, rather than text people can read? same as these forums I spose.
first, try replacing the opening < with &#60; and the closing > with &#62; for both the initial <a> and the closing </a>
hopefully...that'll allow the code to be visible, tho' you may find the site still converts the url to a clickable link.

i have multiple devices backed up to the same computer each with different data. how do i keep them from syncing all data when i back up or transfer stuff from the computer to a device? one is an iphone 6 and the others are ipad mini first gens, each ipad has 64gb and the iphone has 128, need to keep the data seperate as they are not all mine

Itunes content and pics are NOT part of the backup that itunes performs.
Backing up, updating, and restoring iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone software
You should transfer any purchases from iphone regularly:  File>Transfer Purchases  , if they fail to be transferred when you sync.
You buy one and only one download.  It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your purchases.
You can try contacting itunes support and asking for an exception, but they are under no obligation to allow.

  • How can I keep lion from generating .DS_Store files on windows network partitions, but not disable it for all network partitions?

How can I keep lion from generating .DS_Store files on windows network partitions, but not disable it for all network partitions?  I am fimilar with changing the setting for all network partitions(defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true), but that is undesirable when I connect my laptop to my home network. A preferable solution would be where I could control the writing of these files based on disk format (NTFS vs HFS+).

Go to MacUpdate or CNET Downloads and search for ds_store. There are numerous utilities for preventing them from being transferred to Windows systems.

  • How do I keep itunes from putting things into the cloud after I've downloaded them?

Hello - Not everyone lives in Silicon Valley or New York City.  I have a relatively slow internet connection so it takes about 2 hours to download a 45-minute tv episode.  Yesterday I did that, and today I went to watch it and it had been put back in the cloud!  "No problem," says Apple, "You can download it again."  It takes f**** 2 hours to download it again.  How can I keep Itunes from putting things I've already downloaded back into the cloud?

How do I keep itunes from putting things into the cloud after I've downloaded them?
You don't. They are in the cloud as soon as you make a purchase. As in immediately/right now. They don't get uploaded from yoru computer to the cloud.
Did you delete it after you watched it?

How do I keep emails from being deleted on my iPhone 6? Emails get deleted from phone when I startup desktop computer and they are downloaded from sever. Is POP3 no longer supported on IOS 8.1?

    Have you seen this?
Using a POP account with more than one device - Apple Support
A better solution is if your email provider uses IMAP. IMAP sync email folders between multiple devices. Meaning any device will receive the email, all sent email can be seen on the devices. If you delete email from one device the email is deleted from all the other devices. Check with your email provider to see if they offer IMAP services.
If they do not your choices are to 1) configure email on the PC to keep Mail on the mail server or 2) change email providers to something like Gmail or Outlook.com (as examples). FWIW I use Cox IMAP email and fully sync email between a Win 8.1 Update 1 laptop, a Win 7 desktop, an iPad 4, an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 5S.

  • How do I keep iTunes from automatically transferring purchases from my iPhone?

Well, earlier in the year I had a Hard Drive failure. After having it fixed not all my files where on my Mac, including my iTunes media. So I connect my iPhone and it asks me if I want to transfer purchases? I click yes, the transfer wnet fine but some old media transferd too. I didn't want it so I simply deleted it. But when I plug my iPhone in now, it automatically says transfering purchases from Alex's iPhone. I then clicked on the "X" to cancel the task. But how do I keep iTunes from automatically transferring the old material?

iTunes/Preferences/Devices - Select "Prevent iPods, iPhone, iPads from syncing automatically."
