  • How do I keep my music on my phone when syncing to a new computer

Im syncing my phone to a new computer in order to install a new tone I downloaded on my phone. However, i have music on my phone and the new computer that I'm going to sync my phone to thats up-to-date, or that i want to keep. I have music on the new computer but its out-of-date to the music thats on my phone. iTunes is asking me to delete all the music on my phone and replace the music with the music thats on the new compter. I dont want this to happen, is there anyway to avoid this problem??

  • How can I keep a playlist on phone when syncing with new computer?

When syncing my IPhone I am prompted with an ominous message that says "Are you sure you want to remove the existing music ... from this phone and sync with this ITunes library? Music .... will be removed and items will be synced from this ITunes library" The answer is no because I have a playlist I would like to keep on the phone, but add one which resides on the computer I am attempting to sync with. That is not an choice presented, the choices are Cancel or Remove and Sync. Apple should either give more options or at least a better explanation. I have synced this phone and computer combination before but have since created a new playlist in the computer (a Mac Mini).
So how can I keep a playlist on the phone and add one from the computer too? Is it possible to view the phone as a drive and move items around in that manner? I use ITunes on both Windows and Mac platforms but this issue has always been problem for me. I also have IPhone 3 (used as an IPod), IPhone 4S and Iphone 5.

Unless you can get the iPod backup file (and restore the iPod from that file on your new computer) from the "dead" computer you will lose all the app data you can export via email.
    - Yu can trabsfer iTnes purchases from the iPod by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - You can transfer non-itunes purchased music to the new computer by using one of the third-party programs discussed in this previous discussion.

    - After you move the stuff to the new computer, either restore the iPod from the backup, or if no backup, restore to factory defaults, new iPod and sync.

  • How Do I Keep Music On Ipod Touch 4th Gen., But Not On Computer?

Yes, hello, I am wanting to cut down on the amount of space that is on my computer (I almost have 3GB in music and photos on my laptop.. lol, mostly music, though).  However, the problem I see with this right off the bat is that if I delete my music and photos (since they are also on my 4th generation ipod touch), they will be deleted of my ipod.  I know that I can manually manage music, and I know how to do that.  What I need to know is if there is a way that when I go to 'sync' my ipod manually, if I can just update with NEW songs and NEW photos- or, pretty much just 'sync' newly added files (that way, the newly deleted files will not be taken off my ipod).  If I go and 'uncheck' a playlist, it automatically will take it off my ipod.  What I really would like is an option to just add new material to each playlist, or add a new playlist, but not sync the whole ipod or the whole playlist (since, again, it would just end up deleting my songs that would no longer be on my computer).
I really don't mind itunes, however, I'm already figuring I will have to more than likely find a way to add my new songs and photos to my ipod WITHOUT itunes  (since this type of ipod, 4th generation touch, does not have the 'hard disk' feature, I need to know if there is any other way to upload music and photos).
However, if possible, I still want to be able to have the option to add to previous playlists and even create new playlists on Itunes so I can delete files off my computer, but not my ipod.  I just think it is a little inconvienant that with all of these high storage capacity ipods that they don't make it more clear on HOW to have that much space on the ipod WITHOUT filling up and slowing down my computer in the process
Also, I probably could just back-up my music and photos on my flashdrive (it is a 32GB), however, out of curiosity-  even if I AM able to find a way to delete songs and photos off my computer and still keep them on my ipod while still being able to add new songs and photos and create and add to previous playlists WITHOUT having to do a full sync, will there even be a way for my Icloud to NOT be affected and delete the now 'missing from itunes' songs and photos?  I am a firm believer that multiple back-up sources do not hurt (esp. since my flashdrive I've had for a few years now, and ICloud isn't a bad option for a secondary storage- although, I perfer skydrive)

Since you said "btw my ipod is frozen " first:
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If you regained use of the iPod without restoring (doubtful, restoring will also update the iPod)) then do the following:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
When you restore from backup the iPod will also be updated.

  • HT3819 How do I transfer music from my nano (3rd generation) to a new computer?

My laptop crashed that I had my iTunes downloaded on and am having to use a different computer but am having trouble figuring out how to transfer all my music to the computer from my nano 3rd generation. Help!

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases: File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.

  • I had my laptop that my iphone was backed up onto repossesed so now i have a new computer but i dont know how to put my music photos and video and apps on my new computer can somebody help??

I had my laptop repossesed and it had all my bak up from my iphone 4 on it i have a new computer but i cant put all my pics vids apps and songs on my itunes i really need help with this because alot of the photos and stuff i have on my iphone are sentimental as are the songs which all havnt been purchased through itunes please tell me there is a way to do this??//

Set the iTunes to prevent automatic syncing before you plug it in the first time. You should be able to extract any photos in the camera roll as you would from any other camera. You can transfer purchases to get anything you actually purchased from the iTunes store off the phone and into iTunes. Made sure you have at least 1 contact in whatever application you intend to sync contacts to. This will give you the option to merge them. If you don't, the phone will be overwritten with the blank address book from the computer.
As for extracting anything else, media sync is meant to be 1 way only. Computer>iPhone.
As for media that wasn't purchased on the phone, you can try a 3rd party program that 'may' be able to extract it, but this isn't sanctioned or supported by Apple in any way.  Technically, you're out of luck if you don't have a backup from the computer that was repossesed.

  • How do I transfer music from my old iPod classic to my new computer with a blank iTunes library?

I have over 700 songs on my iPod classic, a movie, and a few shows.
My old computer, which is totally fried, has my whole library.
My new computer has a blank library.
I want to transfer everything from my iPod classic, or even better, my iTunes library, to my new computers iTunes library.
How do I go about doing this both manually and with some sort of automatic application assistence (i.e., something I can download to do this for me)?
    Thank you so much.

  • Keeping Contacts & Apps when syncing iPhone with new computer

I just got a new netbook with Windows 7 Starter. I would like to transition from using my current work laptop to the netbook as the manager of my iPhone. When I try to sync my iPhone with the new computer it says that my iPhone's library is linked to another computer. It appears that all of my contacts and apps will be erased if I sync these items on the netbook.
Does anyone know a way that I can keep this information without erasing? I already erased my music content from the iPhone. I foresee a real problem since this netbook doesn't have Outlook and all my contact information is in that format. I also don't want to have my apps all wiped out. Thanks for the help.

iTunes content can be synced or manually managed with an iTunes library on a single computer, and photos can be transferred to the iPhone via the iTunes sync process from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from your iPhone first.
No other content is touched or erased when doing so including iPhone contacts especially if you don't select to sync contacts with a supported application on a new computer.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. If you haven't activated the new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes, you should do so before doing this.
With Windows, contacts can be synced with Outlook 2003 or 2007 along with calendar events, or with Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only.
If you don't have Outlook 2003 or 2007 available on the new computer, you will have Windows Contacts available. Before syncing contacts with Windows Contacts, enter one contact in Windows Contacts. Make the contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync with Windows Contacts, which you want to select.
There is no Outlook format or Apple address book format with contacts. You can sync contacts with Outlook 2003 or 2007 or with Windows Contacts on a PC, and sync contacts with Apple's address book on a Mac.
Contact, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks can be synced with the supported applications on multiple computers. With two Windows computers, with two Macs, or with a Windows computer and a Mac.

  • *MUST READ!!!* HOW NOT TO ERASE YOUR FILES WHEN SYNCING ON A NEW COMPUTER

Oh my GOD!! This is the biggest breakthrough since the discovery of fire.
Ever have a time when you had to erase ALL your files on your ipod/iphone/ipad because you are changing computers or your computer was destroyed?
    There is a  solution.
****This is needed by ONLY those who was syncing with the itunes on AT LEAST one category.(ex : music, video, app, books, pictures...) on the previous computer you were using.
If you had not synced with itunes on NO categories at all, and were doing EVERYTHING manually, you will not have any problems on a new computer, so you do not need this information.
Also, the ones who are trying to sync automatically(Seriously? you want to do that?) with itunes will not need this post. Do not read further.
So... the ones who are still reading are, 1. Have synced with itunes on at least one category. In my case, I was auto-syncing the application. 2. Have experienced enough frustration with itunes, therefore NOT thinking about syncing with itunes automatically.
ok. here it goes. When you go to a new computer, CHECK 'manage musics and videos manually'. And other categories(apps, pictures) should NOT be checked 'sync with itunes'. However, when you click apply, it will not work and require you to erase everything on your phone, even though you have pressed manage musics and videos manually. What I am saying is, even if you want to manage it manually, when you connect with a new computer, it will erase all of your data just for fun. Anyway, What you should do when this happens is, click yes. Then, itunes will start to erase all your precious info.
This is tricky now. 0.2 seconds after you click yes(yes, I will erase all my previous info), PULL OUT the usb cable!! HEH....
Then, when you put it back in, your iphone data will not have been erased, and the computer thinks that it erased all your files, and will give in to your command and follow your orders. Now you can manually manage your iphone on a new computer without erasing everything.
    I am so happy now.
***Disclaimer*** I will not take any responsiblitiy of the happiness caused by this post. Also, I will not take any responsiblity for any data-corruption or any other problems caused by implementing this method, although I am quite confident that as long as you don't take more than 2 seconds to pull the usb cable out after you pressed 'yes, i will erase', it will be okay.
P.S. If your life became better by this post, please say something below. Heh. Have a nice day.
P.P.S. Apple. Why do you erase everything on the phone when we decide to no longer sync with itunes? Is it THAT hard to make the option to let the user decide whether to erase the existing data on the phone?
P.P.S. Just a joke, but, I have once heard that the reason itunes is a memory hogger and take up so much space though it has really few options is because the programmer of itunes copied and pasted the source code 1000000 times.

Step 1. Backup your library regularly.
Step 2. After rebuilding/changing computers restore the backup.

  • How do I keep music organized by disc when adding as a folder?

I have a digital music library which consists of many live recordings and albums which are comprised of multiple discs.  Each album or live show has a folder which is named as the name of the album or date of show.   For multiple disc shows and albums within the parent folder, a folder exists for each disc and these folders are named disc 1 disc 2 disc 3 etc.   Within each disc folder reside the tracks which all follow the format of number (01,02,03 etc) and name.  I would like to be able to import each parent folder by using the add folder to library option under file but when i do the music becomes sorted by file name instead of by disc number.  If I use the add folder method and select the individual disc (disc 1 or disc 2 etc) then I can easily edit info and label the selection as disc 1 of 3 (or whatever)  Is there a way to add these folders labeled disc 1 disc 2 etc as multiple discs all at once by adding the parent folder and have itunes retain their order by disc instead of smooshing them together by file name?
