this morning something changed. when i opened firefox, all the sites previously listed in the so-called awesome bar have disappeared. i re-entered them, but when i open the browser again, they have again vanished. what have i done that could have changed this and what do i do to get it back to the way it used to be?

This might be a duplicate-I neglected to click submit-so am trying again.
Since I upgraded to v. 31, my location bar makes me type the address in exactly, or else it says not a valid address. I guess somewhere the awesome bar got lost. Also, my search box does not have any search engines listed at all. Back around v. 29 I added the classic theme restorer addon, but did not think that would have affected the location and search bars as it upgraded. Any help you can give me will really be appreciated. I have worked on this for days. At one, time the location bar was gone completely.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

Now when I enter a search item in the search box at the upper right of my screen, I'm automatically shunted to this new search bar where I have to re-enter my search item and click return before it will begin a search. First, some clarification:
* The location bar (often called the "awesome bar") is the larger bar on the left that shows you the address of the page you are currently viewing. As you type in the location bar it searches your history and bookmarks for matches.
* The search bar is the smaller one on the right. It typically displays an icon of whichever search engine is currently selected and may display search suggestions as you type in it.
It sounds like you are referring to the search bar rather than the location bar. You can change search engines for the search bar by clicking on the icon on the left edge of the search bar and choosing a different one. You can also choose "Manage Search Engines" to remove ones you aren't interested in using.
It also sounds like Bearshare might have changed your homepage in Firefox. To restore that you will need to open the preferences menu (click Tools > Preferences), go to the General tab (first on the top left), and click "Restore to Default".

The newest update of Firefox doesn't allow me to keep the find bar open when shifting through multiple tabs. I've tried Findbar tweak however that erases the search criteria as soon as I try to scroll down the page to the next location. How to make address and awesome bar not auto-expand?

I'm looking to customize firefox's appearance. I want two rows: one with the menu button, tabs, and awesome bar (in that order), and another with the forward/back buttons, address bar, home button, and bookmarks toolbar items (also in that order).
In both cases, the address bar and the awesome bar expand to fill all of the empty space (ei. my awesome bar starts spanning almost the entire row) and shrink as more items are added (ei. as I open more tabs). I would like to make it so they have a set size.

That's exactly what I did.
I created a chrome folder here: (home)/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/(....default)/chrome
Within which I created a userChrome.css file that reads:

How to stop the Firefox Awesome Bar from defaulting to Bing searches vs. Google?

Whenever I use the Awesome Bar within the browser Bing is defaulted to instead of Google. Occasionally the Awesome Bar will go to Google search but does not do so exclusively anymore. I just got the forced upgrade to Firefox 12, and while I don't care for most of the new interface, I can deal. That said, I can't stand the changes to the "awesome bar." Have you scanned your computer recently for malware?
Download this tiny program called Gooredfix from here http://jpshortstuff.247fixes.com/GooredFix.exe
Once downloaded, close all Firefox windows.
Open the GooredFix.exe file, and in the little black box that appears, press 1 and enter.
A white window will pop up. See if anything is found under the heading ==Suspect Goored Entries==. If so, open the GooredFix.exe file again and press 2 and enter.
Open up FireFox and see if your still having issues.
Also best to check your installed programs and uninstall anything you don't want in there. Also, do the Malwarebytes scan and virus scanning in Safe Mode if possible.

How do I keep the scroll bar from disappearing in the Mountain Lion update 10.8.5?

When I got the prompt yesterday that there was an update for Mountain Lion I went ahead and downloaded it, and it is awful! The scroll bar on the right side of the screen disappears too quickly now to use it easily, and is difficlut to get back, which adds extra steps (clicking on the down arrow while the cursor is in the scroll area then quickly clicking the arrow cursor while it is in the temporary scroll down bar. Or else this is from a Firefox update I did NOT actually download, but indications when I started up my computer today are that it did download somehow by itself without my permission, as there was a notice that some of my Mozilla ad-ons might not be compatible with this version of Firefox. I couldn't understand that since it should have been the same version of Firefox I used yesterday! I know I didn't download the new Firefox because the pop-up box went away very quickly each time it came up so I never did click on it. Does anyone know if the change in scrolling is a Firefox update or the OSX 10.8.5 update? I HATE it and want it off, but don't know which one is the culprit nor how Firefox updated itself without my consent. Aaaarrrggghhh!

How do i keep my paragraph style list from growing without my permission?

Im trying to keep my Paragraph styles organized. Everytime I add a table into my pages document it adds a new header or body eventhough all the fonts in the table are already set up with the paragraph styles that are in the document. Also it wont let me delete the style so I have to rename it and i do so with putting zzz in front of it so it goes to the bottom of the list. unfortnately, i can not figure this out.

How can I remove the search bar/list of recent chats on my iMessage app.

I don't want to delete all the convos. I want to just be able to ONLY see the chat of who I am talking to. No recents, etc. Currently, if i am using iMessage to talk to someone on my mac, a list of all the contacts I've messaged with appears on the side and it shows a preview of my chat.

How do I get the Awesome Bar to show up at the top of my Firefox Browser window?

From one day to the next when shutting down my computer to turning it on the next day, the bookmark toolbar, browser address window (& its attendant drop-down history links), Search window, Back Bar (the little arrow you click on to go back one link at a time), etc., all disappeared. At the top of my Firefox Browser is nothing but a gray line where tabs show up. I can, of course, go up to the Firefox Menu Bar at the top of my computer screen and click on File--New Window, but that takes extra time and is quite inconvenient (now that I am accustomed to have convenience of one click searching).
