How do I keep my current download speed?

I changed to Infinity earlier today and am getting 37.5 MBPS download speed. I understand from the engineer the next 3 days the link will be analysed in order to determine my requirement. What should I do to ensure my 'requirement' is 37.5 ?
Thanks

You can't as such as the process is automatic and will settle at highest stable speed your line will support. Avoid turning off or reset your router as the system can see that as instability. After a few days the line will stabilise and then it is less important what you do. Do not get hung up on the connection speed as few applications will be upset whether you connect at 37 or 32Mb/sec. Enjoy faster downloads and lower ping speeds most people get.

• How I resolved my Apple TV download speed problems

I have been experiencing download speed problems with my Apple TV2 for a while. The performance was so bad that I couldn't buy or rent movies from Apple TV, because it would take hours to even start the download. I wasn't sure if the problem was with my ISP (Comcast), the modem, or the wireless router.
I just logged in to my wireless router (Cisco Linksys E300) and changed the following two settings:
Network Mode = Wireless-N Only
Channel Width = 20 Mhz Only
After restarting my Apple TV2, movie streaming is now perfect. It took less than one minute to start the streaming of a recently purchased movie.
I recalled reading some time ago that a Network Mode which allows switching between B, G and N wireless modes can cause problems with streaming. Perhaps each time switching occurs, the Apple TV has to renegotiate with the iTunes Store. I'm not sure that the "Channel Width" setting is necessary or relevant, but since I'm happily streaming again, I don't really care.
I hope that this helps others resolve this problem.

If you have home sharing enabled on the Apple TV and an IOS running on the same network you can use the remote app. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a new remote.

• How do I increase the file download speed?

When downloading outside of firefox, I manage anywhere from 5mb/s to 16mb/s, depending what I am downloading and where from. Yet, when a file has to download from within the browser, it downloads at 1/30th to 1/10th of that if I am lucky. Is there some kind of restriction built in to firefox that I might be able to change or am I just S.O.L?

Download / upload speeds depend on 3 things.
* The speed of the ISP
* The speed of the sender
* The speed of the receiver
Since you seem to have decided Firefox is the issue, lets work on that.
Go to the '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ Mozilla Add-ons Web Page]''' {web link}
(There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for a download manager.
There are also external programs that can be used.

• HT1848 how do i keep APPS from downloading automatically on my macbook pro

I know this is itunes 101, but I still don't know how to get all my music/movies on the cloud or thru internet without getting all the apps my kids download all the time -help! I havw a MacBook Pro.

If they are downloading from the store as opposed to copying over from devices when they are synced, then go into iTunes > Preferences (command-comma) and on the Store tab on that make sure that Apps (under the 'automatic downloads' heading) is 'off'

• How to find out download speed

I've just upgraded my internet access and am curious as to what my current download speed is. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to find this out. Can anyone help? Is there something in the OS that would indicate this information? Is there a widget or freeware utility that would tell me? A quick search at Apple Downloads turned up nothing.
Thanks in advance.

For testing your maximum, try...

To observe it in real time, use Activity Monitor>Network Tab.
Can't remember if this is the Widget or not, not on Tiger at the moment...

• How can I speed up Firfiox download speed since it is very slow compared to Internet Explorer or Opera.

I first noticed that I was having trouble viewing videos on Firefox, but was able to correct that problem by doing something with Flash, if I recall correctly. Now I can view videos, but they are slow and choppy. When I check download speed using Firefox, it is 391 kbps (upload speed is 362 kbps). However, when I check download speed using Opera, it is 3161 kbps (upload speed is 367 kbps). Also, when I watch videos on Opera, of course, they are not choppy. I really want to continue using Firefox as my web browser. How can I make get the download speed back to normal?

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
Make sure that it isn't restricting Firefox in any way (we've sen Norton NIS software mentioned to cause issues like this).
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• MSI Z87-GD65 System. Slower Download speeds since upgrade.

I've recently upgraded my PC to an MSI Z87-GD65/i5-4670K based system from an Core 2 Quad, Win 7 64x setup.
I use Usenet frequently and since upgrading i seem to have lost around 1000KB/s in download speed when maxing out my line.
Before, i used to get around 9140KB/s max download using the onboard lan port on a Gigabyte P45 based motherboard. Port on old board was a Realtek 8111C Gigabyte chip.
Now i get around 8200KB/s max download using the onboard lan port on my MSI Z87-GD65 motherboard which is the Killer E2205 chip.
I'm using the latest Lan drivers for my chip and have tried older ones but come up with the same result.
Is there an obvious reason behind this speed loss? What i'm wondering is does Windows 8.1 constantly use the network to keep the app tiles updated and if so would it account for 1000KB/s of missing speed. If so, is there a way of stopping it using the network when I'm downloading stuff?
I don't think the speed difference is due to the different chipsets because i get the same speeds using various speed tests that i did before. Also i know its not a massive amount of speed loss (it's equivalent to 8Mbps) but its annoying me.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
My specs are as follows:-
i5-4670k
MSI Z87- GD65
16gb Crucial Elite 1866 using X.M.P
250GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD
MSI GTX770 2GB
Corsair HX850w PSU
Windows 8.1 Pro
I have no Wifi card or software installed so i'm just using the onboard ethernet.
Current download speeds shown in Speedtest.net is 74 Down 19 Up, however the Usenet speed i'm getting is around 64 Down (8200KB/s). Difference of 10Mbps. Ive checked settings on the Usenet provider side and they are correct.

I wouldn't worry - I am on ADSL2+ and my download is always higher than the profile and assumed that it is a glitch in recording the speeds.

• HT1551 How long should it take to download a movie on Apple TV?

I'm trying to download a movie using Apple TV. Screem says Ready to play in 10 hours 58 minutes. However, the time changes to various different times such as 15 hours then 9 hour then 20 hours.
Am I using up my minutes as it is loading? Should it take this long to load?

Hi anobles,
Download times for purchases & rentals from the iTunes Store will vary depending on the speed of your internet connection. The Apple TV will regularly recalculate your estimated time to download based on the current download speed that it is seeing. You may find the following article useful:

• I was experiencing slow downloading speeds

I was experiencing slow downloading speeds(13.68Mbps) so I called my ISP. The ISP tech asked me to disconnect the cable from the airport express & plug the cable directly into the iMac. When I ran the speed test again I got 40.34Mbps download speed. The tech said that was proof that the problem was with the Airport Express & not the modem. However, now I do not have WiFi. And now I am only getting an amber light on the Airport Express. Any suggestions on how to have WiFi without slowing downloading speeds? Note: Downloading speeds were good until this last week. Please help!

Hiya
Airport Express model 802.11 Version 7.6.4
Does it have two ethernet ports on it?? or just one?
You suggest that I replace the Airport Express with an Airport Extreme: I do have an Airport Extreme in another room by our TV & Blu Ray to enable Netflix movies. A Mac Store technician set up the wireless system that way in 2010. Can I use 2 Airport Extremes instead?
Yes, that is no problem. I am guessing the Extreme is linking by wireless?? Or do you have ethernet between the Extreme and Express?
I am afraid of suggesting this, but I would consider just swapping the roles.. put the extreme on the modem.. and the express on the TV and bluray player.. and it will probably work fine.
What are speeds like to the Extreme on the TV? Does netflix play properly?
If you shut down the Extreme, does the speed get better on the computer?
Are you suggesting that the modem should be bypassed and the Express should be connected to the Mac by ethernet?
Not exactly.. you should already have an ethernet from modem to the express.. can you plug another ethernet express to the Mac.. assuming your Express has two ethernet and not just one.
"Try manually setting channels and forcing bands with different name." : I do not have any idea of how to do this.
Try the simple alternatives above. We can consider this as well if those don't work.
Do you have someone you could call easily and cheaply to try and sort the problems??
Otherwise buying a new AE is actually probably just as cheap as getting a technician in to look at it. Not that new equipment wrongly setup will work any better than old equipment wrongly setup.. but you have a month of free phone support from apple when you buy it new.

• Changing PC's OS and Keeping My Current iTunes Files

I’ve got a Vista OS and the iTunes application currently on my C: drive that I want to format and put W7 on. All the music and video files that are linked to the iTunes application are on my D: drive. How can I keep the current iTunes configuration after installing the new OS on the C: drive? Are there iTunes files that I can copy off the C: drive before formatting it, installing W7, and put back on after reinstalling iTunes with the new OS and everything will be as it was?
Does that make sense? What I don’t want to do is lose my current iTunes libraries, back ups, configurations, etc. And I really don’t want to have to rebuild my libraries.

iPhone backups will be stored in the following folder on Vista machines
\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
(it's possible this folder is hidden so you may need to show hidden files). You can backup this folder as well if you wish. iTunes only keeps the most recent backup. If you wanted to be extra safe, you could force iTunes to create a backup just before you migrate your files, and then keep this backup safe. For more details on creating and restoring from backups see the following support article
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Your apps should already be on the D drive if you have this location set as your media folder location in iTunes. You can verify this to be the case by right-clicking on a few apps in iTunes, choosing Get Info and in the Summary pane it should give you the location of those files. This should be your D drive. Or you can browse in the iTunes Music (or iTunes Media) folder in your D drive and you should have a folder called Mobile Applications with all your apps sat in there).
