How do I keep my music on my phone when syncing to a new computer

Im syncing my phone to a new computer in order to install a new tone I downloaded on my phone. However, i have music on my phone and the new computer that I'm going to sync my phone to thats up-to-date, or that i want to keep. I have music on the new computer but its out-of-date to the music thats on my phone. iTunes is asking me to delete all the music on my phone and replace the music with the music thats on the new compter. I dont want this to happen, is there anyway to avoid this problem??

    Hi RaulRod,
Are you pressing the Sync button to transfer music after connecting your iPhone or do you have the option checked to 'Automatically Sync when the iPhone is connected?'
Have you tried manually dragging and dropping music from your library into your phone?

Are you syncing to a different computer?  Iphone will sycn with only one at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content.
Otherwise, just select what you want to be on the iphone under the music tab and sync.  What do you care if it erases?  You will be syncing what you want to the iphone.

    Any ideas? HELP!

Copy the entire iTunes folder (not just music) from your old computer to your new one using one of the methods discussed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527.  If you can't do that, see Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive.

  • How do I keep my music on my ipod when transferring to new itunes

I downloaded itunes onto my laptop and I want to transfer my songs from my ipod onto this itunes.  The original itunes with all my music is on a desktop computer and stored away.  The new itunes keeps wanting to "sync and erase" all my memory.  How can I keep my memory from getting erased on this new itunes?

Unfortunately there is no way to transfer the music from your iPod to your new library without the help of third part software.  However you can always download all your purchased music again to your new library by following the steps here. Anything from CD's or other sources will have to be manually imported but once all of that music is in there, then you can confidently erase and sync, knowing that all your music will be erased but synced back over.

Keep in mind that the recovered photos will not be in their full resolution, but instead will be the scaled down versions that were optimized in size and resolution to fit your iPod's smaller LCD screen.

    1. In Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options > View. In the Advanced Settings list, under Hidden files and folders, check the radio button for “Show hidden files and folders”. Then click OK. You’ll get a Windows security warning but it’s safe enough to disregard it as we will only be disabling this function for a short while.
    2. Plug in your iPod. In Windows Explorer, a folder will now appear with the name of your iPod.
Double-click on that. Go to the sub-folders “iPod_Control” and then “music”. You’ll find your music there randomly scattered across multiple folders and with scrambled file names. But don’t worry, the ID3 tags are still fully intact and we are now going to “unscramble” the files.
    3. But first copy all the music from those iPod folders into a new folder on your hard-drive. Move all the songs into one single folder and discard all the folders that your iPod made. By the end, you should have one folder in your hard-drive with all the scrambled files together.
    4. Open up iTunes and do the following : Go to Edit > Preferences. Under the Advanced tab, under the General “sub-tab”, select the local folder where you have copied the music from your iPod (by clicking Change…).
Check the box “Keep iTunes Music folder organized” and click OK. Also make sure you have wiped all previous music from iTunes so your playlists are blank.
    5. In iTunes, click “File” then “add folder to library”. Select the folder where all your copied music is. iTunes will now re-import all your music back into the playlists. But more importantly, because you have previously clicked “Keep iTunes Music Folder organised”, iTunes will now start renaming and organising your songs into their correct names, albums and folders. This may take a while depending on how many songs you have in your iTunes library.

  • How can I transfer my music from my iPod (4G Touch) to a new computer with windows 7?

Help.  My old computer crashed and all my music from my CDs is still on my iPod but I need to get it into itunes onmy new computer with windows 7.  I have found a number of procedures online that apparently work for earlier versions of windows but i can't figure them out for windows 7.  Any suggestions from folks who have solved this proble would be appreciated.

    - Connect the iPod to the computer and transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - To transfer other music you will nee a third-party program like those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - If you have synced photos then you will have to use a paid program like TouchCopy or PhoneView. Those also do music
    - Then connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.
Note that the backup does not contain synced media like app and music.
