How do I keep my selections the same size when placing in another picture?

Using PSE 4, I am trying to take my head from one picture (Using the selection tool, etc) and place it in another. The problem is, whenever I try to do that, it changes sizes; gets smaller. Yesterday, I tried to take a part of larger picture and place it into a smaller picture. I tried to resize the background picture but it made the cutout I placed on top of it humungous. I just want to know, is there anyway to keep the actual size of something you cut out, and place in another picture, that same size no matter what? By the way, I have literally been using PSE 4 for 3 days. If you answer, please speak in layman's terms as much as possible. Thank You.

The size, in pixels, is staying the same. Most of the time, this is the way you should think of image size. Working in inches is only meaningful when you are about to print.
In your example, if the piece you have added is too small, select it and use Transform to make it bigger. This is upsampling, so quality may be compromised.

How can I keep tabs on the file size when importing from the Event Library into a Project? I want to ensure the movie will fit onto a 4.7Gb disc?

iDVD does not care about file sizes, as it compresses the file to the standard DVD format of mpeg2.
It only cares about length i.e. max 2 hours including titles etc.
iDVD encoding settings:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/11417.html
Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced technology to encode your video, resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned abo
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

• How do I keep a table the same size but change the width of columns?

I know this is probably a really stupid question. But after looking online and at the table palette... I still can't figure it out! In Quark, I can "maintain the geometry" of a table by clicking a box. That way, I can change the width or height of rows and columns... without changing the overall size of the table itself. How do I lock down the overall size of a table in InDesign? Thanks...
Julie

@Julie – you can change column width by alt + shift + dragging left or right cell sides without changing the overall size of the table.
For other table goodies see:

• In Photoshop V5 -How do I keep photos in the same order when Exporting a Collection to a Folder

Hi
In order to resize photos ready for Premiere Elements, I am Exporting my Collection to a folder, from the Organiser.
I then resize that Folder using Process multiple Files.
I then can import that Folder into PE.
BUT, the export seems to change the photo order to an apparent random order.
The Collection is in the right order, and there seems no options in the export dialogue to impact the order in the exported file.
Thanks
Chris
PS I am about to upgrade to version 7, but would like to get my process sorted out before then. maybe 7 does it differently.

Hi DJ
Thanks for the quick reply.
The good news is that what you suggest simplifies my process a lot. So thanks for that.
The bad news in the order in still wrong. I.E it's not as the collection order, but it is the same order as the Process Multiple file route!
So a step forward, but not quite there yet.
Thanks so far!

• HT4236 How do you keep photos in the same sequence on the iPhone that they are on the PC folder?

How do you keep photos in the same sequence in the iPhone as they are in the folder on the PC??

When I sync my photos they are listed alphabetically (by folder) and within the folders, listed alphabetically again by the name assigned to the photo. The only way I can think of to keep the order that you have in your computer would be to assign a letter as a prefix to each photo. If you have more than 26 photos in a folder, you can double the letters, etc. I think that will keep the photos in the order you want.

Yeah - I tried that, several times; each time I get "iTunes is restoring the software on this iPhone" and after about 30 minutes the screen on the phone lights up again with the same screen I had before. After that ... nothing.

• How do I create a column the same size?

How do I create a column the same size?
I'm concatenating up to 6 cols into one col. If one of the column has a space it will shrink it (I used varchar2 and char) .
e.g: col1= '123456', col2= ' ', col3= ' ',col4= ' 123', col5=' 51',....etc
I want to see them as :colx= '123456', ' ', ' ',' 123',' 51'
Thanks for your help.

You are alomost right,:-)
since OP said :If one of the column has a space it will shrink it (I used varchar2 and char) .
So you should use replace function not trim function.
test > select replace(' a b c ',' ') from dual
2 /
REP
abc
test > select trim(' a b c ') from dual;
TRIM(
a b c

• When exporting to PDF, the pictures are not the same size I "placed" them

I am "placing" pics that are 653 x 983 pixels, 300 DPI, using CS4. However, my issue is when exporting to PDF, the PDF doesn't look like the same size I "placed" the pic until I blow it up to about 350%. I do not have a printer set up to my computer so I can't do the print/pdf option. Am I doing something wrong here? I can't figure it out. Your help is appreciated. Thanks!

Well, right when I open the PDF, it's just way too small, imagine it being the size of a business card. I have to keep zooming in until it gets to the size I originally intended it to be. When I create a new document am I suppose to make it the same size as the picture?

• I cannot select the Paper Size when I try to print with HP Photosmart B110a with Windows 8.1 64bit

I cannot select the Paper Size when I try to print with HP Photosmart B110a
The same printer was working OK with my old PC with OS Windows 7
However I got a new PC with OS Windows 8.1 64bit
I installed the new driver for HP Photosmart B110a that I dowloaded from HP site. Driver forWindows 8.1 64bit.
In addition to not being able to chose the paper size, also when I go to Printer Properties in Options, all the characters are non-ascii.
Do you know what may be the problem?
Thank you

Hello Nanu64,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some issues when attempting to print from your computer.
I also see that you stated that not all the options are available in the printing preferences options. This could be because the installation was not complete or it failed.
I suggest that we do a complete uninstall/ reinstall as well as some additional steps.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
If you have the printer connected to the computer with a usb cable, please remove the cable from both ends and leave it disconnected until further notice.
The next link that I have for you will give you detailed instructions for Uninstalling the Printer Software. Once the uninstall is complete, reboot the computer so that the changes take affect.
When the computer is back up and running, please disable any firewalls or anti virus protection you may have running. We don't want anything getting in the way of the reinstall.
The following download is the HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers. Save this download to the desktop of the computer so that it creates its own icon. This will make it easy for us to find when the download is complete.
Double click the new icon and follow the installation instructions. The installation will give you connection options (Wireless , usb or Ethernet), if connecting usb, please wait for the prompt to connect the cable. Connecting the usb cable before hand can cause an issue with the installation.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
Thanks for your time.
Cheers,

• How to resize watermark to be the same size for vertical/horizontal images?

I am using File -> Place menu to place my watermark onto the images.
No matter what I try so far, the absolute size of the watermark comes out different Portrait/Landscape images.
Watermark is smaller on Portrait and larger on Landscape images. I tried resizing writing in the number of pixels during the File->place command, but no luck. Photoshop resizes the watermark based on the percentages, and I don't know why image orientation matters.
ideally I want my watermark to be the same size, and I can use absolute pixel dimensions if needed. How do I do this?

Hi Doug - What exactly are you trying to do? Is the third
child being added dynamically, and you want it added above the
first child? If so, you can use the addChildAt() method when adding
the child to the container. addChildAt() takes an index and the
child object is added at that index and all other children are
reshuffled to maintain the ordering. IE:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="vertical">
<mx:TitleWindow layout="vertical" id="tw">
<mx:Button id="a" />
<mx:Button id="b" click="go();"/>
</mx:TitleWindow>
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
private function go():void
var c:Button = new Button();
c.label="new";
tw.addChildAt(c, 0);
]]>
</mx:Script>
</mx:Application>
Does that help, or am I misinterpreting what you're trying to
do?

• How can I keep apps in the same spaces?

I must be missing something, but -- in OS 10.6, I could use spaces to make sure my frequently used apps opened in the same spot, and not on top of each other. How can I accomplish the same thing in Lion?
Thanks

Hi kelori617,
If you are having issues organizing the Apps on your iPhone via iTunes, you may want to double-check the steps in the following article and make sure you are syncing any changes to your device:
iTunes 11 for Mac: Sync and organize iOS apps
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12115
iTunes 11 for Windows: Sync and organize iOS apps
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12315
If all of the steps are correct and the changes still aren't being retained when you restart your iPhone, you may want to make sure your data is backed up, then try restoring your iPhone to factory settings, restore your data from the backup, then test to see if you can organize your apps via iTunes:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

• How do you make all your pictures the same size when making a movie?

I am putting together a presentation with jpeg images and .mov files and when they play together in the movie, the .mov do not fill the screen like the jpeg images (which were put together in a movie) - any ideas?

Mixing image and QuickTime video formats is a fun way to build custom movies. You need only understand the best method of organizing your project before starting in QuickTime Pro.
Your image files should be sized to match your video dimensions. Scaling the video up in dimensions will degrade the video quality and you don't want that. Best to edit your JPEG files to the dimension and orientation of your video. Best to "crop" images that are shot in "portrait" mode and scale down in dimension those shot in "landscape" mode so you don't bloat the file size unnecessarily.
When adding images to QuickTime files it's best to add them "scaled" to the audio track portion of the file. Since you also want to add existing "movies" I'm guessing you already have an audio track to use as a background track.
Is this true? Are you using an audio track as the source for your image files and then dropping the existing movies into that finished project?

• IMovie 11, v.9.0.4, How do I keep clips in the same spot in the timeline?

So I have random video clips, and an audio track, recorded all from one music recording session. I want the audio in the background (I just dropped it in to the timeline as a background audio track) and I have various clips from different cameras that I want to drop in and keep sync'ed to the music.
Thing is, when I want to remove, say video clip 3 of 5 from the timeline, and I delete video clip 3, clips 4 and 5 now slide right up to clip 2, and the painstaking synchronization with the audio is lost.
How do I avoid this problem? Ideally the video would stay where it is, once I somehow 'lock' it in place in the timeline.
Thanks, and let me know if this makes sense.
-s

Recently I went into iMovie and selected my iPhoto video imports. The audio use to work fine while reviewing them in the 'iPhoto Videos' pane in the lower right corner of the window. I could just place my pointer over a spot and hit my space bar and hear the audio for that clip. Now nothing! All my other clips imported from a camcorder work fine. The project's in the project section, that audio works fine. I can select a clip from the 'iPhoto Videos' pane and drag it up to the project area and the audio suddenly works there... but not down where I got it. I haven't changed any settings that I'm aware of. Like I said they worked fine a while back. So any ideas what the heck is going on? Oh I have a real old MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a) running it all. That might be the problem. I update when it calls for it but other than that... that's it. I'm glad it just still works!

• Help!! How do you keep objects in the same order in a 20 page doc when inserting a new object?

I am creating a catalog of pictures only, as objects.
They are organized alphabetically, 4 images per page as a 2x2 grid, for 20 pages.
I want to insert a NEW object (image) in the middle of these 20 pages, and want all the objects after it to shift over one spot to make room.
How do I get the objects after the inserted ones to shift, as text would if you inserted more text in the middle of a paragraph?
I can't figure out how do do that (without just putting the images in a text box and in-line, but then I lose all the spacing controls)...
Thank you!
Lawrence

ID ships with a free Image Catalog script in the sample scripts. You don't need to buy one.
And that isn't going to do what you want, exactly. You'd have to re-run the script each time you add an image to make a new file, and you don't get to set the sort order yourself.

• How do I make still Images the same size as the video when importing? CS5

Hi,
I'm having a problem importing and using still images as they are so large.
The video is 720 x 576 and the image I want to use is 4752 x 3168
How can I scale it down to fit with the video. Currently it just zooms in to a part of the picture making it pretty useless.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
