How do I keep Photoshop from opening the Help Window???

I have been using Photoshop and the Help window keeps opening in a browser window. This happens for me when I double click the layer styles in the layer editor, and it happens at work once a week or every other week. Hoped there was a fix for this... it has crashed Photoshop CS6 for me twice. Usually it just opens up 4 to 10 windows in explorer, all with the Help & Tutorials page.
Windows 7 64bit

There is some kind of corruption that causes help to pop up repeatedly.  I don't think anyone's ever nailed it down, and it's happened in Photoshop versions going back seemingly forever.
It's important to note that the root cause may well be many different things.  All that's required is to corrupt the data structures Photoshop uses to manage its event loop so that (who knows what) results in bringing up help as though you pressed F1.
Can't say I've seen it in Photoshop CC (yet), though.

Preferences > File Handling and uncheck "Use Lower Case" (Mac)
or in the same area in the Windows version, choose "Use Upper Case" from the drop-down menu.

  • After printing to file, how do I keep document from opening?

I installed new reader-then uninstalled it. Gone back to Reader 11. Document printed to file is automatically opening. How do I keep it from opening?

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br /><br />

  • How can I keep iTunes from opening when I insert a CD?

I have gone through the preferences again and again, and I can't find a way to keep iTunes from opening whenever I insert a CD. iTunes is not my preferred player/encoder, and I don't want it to open unless I tell it to.
Case in point, I'm converting many CDs to mp3, using an application that gives me the filename format I want (iTunes isn't that flexible enough to do that). It is annoying for iTunes to keep butting in, every time I insert a CD!
    Thanks for any advice.
    L.

When you first insert a CD your Mac comes up with a box saying
"You have inserted a CD" (duuh, Apple...)
Then you choose from a pop-up menu that offers "Open in Finder", "Open in iTunes", etc
At some point you (or someone) has chosen "Open in iTunes" then checked the little box that says "Make this the default from now on".
If you go into System Prefs (as already mentioned) you have a choice to reset what you want to do with a blank CD.

  • If I have a pinned homepage; How can I keep Firefox from opening a second tab. None of the answers on this site help at all

I have a local html file on my system that I use as a homepage in Firefox. This homepage has a list of links that I regularly use. I have this file homepage pinned in Firefox. Every time I open Firefox not only do I get my pinned homepage, I get another tab with the firefox homepage opened and focused on.
All I want to load when I open Firefox is my chosen homepage. That is it. How do I stop this second tab from opening?
None of the older questions and answers on this site seem to work. Why is this so hard. It works in Google Chrome out of the box but I'm migrating away from Chrome because Google decided to break my extensions without my permission by not allowing third party extensions to be loaded, only ones listed in their store.

I do not see why it should not work for you. I have just tried doing that and it works for me.
First of all double check what is shown on your list of home pages. Firefox may be set to open more than one home page, each one as a separate tab. The listing separates the tabs with a pipe symbol | (Often the key above the Ctrl key)
    * See [[How to set the home page]]
Another possibility is that you have set Firefox to restart with the tabs from the previous setting.

  • How can I prevent Firefox from opening the file I create when I print a page with PDF Create! 5

After I print a web page using PDF Create! 5, Firefox opens the file so i can view it. Before I print, I select print properties and disable "view resulting pdf". However, the file is always opened in Adobe Acrobat, although I believe I have Adobe Reader set as default. I do not want any file to open. This happens on my non-privileged accounts. On my privileged account, the file is not opened. I have removed Firefox profiles, re-installed Firefox, Reset Firefox in Help-Troubleshooting. PDF Create!5 print screen can only be viewed in a host program such as Firefox, Libre-office Writer, or any other program that prints. They do not open the file either.

Thanks for your help. This is the Scansoft (Nuance) program. What I do not understand is why when I tell the print driver not to open the file with a privileged account, it obeys me. I am not sure where in the registry I would look for the information. I do not want to, but perhaps I should remove the Adobe Acrobat program (temporarily?) - then what would it do? Again, when I print from other programs - browsers, wordprocessors, etc - the file is not opened after printing, just with FireFox. I guess I can live with it, I have spent too much time already.

  • How do I stop Firefox from opening the Firefox start page as a tab when I open the browser?

New Dell Laptop and new Firefox download. Have used Firefox for several years. This time it loads the Firefox Start Page automatically as a tab every time I open the browser. I can't find how to turn it off. I did not set it up to do this intentionally.

See the [[Firefox has just updated tab shows each time you start Firefox]] article for details of how to solve this.

  • How do i keep lion from opening programs on startup?

I want my computer to start clean and fresh.  How do I tell Lion to close everything on shut down or more importantly not open on startup?

Check through these articles; there are several ways to deal with this new feature Resume:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/01/turn-off-resume-per-app-in-mac-os-x-lion/
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20083707-263/managing-mac-os-x-lions-applic ation-resume-feature/?tag=mncol;title
Also, there is a keyboard shortcut when shutting down - there will be no dialog window or any other warning; shutdown is instantaneous (this will eliminate having to uncheck the box in the dialog window):
    Command + Option + Control + Eject

  • How do I stop Firefox from opening the Getting Started page - tried many things already!

Each time I start Firefox it does two things:
1 - It checks plugin compatibility.
2 - It opens the Getting Started Page.
I have just installed the latest 8.0.1. version.
    I run on Windows7 Ultimate.
Have not used Firefox for a year due to this with previous version doing the same.
Have tried all support recommendations: closing tabs, saving etc.
Surprised to see no one else with these issues and no support?
    Thanks

  • How do I keep iTunes from accessing the internet? (It's not MiniStore)

I just did a clean upgrade from iTunes 5.0 to 6.0.2. Now, with 6.0.2, however, as soon as it loads up, it tries to access the internet (224.0.0.251 Port 5353).
I realize this is the multicast address, however, I do NOT want iTunes trying to access the internet unless I tell it to. I have already done the following:
    1. The MiniStore is hidden
    2. Check for updates is turned off
    3. Podcasts are set to check for new episodes Manually
I don't want to have to block it at the firewall, because I don't want to lose the ability to have iTunes connect to the internet - I just don't want it doing it without my knowledge and permission.
So, what else can I do to stop this from happening?
    PC   Windows XP Pro

It seems, as if me and my client have kind of the same issue. Any suggestions to this: I sent my client an invitation via my iCal from my iMac (using my yahoo calendar as the exchange server). My client accepted the invitation. Now I have deleted this appointment from my iCal and my yahoo calendar. But my client is not able to delete the appointment in his iPhone 4S. What can my client do?
My client already went to the next apple store. There they told him to plug in his iPhone 4S to my iMac. Then he would be able to delete the appointment. Honestly, this does not make any sense to me. Why does my client have to come to me and plug in his iPhone into my iMac to get a meeting deleted. What if my client lived in a different country?????
My client is really upset about this. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

  • How do I stop finder from opening a new window every time I download an image (drag and drop)?

Before I updated my computer I could drag and drop a new image from the internet to wherever I wanted on the desktop. Now when I download a new image from the internet it opens the "Desktop" finder windo. Also it systematically downloads the new image to be placed underneath the last downloaded/organized file. How do I stop it from doing both of these things?

Try relaunching the Finder > Relaunch Finder… from the Mac OS X Finder

  • DW 4 - can I stop it from opening the objects window by default

I've used Dreamwaver 4 for years, and have closed the objects
windows a few hundred thousand times because it opens by default
every time I open an html file. Is there any way to set the default
so that the objects window does NOT open automatically. The
properties window also opens by default, but that is fine. Any
suggestions on how to stop the object window from opening every
time, or even if it can be done...

Pure guesswork, but when I had problems with iTunes launching again and again, the reason were my external speakers. I simply had to unplug the speakers  from the line-out socket, and iTunes stopped launching on its own.

  • How do I stop Firefox from opening a new window when I go to a search item?

When I do a search, and click on a topic, Firefox opens a new window on the tool bar at the bottom of my screen. How can I stop this from happening?

I'm guessing you use Google for search. There is a setting in Google search to open each result in a new window. (When you use tabbed browsing, that means each result opens in a new tab.) You can check on whether you have that setting turned on as follows:
On a Google results page, click the button on the right side with the "gear" icon, then click Search Settings from the drop-down list. At the bottom of the page is the setting to open results in a new window.
    Is that the culprit?

  • How do I stop Firefox from opening old tabs/windows after a crash?

whenever it crashes and i try to reopen the program, it opens all my old tabs and windows. often these are videos which all start playing at once. or worse, it opens the page that made it crash in the first place and crashes again.
how do i stop this annoying feature?
if there's no way to stop it, can you recommend a simple browser that doesn't try to think for you?

hello, enter '''about:config''' into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash'''. double-click it and change its value to '''false'''.
