How do I kill MobileMe on my 1.1 2006 mac Pro?

I have this repeating in the activity monitor every 20 Sec
3/27/14 9:09:05.048 AM SystemUIServer: [0x7fcb4cd38520] |Mingler|Error| failed to connect to the server: NSInvalidReceivePortException connection went invalid while waiting for a reply

I think this might be due to MobileME
so I tought I could just shut it down and kill it but no luck
its pane in system preferences shows
Signed in to MobileMe
and account status   An error was returned from the server please try again later
this makes sense as mobileMe is a dead service
any attempt do anything to the mobileMe pane such as sign out select sinc to turn it off etc results in  the System preferences hanging up and reporting not responding in the force quit window
and the repeating activitey monitor then shows

The culprit is Mingler. If you search on "Mingler" you'll find lots of info. However most of the soltuions are really old and might no longer apply.
Mingler is responsible for doing a lot of the work of the deprecated Sync Services framework -- iCloud contacts, bookmarks, calendar entries, etc.
You can try disabling the different sync options in the iCloud preference pane and see which, if any, improves matters.
Calendar sync is often the culprit. Corrupt events could be the cause. If you quit iCal does the error go away?
What about the Address Book?
See Solving iCloud-Related Slowdowns in Lion http://tidbits.com/article/12796 for an example of corrupt bookmark sync.
If you use Entourage or Outlook for Mac, try disabling Sync Services in Preferences.

No not bothered about sycing apps etc it is all about calendars and maybe notes. IN terms of how its done I just want it the easiest way and preferably so that if an entry is made on one calendar then it populates the other.
Thgius is beacuse I have my work diary on outlok, which I then link with my ical. I want to make sure that information is then shared with her.

How large can an internal hard drive be on a Mac Pro part #ZOD8 ?

Mac Pro tower can support drives up to 4TB is size.
If running 10.8.4, 10.8.5 or 10.9.0, there is a bug in Disk Utility that precludes proper erasing of drives over 2.2TB as Internal drives

  • How can I install Windows7 -64BIT on a 1st Generation Mac Pro 2.66GHZ Quad?

    Hi,
I posted this in Bootcamp but haven't received any replies so I am reposting it here where perhaps it really belongs. Is it possible to install Windows 7 64 bit on a 1st Generation Mac Pro 2.66Ghz?
Apple suggests that it's not possible and yet I've seen several Googled posts where the users have successfully installed 64 bit on a 1st Generation Mac Pro. The problem is that they've done this creating a bootable iso disk(whatever that is) using a Windows computer with imgburn and windows commands. I'm pretty good at following instructions but I haven't seen any instructions on how to install Windows 7 on this machine using a Mac based approach.
I'm using BootCamp and was able to partition the drive into NFTS and "proceed" with installation; however all the installations failed during setup and Windows would not boot; disk repair was not possible. Besides, from what I've gathered, 32 bit is problematic around memory issues.
When I try installing 64 bits, I never get past the "select cd rom 1 or 2" message where the keyboard won't work. It is at this point where others say they have successfully proceeded with moving forward by creating a bootable iso disk.
Problem is it's all Windows based with exe files and presupposes I already have Windows running.
I'm not sure I really understand how to create an iso disk, but I do have ROXIO TOAST 10 which is capable of burning "ISO" disks.Does anyone know how to do this and/or can you point me to a place where there are instructions on how to proceed?? While I realize Apple says that some mid 2006 mac pros aren't supported, there are multiple posts of windows 7 users successfully installing Windows 7 on a 1st Generation Mac Pro.
    Thanks.
    Mac Pro 2.66GHZ Quad Core

I have a March 2009 Mac Pro dual quad core running Win7 Pro 64 bit. I have Windows installed on a dedicated internal hard drive. There are no partitions, the entire drive is for Windows use.
Here's how I installed it, I did not start with BootCamp. Make sure the drive you're going to use for Windows doesn't have any important files on it because it will be formatted.
    1. Update Snow Leopard
    2. Place the Windows cd in the Super Drive
    3. Shut down the computer
    4. Remove all the hard drives except the one you want Windows installed on. Keep track of the order they are in and at the end replace them in the same order.
    5. Boot the computer holding down the Option key
    6. Boot to the Windows cd
    7. Install Windows and format the drive to NTFS
    8. When Windows needs to restart during installation you'll need to hold the Option key and boot to Windows, not the Windows cd.
    9. After Windows installs, place your Snow Leopard disc in the Super Drive
    10. The Drivers for Windows will be installed along with a Windows version of BootCamp.
    11. Go to Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update
    12. Update again until it's done.
    13. You'll also find a BootCamp under Control Panel, check it out.
    14. Shut down the computer and replace the hard drives in their original order
    14. Now if you turn on the computer it will boot to Snow Leopard, but if you hold the Option key during boot you can select Windows or Mac.

Take the memory card out of the camera and insert it into a card reader then use Finder to copy the iomages over to a folder on the Mac desktop.
Basically the exact same way you would do it on any make or model computer.

There's no "New File" shortcut in Finder on Macs, so you have to launch the application you want (eg TextEdit), create your document, and save it there. There are workarounds using Terminal (the touch command), AppleScript/Automator, and using third-party launch programs like Quicksilver, but natively, it can't be done.

  • How do I replace a bad RAM chip on my Mac Pro?

When I start up my Mac, I keep getting a window that tells me to restart my computer. I've run Disk Warrior and saved my files to an external hard drive, but I still get the little black window telling me to restart my computer. No matter what I do. Now, I can't even run Disk Warrior again. The tech people at Alsoft say that it's very possible that my RAM chip is bad, and that it needs to be replaced. How do I do that? And where do I get RAM chips?

Before replacing RAM chip, you'd better check them with Apple Hardware Test or memtest OSX.

Memory sticks are available at OWC or Amazon, though it depends on your Mac Pro model.
