How do i know an airport card is installed & not working or not installed?

My Mac details are:
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro1,1
Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
I've always just connected to the internet via an ethernet cable to my router/modem, but now I don't want the long cord going from the phone line to the office within the house. I have a Airport Express and was wondering if I could set this up in the lounge and connect my computer/laptop/stereo etc.
To do this do I need to have an airport card installed. If so, which one and are they easy to instal?
Appreciate any help.
Cheers

If you remove the side door and look down at the mother board, you can observe if the airport card is there. You can also use ASP . There are kits for the bluetooth and airport card available. Installation is not difficult. The difficult part is finding the connector wires. these are tucked at the top border of the mother board. The other issue is which lead goes to which connector. You can find the answer on the internet, just Google it.
Bottom line on the original Mac Pro the wireless reliability with that card is short range. Must have not too much interference.

  • How do I know which airport card to purchase for ibook 14.1 LCD 900 MHz

I just bought a used ibook for my son and he wants to connect to our home wireless network. I can't tell if I need an Airport card or an Airport Extreme card. Do I need the Airport base station or will the card enable it to connect to any wireless network/hotspot?
We have 3 desktops and been faithful Mac users since the the very first one but I've never had so much trouble even trying to figure out what model this laptop is!

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu; if the computer has a G3 processor, it takes the AirPort card, while an iBook G4 takes the AirPort Extreme card.

You can use any base station which supports the 802.11b or 802.11g protocols. An AirPort card cannot use 802.11g.

  • How to know which airport card?

Hi, I have an iBook G4 with the small display; an acquiantance has the same laptop and she can use the wireless internet at our house no problem. Now I know I don't need a base station to be able to log into wireless but I don't know which airport card I should get; express, extreme etc ... any clues?
    thanks

Rubens, Welcome to the discussion area!
That's easy! Every iBook G4 (without built-in wireless) uses the AirPort Extreme card.

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
    6. System Preferences > Sound> Sound Effects

Select "Internal speakers" and then back to "Selected sound output device".

  • How do i know which credit card is connected to my apple account?

Hi i just wanted to know if i was going to make a payment through apple how do i know which credit card the payment will be on, thanks.

On your computer's iTunes you should be able to view your payment info by going into the Store > View Account menu option and logging into your account, and on your account's details page there should be a payment link (you can only have one credit card on your account at a time). If you are doing it on your iPhone (or on an iPad or iPod Touch) then you could try tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and selecting 'View Apple ID' on the popup.

how can i fix "the sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported " after restoring a factory unlocked iphone 4

The term "factory unlocked" has no meaning. Your phone was not legitimately unlocked. Contact the carrier it is locked to and find out if you can get it unlocked.

If you were not there, how would you see the led?
Anyway missed calls will appear on your Lock screen under the Missed tab.
Or a small red numbered badge will appear on the Phone App icon when you have missed calls. You can then access the Recents Tab in the Phone App to see whcih calls were missed.
Missed Calls are shown in red there

  • How do I acces the Airport card on a new iBook 12"?

I have a 1.33Ghz 12" iBook G4. (The latest model.) Since the previous version Apple have changed the location of the AirPort Extreme card.
Previously it sat on top of the RAM slot. Adding RAM required the AirPort card to be removed. Now the RAM slot is accessible in its own covered slot in a similar location as before but the AirPort card is nowhere to be seen.
Any idea how I can access it?

I discovered that searching elsewhere since posting my question. It's a board rather than a card apparantly, like the Mac Mini.
I'd still like to know where it lurks though and how to get at it. I have a strong suspicion that it's playing up in my iBook. I've read various reports of incorrectly seated Airport cards causing kernel panics. I've spent the day working out that I have a very serious Airport problem. I have a sneaky suspicion that it's a badly connected or malfunctioning card/board.

  • How do I know my airport express is working and doing what I want?

I have my airport express connected to the lan in my office at the far end of my house.  The LAN runs to the wifi router supplied by my internet provider.  I want the airport express to give me a better signal in the far reaches of my house.  In the airport utlity I did the set up of the Base station and wireless screens and in the network screen have the Router Mode set as Off (Bridge Mode) - my airport express shows a nice green light.  So far so good, I hope.  However, when using my ipad or Macbook wirelessly I don't seem to get any better signal than when I didn't have the airport express.  How does either of my devices choose to connect though my airport express rather than my wifi router and how do I know?  Have I misunderstood something completely or not configured something correctly?
    Thanks in advance.
    Richard

I have my airport express connected to the lan in my office at the far end of my house.  The LAN runs to the wifi router supplied by my internet provider.
So, the AirPort Express is connected back to the ISP router using a wired Ethernet cable connection, correct?
and....the AirPort Express has been configured to "create a wireless network" (not "extend a wireless network") and use the exact same wireless network name, wireless security and password as the ISP router, correct?
Most users get the name of the network and password correct, but often miss the wireless security setting. If the wireless security settings on both routers do not match up exactly, you wind up with two networks, and not one "big" network like you probably want.
and...the AirPort Express is configured to operate in Bridge Mode, correct?
If you can confirm these settings....especially the settings for "create a wireless network" and wireless security....then we are ready to do the next test. Please post back on your progress.
