How do I know if my contract is being bought out?

There are some people in my area who have been receiving mail stating their contract is being bought out by AT&T. I have not received any correspondence regarding this. However, when I am on the Verizon wireless website it directs my to a page stating the area I am in is transitioning to AT&T. How do I know if I am affected by this. I am considering upgrading my phone, but don't want to if I am going to be bought out. Any help would be great.

Most of those people should have been/will be transitioned. It is dependent on your billing address and/or phone number. Where are you located at?
Only certain areas of Nebraska, Michigan, and Minnesota had Verizon customer accounts and towers sold to AT & T as part of the requirements of the FCC approval for the Alltel/Verizon merger.

How can I know the size of a JViewport laid out in BorderLayout.CENTER?

I have a JPanel inside a JScrollPane. The scroll pane is laid out inside of BorderLayout.CENTER. I need to know the size of the JViewport to do stuff like centering and zooming.
Where can I find the size? All these methods return 0 values for X and Y:

Yes, even the scrollbars won't give me any values! It's all because of the BorderLayout!

Sounds like you are accessing the sizes before the views are realized (that is before a call to frame.pack()/show()) They are available only after the layoutManager had a go on it. What is available earlier are preferred/min/max, though.

My service since June 2nd has been almost obsolete at work and home. I was told August 15th I could get out of my contract how do I know that is true ?

Something happened in my area on June 2nd and my service has not been the same. I called and complained that week and was never contacted back.I can not use my phone in most areas of the building I work in and can not use it in my bedroom at home. I signed my 2 year contract for the first phone April was a year ago and the second phone November will be a year. My daughter has started school and I hate not being able to contact her and vise versa. I was told August 15th which is the end of my billing cycle that I could get out of my contract. This was told to me over the phone I have all the information , but my concern is how do I know this is true. I can't end it until my daughter comes home so we can do some sort of switch over. I paid for the 2 phones and now have to reinvest in more phones and I don't think that is fair either. I live in an area where we still have Alltel and it is being bought out by at&t. If I switch I don't know what my service will be like and sure don't want to sign another contract with out knowing if it will work either. If I wait and Verizon puts a ding on my credit what will I be able to do that won't cost me a fortune on prepaid cell phone purchases ?

Best coverage is really subjective based on your location. For example, Verizon is the best in my area, but 20 miles up the road, a local carrier is better.
There was a law recently passed that requires Verizon to unlock a phone when it's out of contract. I'm not sure whether that includes a contract that was terminated.
The ETF is signed on a per line/per phone basis. If you open another line, you're simply going to add to your headache. They typically don't budge on the ETF.
In a sense, you are blaming Verizon for the high cost of cellular devices. They offered insurance when you signed up, and apparently chose not to accept it. That makes you responsible for replacing your device, if you choose to.
Lastly, the FCC has already addressed the ETF issue. It used to be a base ETF no matter how far you were into your contract. Now, you can reduce your $350 ETF by $10 for each completed month. The FCC isn't going to consider another ETF complaint.
I agree, Verizon has really taken a step down when it comes to customer service. That said, I don't feel this is a customer service issue. You chose not to insure your device without doing the research on the actual cost of a device, first.

Since I upgraded to the latest version of IOS, is worse. The wi-fi does not work anymore, 3G network makes it even more hard to get, some apps that should work, close or take a long time to load, even the screen to make phone calls has long recharge times. Do you have suggestions? Thank you!

The iCloud calendar works for many people, why not explain what is not 'working' on your setup?

Check under general app-general-about then look under carrier and see what network it has set on it because some networks I know unlock their phones but to my knowledge iPhones the majority bought through carriers are usually locked.

No upgrade order confirmation received or a receipt shown in my account, except for retail installement plan contract. How do I know my order was processed since the 25th of September?

The device installment plan says I start paying in November... but how do I know the More plan with Verizon Edge was processed with my iphone upgrade. I never received email confirmation or receipt of my order--anywhere. It's been a couple of weeks. Please help!

I had a contract with vodafone and I am trying to move to a sim only contract with Virgin. Vodafone say they have unlocked the phone but Virgin say the phone is still locked. How do I know the truth. If the phone is locked how do I get it unlocked. The phone is an iphone 4 and the error message reads 'Restricted Network, Your selected mobile network is restricted. You can choose a different network in settings'

I really do understand your frustration being caught in this loop...but Apple will not help since they consider this a carrier issue and not an Apple issue.
If you contact Vodaphone again, press for access to someone higher in the organization to talk with. Vodaphone isn't in the US so I am not familiar with how they operate, but if there is a physical store, you might try going there and talk with a real, live human being and see if you can get help. It certainly sounds as though the problem is with Vodaphone and how they unlocked/or didn't, the iPhone.
I too am at a loss except to say keep after Vodaphone as Apple is not going to get involved.
We are all fellow users on here and not Apple employees so often have the same frustrations the people we are trying to help have.

Sorry for what's probably a dumb question, but I can't find an answer anywhere.
I have an AT&T iPhone 4S, and I recently called them to request an unlock. Since it was on a business account while under contract, they had to submit a request directly to Apple instead of just using the web form. However, they told me that they never received anything from Apple during the process that would indicate that I'll be notified once the request has been approved. So from my understanding, completing the process on my end involves tethering to iTunes and restoring the phone - but how will I know when it's actually time for me to do that?
I should add: I am no longer with AT&T, or in touch with anyone else who is still on the account that I had been part of. So if anyone else on that old account gets notified, I won't know. And since I'm not with AT&T myself, I feel doubtful that they'd let me know.

but the phone message says below.
This iPhone is not currently setup to work with carrier you're attempting to use. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked.
so my question is how do I know whether my phone is unlocked one or not, before I go and try get new SIM card.

If your phone will not work with another sim card, then it is likely to be locked to the original carrier.
The only way to get your phone unlocked is to contact that phone company/carrier that the phone is locked to and hope that they offer unlocking. Apple cannot unlock a phone for you, only the phone company that your phone is locked to can do that. Some offer unlocking and some don't, so if the phone company does not offer unlocking, then you are out of luck and you'll either have to buy a new phone or use a sim card of the comapny - take out a contract with the compnay that the phone is locked to.
Anyway - contact Apple to see whether your phone is locked conclusively and if you talk to them they can tell you what they need.
