How do I know if my system is compatible with mac os?

So I want to change over to mac but I am not sure if my hardware is compatible.
Is there somewhere I can go to look or a program to run that will check my system?

The system and graphic cards have to have EFI ROMs and even PCI cards have to be Mac compatible firmware or chipsets. Even memory has to have SPD code that is usually different (DDR3 may be less so now).
There is no utility similar to the Vista or Windows 7 for checking for compatibility.
The Mac OS is licensed only for Apple hardware.

How do i know if my itunes is compatible with windows 64 bit?

Did you download the 64-bit installer?
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT) as you start iTunes, then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

how do i update my mac software and how do I know which operating system I am on

    1. Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu to check the installed version.
    2. Incremental updates are available in the Software Update pane of System Preferences or the Mac App Store's Updates tab. The source for full version upgrades varies; 10.6 through 10.8 are in the online Apple Store, and 10.9 is in the Mac App Store.

  • How can I find a printer that is compatible with my ox 10.4.11 operating system

    Helllo,
I have several questions but my most current one is how can I find a printer that is compatible with my current operating system?

Brother is good about supporting older Mac OS versions. We have their HL5250DN b/w laser that supports all the post-1997 Macs in the house, including a 1998 vintage Beige G3 minitower running OS 10.3.9. There is also a driver with OS9 support on the Brother web site.
The bigger problem, based on posts I see in these forums, is not a printer failing to support an older OS but one not supporting a new Mac OS. There are numerous posts after a big OS version change (like the intro of Lion) where people run out and buy whatever printer looks cute/sounds good without researching whether the device supports the new OS yet. Printer makers are often not good about having updated drivers developed by the time Apple rolls out a new OS.

  • How do you repair the EFI systems partitions when you mac tells you that the live file system is not supported?

how do you repair the EFI systems partitions when you mac tells you that the live file system is not supported?

I don't have good news. You will need to repartition and reformat the hard drive in order to determine if the drive is still OK or if it needs to be replaced. If your computer is a 2011 model or later do the following:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
If your computer is pre-2011 model, then locate the original installer discs that came with the computer. Then do this:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. You can now download a version of OS X from which to upgrade from your Purchases page in the App Store.

  • Is Photoshop 6.0 compatible with Mac OS Mavericks or Yosemite and if yes, how do I install?

is Photoshop 6.0 compatible with Mac OS Mavericks or Yosemite and if yes, how do I install?

Well, probably not what you wanted to hear, but if you come across an older Mac, you should be able to use your old copy.
These are the old system requirements.  You want CS6 or better for today's Intel/OSX Macs.
    • PowerPC® processor
    • Mac OS software version 8.5, 8.6,or 9.0
    • 64 MB of RAM* (with Virtual Memory on)
    • 125 MB of available hard-disk space (after install)
    • Color monitor with 256-color (8-bit) or greater video card
    • 800x600 or greater monitor resolution
    • CD-ROM drive
And thanks for reporting back, at least I know what happened even if it didn't fix things.

  • How do you get palm tx to be compatible with rhapsody?

Does anyone know how to get a palm tx to be compatible with rhapsody.  The origanal install disk has rhapsody, but when I try to install, I get a message that it is expired.  I use rhapsody with an mp3 player at the moment, but would also like to be able to use it to put music on my tx.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Easiest way to move mp3's to a Palm device is with a cheap USB card reader.  Just connect it to your computer and drag and drop the mp3's into the /AUDIO folder.
