How do I know my downloaded Flash 10.0 is genuine?

Hello,
I use a Mac with OS X 10.6 and was using a site which required me to downgrade my Flash to 10.0, which I searched for and found at:
http://www.softfreedownload.org/adobe-flash-player-10-for-mac/
I then went to check which version I had installed, from this site, and it could not identify the version I was using:
http://www.whatismyflashplayerversion.com/
Adobe site just tells me there is a newer version available, which I know.
My question is --  How do I know I havent downloaded a virus or some other bad file?
Thanks,
Tokyo

Hi, well you should always only use Adobe sites for Uninstalling and Installing any Adobe product. You can go to the location of where your Flash files are Installed and right click on one of the files and click on Properties and read the tabs. There is info there that would identify Adobe, version, etc.
This test site at Adobe will tell you also what version of Flash Player you have Installed:
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
Regarding your last question, there is no way to know that I am aware of. Running a full scan with your Anti-Virus/Spyware programs would be a good idea.

  • How should I know if download was real?

How should I know if the download I agreed to this morning was ligitimate? The message said version 10 with a 2 or something. But I see no changes in anything now. I am currently running version 9 (apparently). I find it annoying when asked and just went ahead and said YES (please go away). Clues?

There is only an Adobe Reader 9 icon on the desktop, and there is only a version 9 program in my programs files. Like I said, no evidence of version 10. What downloaded did have numbers something like 10.0.2  There is an icon in the program files that reads after clicking that a version of  Adobe AIR is needed and not there. Again, everything is working fine otherwise. It's just that I did not ask for this at any time in the past, so I kinda resent Adobe having a program that pops up uncontrolled and unexpectedly, downloads something upon my clicking yes, and then disappears. Again, I'm not a computer-guy; everyone needs Reader for basic downloading of documents, but I'd prefer leaving it up to me and when I can't download documents any more, then I'd do something (an appropriate time for something to invite me to update). So when I'm invited (and not even on line) and I do something and get nothing, I just get slightly concerned. I should have kept responding "no" forever or until my version 9 stopped working. But in reality, if something toxic had gotten that far into my computer, would it have asked me to download something (with an Adobe face), or would it just go ahead and continue "infecting"? Thanks for your feedback. Anyone else know about these uninvited opportunities to update?

  • How to direct user to download Flash 9

I just finished making a game. But Somone was trying it out
and they received this error message...
"Alternate HTML content should be placed here. This content
requires the Adobe Flash Player.Get Flash"
They didn't have Flash 9 and thus couldn't run the AS3 game.
However, since they already had the Flash Player, they didn't think
they needed to download the Flash Player again. Is there a pre-made
javascript that can be used to tell people they need to upgrade to
Flash 9 and then give them a link? I'm fairly new to ActionScript
programming. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And if you have
any feedback on the game, I'd love to hear it.
    Here's the game link:
    http://www.wooingskills.com/WooingSkillsTrivia.html

Yes, that's probably the message in my original post. The
only problem is that it doesn't explain that the user has the wrong
version. The guy who tried it thought something was wrong with my
program because he already had Flash. But he didn't have Flash 9.
So is there a way to modify the html that Flash publishes so that
it indicates the version is the problem?

  • Given a SWF file, how would I know on what Flash IDE has it been compiled?

    Hi guys,
I have a series of modules developed  overtime and so some of them are AS1, AS2 and AS3. Some where compiled  using FlashMX, 8, CS3, etc.
Sometimes it would be very beneficial for me if I could know with what version of the Flash IDE it  was compiled and targeting what platform.
Is this  possible? Perhaps using some decompiler? Perhaps opening the SWF on a  text editor and looking for some string that tells this details?
Thanks  for any comment or link you may post.
    regards,
    Miguel.

a decompiler would let you see what version of actionscript was used and what flash player was targeted (among other things).

  • HT1338 I have an Mac OS X version 10.4.11, how do I know which download 10.5 is what I need?

I Have a Mac OS X version 10.4.11. I 've needed to upgrade my software for my IPhone 4S and it says that I require Mac OS X 10.5. but I don't know which one to download. If there is anyone who can help I would grateful appreciate it.

You cannot download Leopard. You may be able to purchase a retail copy on eBay or Amazon.com. You can upgrade to Snow Leopard instead for $30.00.
If you need to purchase Snow Leopard you can still purchase a copy from Apple's online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.] Ask for a Sales Representative.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
Be sure your computer meets these requirements:
    Snow Leopard General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

  • How do I know the download is from a secure source and viral free?

When ever I begin to download FF 5.0.1 I get a warning stating the source is UNKNOWN. Each time, the souce is listed under DIFFERENT name which does not appear to be coming from mozilla such as:
    mozilla.cdn.leaseweb.com
    mozilla.mirror.ac.za
    mozilla.snt.utwente.nl
    ftp.jaist.ac.jp
    mozilla.c3sl.ufpr.br
One time, the down load window triggered the McAfee site advisor to inform me that there was a lot of problems with the particular site that was providing the download.
And finally, last week, just shortly after downloading Firefox, my computer became infected with a virus that eventually corrupted the operating system to the point that I had to replace the hard drive!
So, I hope you understand why I might seem a little reluctant to download FF again without being assured that the downloads are secure and viral free.

Mozilla has download mirror websites around the globe. Many are universities or major hosting facilities that support the open source software movement. <br />
    http://www.mozilla.org/mirrors.html
You can feel safe using any of the hyperlinks on that page, if you are not comfortable with Mozilla selecting the mirror server for you.

  • How does one know if Flash is legitimate?

This is mainly a paranoid question, but how do I know if a Flash installer is legitimate?
When I opened Safari today, I got prompted to update Flash. However, the window prompting the Flash update could have been launched from some open browser tab in Safari or another browser, couldn't it? So when I look at the window that prompts me to upgrade, what could I use as a sign to tell that this is a valid legitimate request to update?
As I am paranoid, I cancelled the update process and went to adobe.com and downloaded the update from there. In that way I at least know the origin of the file. However, surely that should not be necessary. Surely there is a way to recognise a legitimate update prompt?

Only EVER download Flash Player from Adobe's own website.
Two bugs, one affecting Apple's Mac platform and another attacking Microsoft's Windows, exploit certain Flash player vulnerabilities to install malware onto users' systems, reports ArsTechnica. While users of other operating systems like Linux have yet to report attacks, Adobe's advisory notes the exploit affects all platforms.
Designated as CVE-2013-0634, the first vulnerability targets the Safari and Firefox Web browsers running on OS X, and is also being used as a trojan to deploy Microsoft Word documents containing malware. For Mac users, the flaw affects Adobe Flash Player version 11.5.502.146 or earlier.
The Adobe Flash patch can be found on the company's website, and users can visit this page to check if their software is the most curent 11.5.502.149 version.

    Hi mansons67992701,
No purchase is required to install Flash Player.  The offer you're seeing is optional.  There should be a yellow 'Install Now' button on the bottom right of the page. Is the button not displaying?  Please post a screenshot of the page (How to post a screenshot in the forum).

You need 4.93 GB of available space. I cannot download OS X Mavericks for I obtain the following answer: Remove items from your startup disk to increase available space. How do I know what items I should remove in order to make more space available? Thanks.

You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
Other things you can do to gain space.
Once you have around 15 GBs regained, do a search, download and install OmniDisk Sweeper.
This app will help you locate files that you can move/archive and/or delete from your system.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

Hi, Now after you download it, you need to Install it. Did you do that?
If you are using Safari, go to this test site and let me know if you can see the Flash Player logo(Red F) animation(spin)
What version if any of Flash Player is displayed? http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
The Flash Player Installer also Installs a Shockwave Flash plugin into the browser. Is that there and Enabled?
Finally, this Troubleshooting Guide for Mac may help you.
