How do I know which MacBook is right for me?

Hi,
I'm new to Mac thinking and I'm unsure what to buy, HELP,Please.
The time I spent on my computer is mostly internet. I'm not sure if I want a DVD burner or just the basic mac. Maybe you know some questions you can ask me to help.
Thanks,

MacBooks are complex mechanical and electronic devices. Although Apple tries to have high standards, a few "bad apples" are going to squeak through. Apple hasn't released specific numbers, but it's entirely possible they've shipped nearly 2,000,000 MacBooks in the last year. I would not call four people posting here a problem with MacBooks falling apart.
Remember that the Apple Discussions is specifically for people who are having problems. You're not going to see any posts here from the 1,999,996 other MacBook owners who didn't have a problem. So don't think that the troubles you read here are indications that everyone with a MacBook is having a problem.
It's also likely that Apple is selling quite a few more white MacBooks than black MacBooks. So, even if twice as many people with white MacBooks are posting trouble here, that doesn't mean the same problem is less likely with a black MacBook. It means there's just fewer of them to begin with.
Stating that there is a problem with white MacBooks falling apart is misinformation.

  • How Do I Decide Which MacBook is Right For Me?

I am currently a high school senior and I have always had my heart set on a MacBook and my oldest sister has offered to buy me one for my graduation present.
My only problem is I am not too sure which one is the best for me. I know MacBooks in general, regaurdless of model, are all great quality, but I really want something that I can keep around for a few years to get me through whatever schooling I choose to go through and still have with me after. I am also a beauty blogger so I do a lot of typing and use the internet as if it were an extension of my body. I also upload lots of product photos from my camera to use on my blog and occasional editing is needed, but nothing to the extent that I have to use Photoshop or other advanced programs, only minor editing basics are used.
I know that I do want something fast for web surfing and something with enough room to store all of my music, pictures, and programs comfortably without an external hard drive. Portablitity is also a key feature, but I feel like both the Air and the Pro seem portable enough for my purposes, so it is still a toss-up. A cd/dvd drive would be a nice feature, but I am not too sure how often I would actually use it as I tend to store my music on my iPod and phone as opposed to on CDs. I also don't feel the need for a huge screen since I do want it to be portable, I have been looking into the 11in - 13in range.
Right now I am currently comparing the 13in. 2.5GHz MacBook Pro, 13in. MacBook Air, and the 11in. 1.7GHz MacBook Air. Even though this is coming as a gift to me, I still want to get the most bang for the buck, but if it sounds like I only need 64GB of storage, then I would have no problem going with the $999.00 MacBook Air.
But in the grande scheem of things, I just don't understand how much storage and speed would be best for me based on my usage.
Any suggestions on what model you think would fit me the best?

They pretty much explain themselves. The MacBook Air is for those who want a portable yet powerful Mac, where as the MacBook Pro is for those who want more power than the MacBook Air for gaming and photo editing and reliablity as they can last for plenty of years with good treatment, the one thing they lack is portability.
For just a blogger and student, a MacBook Air 13inch would be best as it's just the right size and power. As a blogger you'll need to take it where ever you go and I'm sure you're not going to use it for heavy impact gaming and large photo editing or video editing. If you are, then get the MacBook Pro.

Hi. I'd like to delete the Snow Leopard Snapshots in my Time Machine backup drive because it won't work with Lion
I'm not sure what you mean . . . what won't work with Lion?  It sounds like it did do some backups.
Is there a way or an app to know which are Lion snapshots?
There is a way, but it's rather cumbersome.  You have to start selecting a full system restore; there's a window showing all of the backups and the version of OSX.
Is there an app I could use to manage the snapshots if manually deleting them will cause problems and side effects later.
It's best to use the Time Machine "Star Wars" display to delete backups, but you really shouldn't have to.  Let's figure out what's wrong first.

  • How do I know which adapter to choose for my MacBook 4.1?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook 4.1 and need an adapter. I know I need an L-shaped one, but there seems to be all sorts of Wattages out there. Which one's the right one?
Thanks a lot for your help!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You have an Early or Late 2008 MacBook, that uses a T-shaped MagSafe. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2346
In your case, you can buy this power adapter > http://www.amazon.com/Apple-60W-Power-Adapter-MacBook/dp/B000FQ245I/ref=sr_1_5?s =electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1364162769&sr=1-5&keywords=T-shaped+magsafe

  • How do I know which update to use for camera raw?

I just bought a Canon 700D (T5i) and my CS5 does not recognize the RAW files. Looking at all the updates is very confusing as to just which one I need. Could someone help guide me to the correct update?

Yes, it is very confusing.  No question about that.
Always use the highest version that will work with your version of Photoshop.  In your case (CS5.x) that is ACR 6.7.
It helps to remember that once a given camera model is supported in a given version of ACR, it will continue to be supported in all subsequent versions.
In addition to support for newer cameras, each new version of Camera Raw has unannounced, unheralded bug fixes and improvements.  So just use the highest version that will work with your version of Photoshop, as stated above.  In the case of your version of Photoshop that is ACR 6.7.
But, your camera may not be supported at all yet, and you'll have to convert your Canon raw files to raw DNG files with the free DNG Converter once said converter supports your camera.

  • Using the RFC adapter (sender), how do I know which RFC is being sent?

    Hello everyone!
Has anyone used the RFC adapter (sender) in XI to pick up RFC messages? How would I know which RFC is triggered for example when a user creates a PO (purchase order)?
    Warm Regards,
    Glenn

    Glenn,
When u are writinfg RFC program, u will have destination right?  There u know u have to give RFC Destination(SM59) while creating RFC destination we will be giving Program ID .
Similarly in XI while creating Sender RFC u have to give the program id. So with these program id these programs are linked together and triggered from R/3 to the exact Sender adapter.
Please see Michal weblog for more details

To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application Carbon Copy Cloner. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.bombich.com/index.html You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then format and partition the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one and put your old one in the external case.

  • How do I know which ssd is compatible with my MacBook Pro..

My MacBook Pro would not boot up. Took it to the Genius Bar and found out that I need a new hard drive.  I want to replace it with a Solid State drive, but how do I know which one is compatible with my particular machine?
    <Personal Information Edited by Host>

On a late 2008 MBP, you want an SSD that can handle Sata 1/2/3 so it can be used in this machine, and can be migrated all the way to a 2012 SATA machine. Machines later than 2012 primarily use PCIe flash and are not considered user-replacable.
I have used a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB in a 2008 MBP. You can look at Crucial, OWC, Intel, Samsung brands.
