How do I learn?

Good morning all,
I am relatively new to creating interactive forms in Adobe. While I have been able to learn basic stuff on my own and with help from these forums, I want to learn how to create the JavaScript programming it takes for complicated forms. All of the books I see relate JavaScript to web pages. It appears to me that the JavaScript used in web pages is different than what Adobe uses. Is this correct? I cannot find any resources that relate learning JavaScript to Adobe interactive forms. I tried to enroll in a "certified" class offered by a vendor, but the class was repeatedly cancelled and never came to fruition.
So the question is: How do I learn this stuff?
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!!!
thanks

Hi,
My tuppence (two cents) worth...
Outside of the general recommendation, I would strongly recommend JP Terry's book on LC Designer which is excellent - "Creating Dynamic Forms with Adobe LiveCycle Designer". This starts at the beginning and clearly sets out key learning points. By the end there are some good examples, which you can copy across.
Where is some reference material for this?
We have some solutions and blog posts on our website http://www.assuredynamics.com.
There is also a range of online resources. You may find these resources helpful:
http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_lc_scriptingBasics
http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_lc_scriptingReference
http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_lc_formCalc
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/articles/Adobe_XML_Form_Object_M odel_Refer ence.pdf
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/lc_migrating_acrobat_xmlform. pdf
And a very handy resource (and while it is for version 6 it is still very good because of the way it is laid out):http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/tips/CalcScripts.pdf
The help file also helps with syntax and LC Designer comes with templates/examples.
Lastly, check out the Developer's Network on http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/
Also a book that doesn't deal with scripting at all but is very good on form layout is "Forms that Work" by Caroline Jarrett and Gerry Gaffney.
The Adobe "PDF Forms Bible" is okay, but mainly focuses on AcroForms.
Windjack Solutions have a subscription based service for solutions and scripts at http://www.pdfscripting.com. It has a lot of AcroForm script that can be amended to suit LC Designer and a growing library of LC Designer solutions.
Good luck,
Niall

  • How can I learn where a missing class resides?

I'm going thru a tutorial that autogenerates a few small Java source files in a small project. They SHOULD compile without error, but don't, apparently because various classes are referenced and are not present on my PC.
How can I learn where they are? How can I get the needed classes, and can I trust the files I find, assuming I find them out on the web somewhere.
The message of the moment (produced by NetBeans 4.1) is:
    "class com.sun.xml.rpc.tools.ant.Wscompile cannot be found"
I plugged that classname into Google, and found someone wonder in a forum where this class is, then reply to his own question saying he found it in jaxrpc-impl.jar
Maybe that's right. Now I have to find this Jar file.
Hopefully there's a better way to find this stuff!
    Any advice appreciated.

    That's how you do it.
In this case, I believe that the jar is part of the JAX_RPC functionality (recently renamed to JAX_WS), and a copy is included with Sun's Application Server - and also other downloadable packages, but I don't know exactly which others.
The class is part of the umbrella J2EE system.

I would suggest to go for You tube videos (type learn SSIS or begin SSIS step by step) you will get lot of good tutorials to start with.

  • How did YOU learn Java?

Ok, two part question and a bunch of help for this Java newbie:
    1. How did you learn Java? Online tutorials, books, discussions, a game, or a class? Be specific and think back to when you looked at a Java program and went "wtf?"
    2. How do you keep up the new versions and therefore, useless older classes? I am reading the list on JDK 1.4 and just thinking, how could I remember all of this? If I'm used to programming one way, how can I relearn for every version?
If I could just get some honest answers and opinions, it'd be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

    Get this:
I originally 'learned' Java from "Java Made Simple" by Peter McBride. "Made Simple" is right: having finished this book, I had no idea that you could design your own classes for use by other classes! All my methods were static, I'd never written a constructor or instantiated one of my own classes, and my applications were all contained in a single class! I had only the vaguest notion of what "object oriented" meant, and I wondered why, for example, you had to say
    Integer x = new Integer(4);
    but not
    int x = new int(4);
The book was intended, I think, for non-programmers who have been given some free space by their ISP to design a web page, and want to add some v. simple applets for decoration. Beware of books like this if you want to learn Java in a serious way.
For a more positive tip, I recommend Sun's very own online Java Tutorial. It covers all the key topics thoroughly and clearly, so at the end you have a good understanding of Java (More than just the basics, I'd say). If you want to move on to more advanced topics this tutorial will probably stand you in good stead (I can't be certain as I haven't moved on from here yet myself), but if you don't you will still be able to write good amateur programs.

  • How to start learning Weblogic Administration

    Hi,
I am working as an oracle DBA. I want to start learning Weblogic Administration and troubleshooting too. I am a newbie and for exposure I have installed Weblogic on my laptop.
I want you to guide me how to proceed learning and getting expertise considering I'm a newbie.
Any online tutorial? Any good book?
    Regards,

This (http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=7265) presents a step-by-step example that introduces a lot of different aspects for WebLogic Server.
The links in the post provide extra information in the context of a particular subject.
An other option is to follow some course (http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getCourseDesc?dc=D58682GC20&p_org_id=1001&lang=US)

How can I learn to use my new Mac (I am a long time user of Windows), without having to go to Apple Store. Ours is 50 mi. away. Is there such a remote service? (Apple's or otherwise)

If you enjoy learning by reading, here's an excellent book in my opinion:
Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual, Mountain Lion Edition
The author, David Pogue, is the New York Times technical writer.  He is, in my opinion, an excellent author.  This book is accurate and complete.
I have no financial interest in the author, publisher, or Amazon (the link points there).  But I did use a previous version of this book when I started with Macs and am a satisfied customer.

I'm very new to OA Framework, and I have read through most of the threads in this forum and skimmed through the development guide, but I still have a few questions.
    1) Where can I download Jdeveloper 10g with OA externsions? It seems Jdeveloper can be downloaded from Metalink, but I don't know how to sign up for it. Can I download Jdeveloper 10g with OA externsions without having Metalink access?
    2) Is a database required to learn and develop OAF components? One of the steps for setting up Jdeveloper obtain a dbc file. I don't know were to obtain a dbc file nor do I have a database to work with.

    HusseinHi Hussein,
Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, I don't have a CSI number or a DBA to turn to. I'm a college student, and I'm not working for an IT company. Hence I lack a lot of resources. I made this thread to see if I am wasting my time learning OAF because I can't acquire the necessary resources (db and jdeveloper).

  • How to start learning German?

I love Arch.  Absolutely love it.  But with the announcement of April 1 regarding the transition to German, I was wondering if there are any books available that will help me learn this fine lanaguage and continue using this excellent distro?
Hopefully, I would like a German version of  the edutainment game "Reader Rabbit" to begin the basics; preferably open-source, but if I must I'll get wine working if I really have to!
    Thanks, Archers!
    Gute Nacht!

If you are actually serious about learning German: First of all make sure, that you have an ongoing motivation to learn the language. If that's missing, you'll probably give up frustrated after some weeks, because learning a language can be frustrating.
Then get yourself a dictionary and a course book with many demonstrative explanations for the grammar. Start by learning the basics: nouns, articles, verbs and the basic sentence structure S-V-O (subject-verb-object). Try to find a German-speaking friend and try to practise your knowledge, even if you can only say simple things like "Ich spreche Deutsch.", "Der Mond ist rund." or a little more complicated: "Heute ist der erste April."
Also start to read as much as you can. Learning vocabularly is no fun, but it's easier if you remember vocabulary from the context, because you see that a word is important and not only word of many in a vocabulary list.
Now expand your knowledge slowly by learning more, reading more and practicing your new knowledge as often as possible and try not to get frustrated once you encounter the more challenging parts of the German language.
Also consider a stay in a German-speaking country once you have basic knowledge. You'll be amazed how fast you learn when you're in contact with native speakers - just don't get frustrated.
    Good luck!
Funny thing is that I started looking for resources to learn German this morning.
I studied it at school for 5 years (over 30 years ago) and although I can read German pretty well, albeit with a limited vocabulary, I have never spoken it since.
My daughter is moving to Bonn in May and I plan to visit her in September / October so I want to have some proficiency by then.
At the moment I am sure my grammar would be like the Englishman in Allo Allo.

  • How do we learn more about expert in OWB 10g?

How do we learn more about expert in OWB 10g?
We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.1.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.1.31. The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.3.0). OWB is installed on Linux.
I reviewed user guide. It have little info on expert of OWB 10g.
I like to know/learn more about it.
Do we have cookbook type of docs?
How did our forum members learn about owb 10g expert?
    Thanks in advance.
    RI

Here are various bits and pieces that should get you started, I'll see if there is a cookbook, I know we have an internal one.
    There is an introduction paper here;
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/pdf/Oracle%20Warehouse%20Builder%2010gR2%20What%20is%20an%20Expert.pdf
    There are examples on the utility exchange, probably a reasonable one that uses the built in components is the data mover expert;
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/Experts/datamover.zip
There are other interesting examples, such as the create dimension from expert that helps building a dimensional structure and maps. For this one I added simple java procedures for a shuttle dialog and a data entry table that allow different information to be captured.
    See the create dimension from expert here;
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/Experts/datamover.zip
Another example on accelerating map construction is the SQL to map accelerator which uses the OWB custom dialog to get information, and can be found at the blog post http://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/newsItems/viewFullItem$198
You can edit these experts and see the code, the data mover expert has much less code and just glues together pieces of the OWB UI components into a task list that is more specific for the user. The create dimension expert is much more tcl oriented but really simplifies the task at hand.
    Cheers
