How do I limit bandwidth on a particular device?

I want to know how I can manually limit the Kbps for a particular devince in the QOS.
I DO NOT want to simply set the priority (low/med/high). I want to "physically" limit a device.
When I select to do it manually (upstream bandwidth) it limits ALL devices and I do not want this.
I want to limit the bandwidth on only one device that is connected (ie an Xbox)
I have a Linksys E4200 V2
Thanks in advance.

In your case could you please let me know whether your X-Box is connected wired or wireless to the router? Try to set the upstream bandwidth with the desired value and select 'MAC address' under the heading 'category', put the MAC address (depending upon how the x-box is connected to the router) in the space provided keeping priority as high.
its wired.
upstream bandwidth affects ALL devices, as I previously stated. its useless to me.
I agree with Jake_2.0, the router don't have that capability.
Yes that was already stated.  Please do not duplicate answers.

  • How to tell Facetime to contact a particular device?

I have Facetime on my iMac (27 inch with built-in camera, running OS 10.7.3).
If I try to use Facetime with my wife on her iPhone (where her number has a blue star by it), it connects and works fine.  However, if I try to use Facetime to talk with with her through her new MacBook Pro (using her email address as the contact), Facetime reverts back to the phone number and calls her iPhone.
How can I force Facetime to contact her Macbook instead of her iPhone?

OK, I think I figured this out by myself.  The short answer is that you cannot specify a particular device, unless you set up Facetime (or iMessage) only for that device.  If you have multiple devices with the same Apple ID, they all respond to an incoming iMessage or Facetime call.
In my case, I've set up my iPhone, iPad, and Macs to use Facetime and iMessage with the same Apple ID.  When someone wants to do a Facetime call with me, or send me an iMessage, all the devices respond simultaneously.  It's kinda funny to hear the Phone, iPad, and iMac going off, telling me I have an iMessage, or asking me to accept a Facetime call.  From there, I simply choose whatever device I want to use.
I would add that with iMessage, the way I have my gear set up, all the messages are synced, meaning I can be doing an iMessage chat on my iPad, stop for a while, and pick it up again on my iPhone -- the same message string will be in the Message app (synced by iCloud I assume).  Anyway, it's kinda neat.

  • How to determine the bandwidth of a particular frequency in Labview?

    Hallo,
After i determined the frequency of a signal, i want to measure the bandwidth of this frequency. how can i do that in labview? is there a block which can calculate it directly?
    thanks in advance..

If I remember correctly, the BANDWIDTH is defined as the frequency distance between the -3dB points, relative to the peak.
It's not correct to say "the bandwidth of a frequency", you measure the bandwidth of some process, say an amplifier or a filter.
If you have a spectrum sweep of this filter, then you just measure the peak amplitude and look on both sides for the places where it crosses the 3dB down amplitudes.  The difference between those frequencies is your bandwidth.
If it's a narrow bandwidth, you'll have to pay attention to how FFT works or you won't get a good answer from an FFT.  If your FFT frequency resolution is low, your precision will be low as well.
I don't think there are any canned solutions for you.

  • How can I limit connection time of a device with Time Capsule?

I would like to limit the time certain members of my family can use their devices during the week.  While the built in parental controls on Apple OS are ok, I am now faced with multiple devices (eg, iPod, MacBook, non Apple devices, etc), and it seems like the easiest way to manage connection time would be through the router - eg, via the MAC address and some time allocation per calendar day.
Is there any way to achieve this with Time Capsule?  Failing that, any other ideas are welcomed.

  • How do I limit which bookmarks sync between devices?

I use firefox on my home, personal laptop and work desktop with Sync, all running Firefox 29. Is there a way I can stop some bookmarks from syncing? I like having the same tools and resources (all my metasearch tools, open source intelligence links, news sites, etc.) readily available but I don't want my personal email account, financial/banking, or other sites to sync to my work desktop or going through my employer's server.

Sorry, synchronizing bookmarks is all or nothing. No way to select individual folders or separate bookmarks to Sync or to not Sync.
The best suggestion I can offer is separate user Profiles and separate Sync accounts, which is something that I have done in the past. <br />
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data
I had a Profile set up on my desktop that was basically the same on my laptop, and I has Sync setup in those Profiles. I used that laptop for on-site job reporting via in-store WiFi, and some "surfing" via a Bluetooth connection thru my phone if I had "time to kill" before leaving for the next job that day. I never did online banking in those Profiles, but used a different Profile for banking on my desktop at home. When that laptop was stolen on a job site the "thief" had temporary access ''(until I got home to change some passwords)'' to job-related website bookmarks and logins, but not any personal or financial websites.

  • How to divide the network, limit bandwidth on RW110?

    Hello,
I have a problem with 2 users in the home network who overuse the internet. They constantly watch YouTube with Pandora turned on or other streaming content.
We have RW110. How can I limit their bandwidth, so when they use the internet they do not block other users?
    Thanks!

Hi Kamil, unfortunately you can't on this product. The bandwidth limit is from LAN to WAN. Not WAN to LAN. You can limit upload rates but that wouldn't do you much good.

  • How to limit bandwidth for guest per connection/user on 2504 WLC?

We have 2504 Controller with 24 AP's registered in a hotel and we would like to limit bandwidth per connection or per user.
I went to QOS Profiles > Bronze >
I do not see Per user Bandwidth Contracts(K)* instead I see WLAN QOS Parameters with below options.

    Hello
Our WLC model 5508, but there is confusion on difference between Override Per-User Bandwidth Contracts (kbps) vs Override Per-SSID Bandwidth Contracts (kbps)
    Our requirement-
On Guest SSID  - Each user / session should not exceed bandwidth more than 758kbps upstream/downstream
Only Guest users cannot login to multiple device with single userID - applicable only to Guest SSID other SSID should not get impacted.
    hope to get some response
    cheers

  • Need to limit bandwidth used for patching by SCCM

We have multiple T1 and 2xT1 circuits that get maxed out when SCCM is patching multiple computers at a site. The HQ site has a DS3 so I'm looking for suggestions on how to best limit the traffic that the SCCM server can send to a particular site during business hours.

A couple of ways that I could think of:
One would be to control by port number if you can find those
The other would be by source address.
If the SCCM server have static address(es), you can match on that address going to whereever you want, or you can police inbound at the remote locations (but that means it's already left the core and used that bandwidth). You can create a time range, apply the time range to the acl, and the apply that to a class map which it would match on. You could then create a policy to match on the class and shape outbound during that timeframe.

How do I delete excess email messages from my iPhone.  There are 300 messages listed, and every time I delete some, more are added from old messages.  How do I limit the number of messages that can appear on my phone?  How can I delete messages in bulk,

    You can't.
All photos transferred from your computer are stored in the Photo Library. The photos in the album or albums below are not duplicates - they include a pointer to the original photos stored in the Photo Library. This way you can view the photos in a particular album only by selecting the album, or you can view all photos available in all albums by selecting Photo Library.
Just as with an iTunes playlist. A song cannot be in an iTunes playlist unless the song is in the main iTunes library. Placing a song in a playlist does not duplicate the song. Remove the main iTunes library or the songs from the main iTunes library that are in a playlist and the songs will no longer be in the playlist either. This way you can listen to the songs in the playlist only by selecting the playlist, or all songs in your entire iTunes library by selecting Music under Library in the iTunes source list.
The same with iPhoto on a Mac. A photo cannot be in an in iPhoto Event or Album unless the photo is in the main iPhoto library. Placing a photo in an Event or Album does not duplicate the photo. This way you can view the photos in an iPhoto Event or Album only by selecting the Event or Album, or all photos in all Events or Albums.

  • Limit bandwidth per application

    Hi there,
I am looking for a way to limit bandwidth per application under Mac OS X Lion ; either with a dedicated app or Terminal command.
I didnt find any tools with Google or App Store : does that mean "limiting bandwith" is a *bad* idea ?
The purpose is mainly to limit iTunes !
    Thanks for advise.

I found a way to do this. It's a bit roundabout but it works. Rather than limit per application, you limit per server. For example I notice adobe creative cloud usually takes over my entire network connection when it's uploading a file to the cloud server, making it a pain to even browse the internet when it's sending a large file. Using little snitch's network monitor I see it's sending data to "creative.adobe.com", I enter that server into a program called speedlimit and set how much data it should send to that server. Fixed.

  • IPad Mini-- any way to limit time spent on particular aps, but have unlimited time on educational aps for kids?

My twin 8 year olds just got the iPad Minis for Christmas.  Is there a way to limit how much time they spend on a particular game/ap, but have unlimited time on the educational aps?   Everything I've read thus far states that I can't.

Under the Settings < General < Accessiblity < Guided Access, allows you to lock down an app so they cannot get out of it. With this you can lock down the educational apps for as long as you like.  You need to set a password.

  • Why can't there be a simple utility that shows me which device connected to my Airport is using how much of the bandwidth in a simple graphical or stats format without requiring me to be a level 10 Black Belt or Chuck Norris' paternal tooth fairy?

Why can't there be a simple utility that shows me which device connected to my Airport is using how much of the bandwidth in a simple graphical or stats format without requiring me to be a level 10 Black Belt or Chuck Norris' paternal tooth fairy?
I need to see who is consuming the most bandwidth and limit that user/device. A very simple and dare I say it, legal, moral, and normal wish.

They are not overloading the Airport. They are overwhelming the capacity of your Internet connection.
No. It's not "shared equally". That's not how packet switched networks function.
Most consumer grade routers do not have the ability to restrict bandwidth use on a per machine basis. You need relatively expensive (but readily available) equipment to do that.
How many people are on the network? It can't be that hard to hunt them down.

  • How do I limit the character count in a text field?

I'm creating a form for co-workers to use when creating web content. I need to restrict their character count for items like headlines, titles, subtitles, etc. Any suggestions on a ready-made form to use out there? And how can I limit those fields so they don't generate content that will then need to be edited down?

  • How can I limit the number of emails retained on my ipad air?

How can I limit the number of emails that are retained on my iPad Air?  Because of legal requirements of a long-term project, I cannot permanently delete emails relating to that project from my ISP's mail server.  My gmail account contains over 17,000 emails and, upon setting up my new iPad, and updating to ios 7.1.1, I now have all 17,000+ emails taking up space.  I would like to limit the emails by count as I was able to do on my old iPad running ios 5.1.1 OR to retain them based on date range.  I have not found any instructions on the support discussions or general iPad blogs that allow me to do that.  Any way around this problem?
I also miss the 5.1.1 mail search feature that allowed me to narrow the search by from/to/subject/all.  Does anyone know if that feature is available using some little-known ios 7.1.1 feature?
    Thanks for your help.

If you have a decent mail provider like Microsoft Hotmail or Outlook.com mail it does.
If you have Gmail it does not.  Quite right. Gmail is rubbish.

  • HT2729 I have limited space on my new ipad. How can I limit the number of songs from my itunes on my imac from going to my ipad when I connect the two?

I have limited space on my new ipad. How can I limit the number of songs from my itunes on my imac from going to my ipad when I connect the two?

you can do this by keeping the external hard drive connected and doing the following
-hold shift key down on computer while opening iTunes and a prompt will appear to choose a library
-select choose library, iTunes should bring up your explorer windows where you can search for the external HD
-after you find the external HD find the iTunes folder you just copied to it
-after opening the iTunes folder look for the file that says iTunes library.itl or if you can't see that extenstion just look for a document looking thing in the iTunes folder that shows up as a database file
-double click the database file and boom iTunes should load your library without having to copy it to the computer
PS: do make sure that if you are going to do it this way, make sure that the external HD is connected at all times, because if you don't then you will get exclamation marks next to your iTunes songs
double PS: if you are unsure how to find out if the iTunes library file is a database file just right click it and choose properties and under the type it should say database file
    hope this helps:)
