How do I link audio in the timeline?

My source audio is stereo mix but in the timeline each track is represented as if it were mono. It's just a bit annoying since every time I add an effect to one track I have to do it do the other. Is there a way to link the audio? What caused the audio to get unlinked in the first place?

To create a stereo pair:
1 Select a pair of mono audio clip items in the Timeline. (Use the Command key to select the second item, if necessary.) If you click one item of a linked pair, the other item is also selected.
2 Choose Modify > Stereo Pair (or press Option-L).
The stereo pair indicators appear on the selected clip items in the Timeline.
If the clip items you want to make into a stereo pair have different durations, the clip items are trimmed to the region where they both overlap. The levels, pan settings, and filters that were applied to the top clip are applied to both, and the clip attributes from the bottom clip are ignored.

Make sure the button for stereo pair is active in Log & Capture's Clip Settings:

  • How do I link clips in the timeline so that they move together?

I cannot seem to effectively link my clips together in the timeline and it is causing me multiple problems. First of all, when I want to move a clip from one place to another, the other clips after it are not moving forward to close the gap. I tried grouping the whole lot of clips together but then I cannot move individual clips without ungrouping them. Other problems are occuring as I try to solve this problem; the audio seems to have separated from the video so that if I do move a clip, the associated audio isn't going with it. It's frustrating. Someone can help with this easy problem surely. I've only just started using Premiere CS6 so I am a novice.

    Gaps dont automatically close.
Moving multiple clips you can do that in different ways: lassoing, using the track selection tool, shift click and so on.

  • How do I slip audio in the timeline?

I'm trying to replace some bad audio with audio recorded on a separate digital recorder. I'm using the bad audio as a guide track to sync the replacement audio. How can I slip the new audio accurately to match the bad audio. In other words, is there a way to slip the replacement audio track in the timeline with frame or sub-frame accuracy? Thanks for the help.

Thanks, guys. I think the info will help. I was syncing by zooming in on the waveform and slipping it by hand by grabbing the audio clip till it synced up. Keyboard controls will make it easier.
One more question: Once the audio is in sync, how do I use the "mark in sync" command in the "Modify" menu to lock the sync. Right now it's greyed out. I've tried highlighting the new audio track, but can't seem to get the mark in sync to light up. Thanks again.

  • How do I restore my video/audio in the Timeline of my project?

The whole timeline has windows that are red that say Media Offline.  Where did my video/audio go??
Where do I find it?  How do I restore it into the timeline I was working on with the project.  When I open the project I also get a question that wants to know where is a specific file pertaining to this project.

Or, was it on a DVD, that you Imported directly, and now that DVD is not in the drive/burner?
When media is listed as Off-line, just as Steve mentions, the link between the Project file (.PREL) has been broken. This can happen, when one Moves files, Renames files, or those files are, for some other reason, not where the program last saw them. This ARTICLE will give you a bit more background on the .PREL files, plus some tips on Save/Save_As, etc.
Usually, one gets warning messages, and PrE will help you locate your files. It does a good job of this. Did you get any messages, when you Opened this Project? Did you Move, or Rename any media files?
    Good luck,

  • My connected audio only clips moved from below to above the timeline. What happened? How do I get them below the timeline again?

My connected audio only clips moved from below to above the timeline. What happened? And how do I get them below the timeline again?

Repeatedly crashes. What I ended up doing was using a backup Final Cut Projects file and jettisoning this one with the glitch. Luckily, nada much lost. I've had a couple of these weird glitches happen in the Timeline, esp. when dealing with compound audio-only clips & some fx's and rather than spending mega time trying to fix the problem, I bail and start again, and try to be more methodical in my approach.

  • How to remove links pointing to the same page?

I have PDF documents with Links which point to sections referenced (e.g. link of text "Section 2.2" points to the actual page number of "Section 2.2"), but as the links are created from cross-references during rendition from Word to PDF, there are cases that the destination page number and source page number of the links are the same (e.g. links of text "Section 2.2" on page 9 are created with the destination of page 9 which is the actual page number of "Section 2.2"), I want to remove all these links, but I don't know how to get the destination page, I check the API reference and find that "PDLinkAnnotGetAction" may work , but I don't know how to use it, could you check me codes below and advise ? Your help is really appreciated!

Start by reading the PDF standard (ISO 32000-1) to understand Actions vs. Destinations.
Then for each annot, you'll want to see which it has (and in the case of an Action, if it has more than one).  Then you need to parse the action or dest to see what it is and where it goes.  If you don't like it, then you'll delete it.

  • Encore 1.5 -problem getting audio on the timeline

hi - newbie question!!!- i am trying to add audio to my mpeg2 video clip on the timeline in encore 1.5 - i believe you drag and drop the asset from the projects tab into the timeline but when i open the timeline and click the projects tab the timeline dissapears so i am unable to drop audio into the timeline.
is there any way of ensuring both tabs are open at the same time to allow this ?

What workspace do you have set up?
In our installation of Encore 1.5 it is perfectly possible to have the project assets list and a timeline both open at the same time.

  • One track of Audio in the timeline

I am only getting one track of audio in the timeline when I drag my clip from the viewer. In the viewer the audio is in stero, but when I drag it to the timeline it only one channel. Is there a setting that I change to get two channel of audio in the timeline?

Right (or control + click) over in the patching bay at the left of the timeline and see if it sees both a1 and a2. Assign the one you can't see to a patch and that might bring it back.

  • Linking audio clips in timeline

This must be as simple as I obviously am:
I would like to link some audio clips together (which currently run one after another) in the timeline in order that I can then drag them into the the viewer where I can then alter the levels and pans across the clips as a whole.
At the moment, when I select the clips and then drag them into the viewer, I just get the first clip as if taken from the browser, with the in / out points marked (i.e. what I originally dragged from the viewer into the timeline).
Have I explained this well enough? Can anyone help please?

as usual there a few ways you can do this .. just not the way you're trying to!
you can adjust pan for a selection of clips by choosing Modify menu > Audio > Pan Left/Center/Right
you can adjust the levels for a selection of clips by choosing Modify menu > Levels... which brings up the Gain Adjust window: in there you can make a releative or absolute adjustment to the selected clips
alternatively you could select those clips then choose Sequence meny > Nest Items which will create a new sequence containing those selected clips, replacing the selection in the current sequence with a single (nested sequence clip) ... then you can drag that one up into the viewer and adjust pan and levels as if it were a single merged clip
alternatively you can change your View menu > Playhead Sync to "Open"
then as you move your playhead in the timeline/canvas the clip under the playhead will be automatically loaded into the Viewer window where you can adjust pan/levels as required

  • How to rejoin two clips in the timeline in PrE 7?

Hello all. Please excuse this newbisome question, but I've had no luck in figuring it out.
I get one long clip into the timeline and then chop it up a lot (in a musical way that relates to quarter, eighth, sixteenth notes, etc). Often I find that I need to rejoin some of the clips, sometimes quite a bit of time after they've been split (so undo isn't an option).
    How can I do this?
PS, this is the first video editing software I've used. I've had PrE for three hours, but have had quite a bit of experience with editing audio in one program or another.
Cheers and thanks for your time.

People, thanks for the quick replies.
I understand that all the clips in the timeline are just instances; the same thing happens in audio software, but that software gives you the opportunity to re-glue clips (they're called regions in Logic) once they've been split.
I'm interested in trying to make a video like this  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35Y7tr3mBtQ
I can do this sort of thing quite easily with audio, and I think I'm on my way with the video stuff, but being able to re-glue clips would help with handling. I go through the “master clip” looking for beats and little sections that will do the trick. In my current proj, a  1/16th note lasts for four frames, so as you can imagine, I have a lot of 4-frame sub-clips to deal with. I generate each sub-clip from my original master clip after I have dragged it into the timeline from the organizer. I then copy, paste and resize the clips, all in the timeline. I only use the preview window as a way of reminding myself what clip x, y or z sounds like. Maybe I need to investigate the functions of the preview window more. The group option may be a work around as well.
A lot of what I do is “suck and see”. I split off a piece, then listen to it in isolation in the preview window by double-clicking and using 'play from In to Out'.  A simple re-glue would be fast and convenient if the clip didn't pass the audition.
Quite possibly I'm using an inefficient method (very new to this). Any advice would be gratefully received.
    Cheers,
    Mark

  • No Audio in the timeline and no sound as well using CS4

We have installed CS4 Premiere Pro. When we imported a video clip, there was an error message "audio conforming error". the image part showed up but there was nothing (no sound, no wave length on the timeline). We can work on this video file on CS3 version on the other computer. Please help.
    Lily

    Kevin,
It has been suggested by several, that the workaround that you mention, no longer works with CS4. I do not have it, so I cannot check the validity of those suggestions.
Still, when faced with material that proves problematic for PrPro (any version) to handle, one can most often find a way to convert that material to something that WILL work better. Sometimes there is a quality hit, but this has often taken place BEFORE the conversion.
To borrow on Harm's example and to paraphrase, if faced with the prospect of trying to drive a screw with a hammer, if one replaces the screw with a nail, things will likely go much more smoothly. Now, in so doing, the connection made with the nail will likely not be a good, or as strong, as with the screw, but will often work. That's what the conversion does.
The Premiere-wiki has many good suggestions for conversion techniques and programs. There is even one for Converting AC3 Audio.

  • How can I move video down the timeline?

New user here. Please can anyone help. When you import a picture into Soundtrack, why does it always automatically go to the first frame of your project title. For example, if I want the picture to be at 10 00 00 00, I will put this in the project title import the picture and away we go. However, I would like the opportunity to put a plop 48 frames before the picture. I thought it would be a simple process to drag and drop the picture as you do audio but it appears not to be the case. I have looked everywhere for a solution but to no avail. I should point out, that I am using ST Pro as a stand alone audio device, that is, not alongside Final Cut. I also work in an audio post production studio and am evaluating the possibility of using ST Pro as part of our tools. With this picture restriction, though, it is looking unlikely. Anyone's help and advice on this would be much appreciated. I am aware ST Pro is audio editing only. I use it for that purpose. However, it is an audio to picture tool. For example, in my game, I put audio to tv commercials. Thus, I need the picture to put audio against. I know I can import the picture. My simple question is why, when you import the picture, does it always go to the start of your timeline. So, if I put my start time at 10 00 00 00, I am unable to put anything before that marker. So if I want to put any audio before the picture, whether it be a plop or tone, I can't. I simply want to drag the picture to another time point that will allow to have some potential audio time before the picture. If any of you try to import a picture in a new title, you will see what I mean. If you don't set a timecode, it will put the picture at point zero on the time line and not allow you to bring the cursor before that. If you set a time at 10 00 00 00, again it will not allow you to move the cursor to a point before that point. If Apple were serious about going into the post pro market they should ensure that this works as a stand alone system. I was speaking to them the other day and mentioned this. As I say, it really does seem peculiar that you are unable to perform such a simple exercise.

Hi laser558, everything you say is true. I continue to [maintain|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1385395&tstart=150] that STP is mainly a tool for video editors to work with sound in a better way than they are able to in FCP, and not a mainline tool for audio professionals. Some people may disagree with that, and if they can get the job done that's great, but the more I work with it the more I feel this way. That's not to say the program doesn't have tremendous possibilities, and that eventually STP may become a really useful program for you, but regrettably I don't recommend it for everyone you at this time.
The only way to deal with your dilemna in STP is to edit the movie (say in QTPro) before you import it.

  • How do I lock clips on the timeline?

    Hi,
I am compiling music videos, taking the best grabs from 6 to 10 takes of a song which the band played along with the studio recording of the song.
The sound track is therefore the synch mechanism.
I am lining all the takes up above each other in synch with the master audio track.
My problem is that when I make cuts in the various takes the clips all ripple backwards and I have to constantly keep re-synching the clips.
I have used this method previously in Premiere Pro 6 which had a padlock symbol at the left hand end of the tracks which was used to lock or unlock the clips on the timeline.
Is there a control key that will do this for me in Premiere Elements and if not, could you suggest another  way to get around this problem?
    Thanks,
    Nick
PS an unrelated question: Can I run Elements 9 on my laptop? (2 gb Ram, 1.66ghz intel centrino duo). I know that the processor speed is lower than recommended but am wondering if it will just run slowly or not at all.
    Cheers

PRE does not have a lock feature. By default it ripple deletes (i.e butts the clips either side of a cut). To override this right-click and select clear or use [Shift]+[Delete].
Personally I think you would find the experience unpleasant running on that laptop, but the best thing to do is to install it and see (your licence allows you to install on two machines providing both are not in use at the same time).
