How Do I link pages in iweb??

Hi,
I can't seem to get the inspector to work with me??
I can't seem to activate the bax where it says enable hyperlink?? Don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks

Assuming you've selected with the mouse something to hyperlink, what kind of object or text is it? By the way, iWeb's Help viewer has step-by-step instructions under "Working with text and adding links'.

  • How long does one page in iWeb go?

    Hi,
I currently have a website up on freewebs.com and now I have my own domain name and am working on making a new site with iWeb and just started using it the other day.
When you are working on a page within iWeb lets say the Welcome page, are you limited to one page or can you keep on going within that page so it scrolls down. Let's say my first page is really 5 pages do I just keep adding stuff to that first page and it will automatically scroll when someone opens it in their browser (provided they click the down arrow)?
What I'm really asking is, is their a limit to how long your first page is? I hope this is making sense here.
    S.

I don't think that a page in iWeb is limited in it's length. There maybe a limit that apple has placed on it, but it is well past 6000 pixels. You can change how long your page is by opening the inspector and clicking on the second tab from the left. This will open your "page" dialouge. Edit the length of your page by increasing the number in the "content height" field. About the automatic updating of the length in your page; that does happen, but only when you move certain things. iWeb will not lengthen your page when you keep adding more stuff into it. It will increase the length, however, if you litterally move the position of something that is a default item in your selected template. For instance, iWeb will update the length of your page if you move the position of that default text field (wich is in French or somethinng) beyond the current page's "page length" limitation. You can see more clearly the boundaries wich you've set for yourself by changing temporarily the "browser background" color (also in the "page" dialouge in the inspector.
One other tip: (this is not at all related) Personally I don't like the look or configuration of the links in Apple's provided navigation menu. I choose not to display the nav menu and I use my own. It takes more work - you have to worry about style and all of that in addition to coordinating all those links. so let's say you use a tab configuration like i do. I have five tabs, and I have about 40 pages on my website. That means I had to make 200 links just for my custom nav menu. Coordinating them to make sure each one is correctly configured is another thing. I think it's worth it though. - And the copy and paste technology invented 3 billion years ago has been used more and more by me to complete that task! check it out if you like at DesignNashville.com.

  • How to redirect a page on iweb

Hi I have an online store @ cafepress that I built with them..Is there a way to create a page on Iweb that visitors click (the tab) and are then taken to that specific page or is there a way to embed that page into an iweb page....any help would be appreciated.

You can make an external link for taking visitors on that page or you can embed that page in yours through an iframe but that doesn't work very well so I wouldn't recommend you to do that.

  • Linking pages in iweb

Ok, I'm new to iWeb-- I am trying to build a simple web page for my mother. She has a small catering business. I need to be able to make multiple pages and be able to link to them, but I don't want a million links in my above header (which is the only place I know of to get links)
    So.
I want to be able to make a page for each category...and have a 'gallery' to be on the header that goes on the top...and then on that gallery page, be able to click on each of the categories. (so I want the clicking to be on the page... not the top)
Is this possible? Does this make sense?

You can certainly do what you describe.
In iWeb you can make any object a hyperlink.
In your scenario make a page called Gallery. Then make a text box (or line of text) with the names of each of your categories.
Then create a page in iWeb for each of your categories.
Then make each name of each category a hyperlink as described here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iWeb/3.0/en/23561.html and point the hyperlink at the pages you created.

  • How to add sub pages in iWeb templates

Anybody knows how to add a sub pages in the templates? I want to add sub pages under the main header, e.g. "About Us."

Just to say that you can do it in the way that Steve has already said and I did this on one of my sites and it worked really well.
Lets take your example of About George. You create your page About George and you include this page in your navigation menu. Now lets suppose that you have more that you want to add about George with two other pages - George at Work and George at Play. You want to link to these pages from About George, but you don't want the page names visible. Well, you can do this by creating the pages and then going to Inspector. Click on pages and then check don't include in navigation menu. Then you can create links on the About George page to get to the other pages George at Work and George at Play - use shapes or text boxes to create these with something like Back and Next on those pages to take you forward to the next page and then back to the main page.
I think you will need to create your own nav bar to be able to achieve this, as it means linking to different pages, but it does work well.

  • How do you publish pages with iweb using multiple computers?

I own a business and have been creating a website through iweb. My partner has done the bulk of the work on his laptop. I created a page on mine, but cannot seem to figure out how to get it loaded into the site on his computer.
    Can anyone help?

You can't merge the separate data contained on the two computers, so you will probabably need to recreate your page on the other machine. It's possible to use two computers to work on a site by exchanging the data file between them. This file is at
    Users/username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain
But you need to have the same one on both machines if they are both editing the same site.

  • How to make a "/" page in iWeb?

I'm using the latest iWeb. My website is http://www.JOHNisFUNNY.com ... From there I have pages such as "videos" and "freelance" that people click on and it takes them to that specific page.
I'd like to be able to type in JOHNisFUNNY.com/videos and it takes them right there.
Can someone help me do this? I called up my hosting provider and they told me had to be done through iWeb.
    Thanks!

Simply publish to a local folder from iWeb and upload your site using Cyberduck, which can be downloaded for free. Rather than uploading your whole site folder just upload the contents and not the whole folder and your url will then be http://www.domain.com/page name.html, eliminating the site name.
Not though, that if you do this and you have any RSS feeds in place they will not work, as you break iWeb site structure by not uploading the site folder which the RSS feed needs to work.

  • Aperture web gallery - how to link back to main page from iWeb?

Okay, this may be simple, but I can't figure it out.
I created and uploaded a few web pages with iWeb to my dot.Mac account (web.mac.com/f8lee50) just to get a feel for things. I then created a web gallery with Aperture and uploaded it - naturally Aperture generated a URL for the gallery, which I set up as a link on my "Photos from Hawaii" page (the link is the word 'this' in the second paragraph, if you wawnt to look).
Okay, so this gets me from the "photos from Hawaii" page to the gallery, and within the gallery I can jump to the various images etc. But how does one navigate back to the "Photos from Hawaii" page from whence they came? Is there some sort of smart link that can be inserted (by Aperture?) that will send the viewer back to the main homepage? Or are the Aperture galleries essentially dead ends?

Richard, thanks for responding - I'll check that tutorial.
And thank you for the kind words, me100finn. I have not played with any variables as far as layout on the gallery (I did a bunch of stuff with the books, but the web gallery seems far less flexible) so I cannot answer your wuestion about the gray shadows.
Steve, thank you for the additional clarification (and the hint about spaces in URLs) - I guess what this all boils down to is that the web galleries from Aperture are not all that useful when they are meant to be a part of a bigger overall site. I'm not sure of what you meant when you say they have little forward or backward navigation in them - at least you can click on a thumbnail to get to an image, click next or previous or the grid to get back to the thumbnail galery. But, 'twould seem that hand coding HTML pages (the very thing I was hoping to avoid) is the only way to really integrate them. Given that, I gues the better approach will be just to use iWeb to load the images anyway.
Well, folks, thank you all for your answers. Until I do a re-do, I guess the back button is the way to go (which, for the record, I did sorta figure out myself

  • How to create internal links to a particular part of a page in iweb 08

    Hello,
Can anyone help me create hyperlinks to a particular part of a page in iWeb 08? I've tried and tried and failed and failed!
    Many thanks and best,
    Rudy

Jumping in here ... sorry to be dim but I may need an even more rudimentary explanation as I'd really love to have the scrolling functionality on my site.
    1. Where exactly do you place the 'HTML Snippet' on your page? Does it matter? Is it only one HTML Snippet or do I have to do one for each internal link I want on the page?
    2. Am I just typing a list of Y coordinates here: anchors.push(Y coordinate) ? So if I want the first link on the page to scroll down to 'Y 431 px' then I would replace 'anchors.push(0)' with 'anchors.push(431)' ? And then the next one the next Y coordinate and so on?
Again - apologies for not getting what I'm sure is something very simple but I do appreciate it.
This is the page I'm trying to do it for (with the hyperlinks as I understand I'm supposed to do them and an html snippet on the page ... obviously not functioning correctly): http://www.calderastrategy.com/Site/Services.html
    Thanks very much

  • Re: Help to remove link on an iWeb page

I used iWeb to post a web-page and somehow there is a "link" on the whole large text block that downloads a photo every time every time someone clicks on the page. I can't figure out how to find and remove that link when I open the page in iWeb. Any ideas are welcome.  Thanks!

Try selecting the text box itself - rather than the text - and look in the Link inspector window to see if it is selected as a hyperlink. Is so, uncheck the box.

  • How do I create sub-pages in iWeb?

Hi, How do I create sub-pages in iweb like it does in this website
    http://www.e-alliance.ch/index.php?id=405
with all the main menus "about us", "advocacy capacity", etc?
    Thank you for your help!!!
    Boaz

To create sub pages, just ensure that the main menu item is in the main menu and then for the sub pages themselves, ensure that they are NOT in the main menu and you link back by creating links instead.
For example, you could use Staff as a main menu item, so Staff would be in the main menu and then descriptions of different staff members would be underneath, but not in the main menu - they would have separate links that you create and then hyperlink.
If you want to make drop down menus in iWeb, as in the site that you linked to, you can't do this directly in iWeb itself.  You have to make it and then upload various css files to your web host and link to it in iWeb etc.  It is quite a complex task to create drop down menus in iWeb.  If you want to do that, then I would suggest that you use a different app instead - take a look at http://www.everwebapp.com.

  • How do I link an iWeb site to a Yahoo store?

    Hi all,
I designed an iWeb site for a friend, she is hosted at Yahoo Small Business. She also wanted to use Yahoo ecommerce does anyone know how to link an iWeb site to a Yahoo store? Yahoo uses store tags which they tell me can't be used in iWeb I was hoping to just link the ecommerce store I created in Yahoo to a store link in iWeb like a separate page. But I don't know how or if that will work. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Marilyn

    Hi,
LOL, you are absolutely correct I am moaning and groaning and you are correct about the tech suport the reason I am so frustrated.
    The website is www.papeteriecollections.com (iWeb)
    The Yahoo store is store.papeteriecollections.com
The yahoo store is set up to the point of store tags. I was able to link the store to the site itself but not the items in the store to the items in the website. That's where the tags come in. From yahoo I copied their code from the item and then pasted it into iWeb. The link worked from iWeb back to the yahoo store, but not after publishing it. So then I tried the (html snippet) in iWeb and pasted the store tag code in there at the bottom of one of the items in my site, and order button appeared. (good thing) but it didn't work either. please see below:
I hope this makes better sense and I apologize for being a baby!
    Thanks
    Marilyn

  • Links within pages in iWeb

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I can't figure out how to create hyperlinks within a page in iWeb. Specifically, I'm trying to write a FAQ, and want to link individual questions listed at the top of the page with their answers further down in the page. Help???

Those are called anchors and not supported by iWeb. Put in a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html.
It can be done with HTML snippets and javascript as Cyclosaurus mentions here: http://widgets.cyclosaurus.com/Anchors/Anchorsfiles/widget0markup.html. But one must be proficient with javascript.
There's a crude workaround with snippets that Peter Berglund describes in his blog: http://web.me.com/petber/iWebtips/iWeb_Tips/Entries/2009/2/22_How_to_use_Anchors_iniWeb.html. This Contents page uses that method for some of it's links - those that are green.
Alternate solutions are with using rollovers like shown in this demo page: Show and Hide Text or using Fancy Zoom shown in the right hand example in this page: FancyZoom You could replace the photo with an image that says Click for Answer" or whatever and have the answer in a jpg file. Both are somewhat low tech solutions.

  • Can there be an Home/Index page that has links to sub pages in iWeb?

How do you set up a Home page with links to other Photo web pages?
iWeb does a super job creating individual pages full of photos.
But if I want to have a "Directory" page that kicks off the whole site, how do I do that in iWeb?
I want to break up my photo pages into groups like:
Portraiture, Still Life, Life Style etc.

    Thanks Will.
Most of my site is created in iWeb. I have been messing around with a iCalendar PHP also, to create a nice calendar for the site.
The Home page is a couple of programs used together.
    1. I drew sketches of the little main street.
    2. recreated the main Street in a GREAT program called SketchUp. it is the most User Friendly 3D program around and their Website has super tutorials to get you up and running in no time - seriously. Then exported it out to Photoshop as a flattened jpg. (I also did this for the individual buildings for my Banners)
    3. In Photoshop, I painted my buildings and gave them some personality.
    4. I originally had an Image Map that I created in ImageReady as my Home page, but that doesn't work for iWeb, so I had to use Flash.
    5. I made a Flash Movie creating my Buttons and Links and Rollovers (Here you have to Plan some, cause you need to what pages you will have at the end and know the URL to the final pages iWeb produces. It is something like ..sitefolder/sitename/Home.html.
    6. Then, I published it as a Quicktime Movie from Flash. You have to Publish as Flash 5 compatible in order to get a quicktime movie. Also, I set up my movie to loop, no controller, and auto play in Flash.
    7. Put it on my Home page. (The controller shows up in iWeb, but not in the final Published Site. (I also do not have to manually change the HTML to autoplay "true" and controller "false" on this particular page. I do have to on others though.)
Thanks again Will, for your kind words - I have been working very hard on this site.
Also, don't forget to go to Suzanne's Site 11mystics.com for a lot of information and iWeb tips, tricks, and related links.
