    How do you link text-boxes in Pages 5.2?

    Thank you for your help; it is appreciated. I suspected that, but am still disappointed. I am finding myself getting more and more disenchanted with Apple products in the past few years. I've been a faithful fan, user and promoter since the 1980s, but I am starting to seriously doubt their competency in the past few years with the Pages 5 version as well as what iOS7 continues to do to my iPhone (as my prime examples). Instead of enhancing my life and work, Apple is beginning to waste my time -- a lot of it! Perhaps it is time for a change.... I don't want to, but I am starting to look for other alternatives.

  • Linking text boxes in Pages

    I can no longer link text boxes in Mavericks. I have version 10.9.3 installed. It seems like this is a problem that should have/would have been addressed long ago. When I go to Format in Pages, the Add Link is in light grey and it will not let me add the link. Am I missing something....

    You should be posting in the Pages for Mac community for better response.
    The last Pages version that linked text boxes was Pages ’09 v4.3. Pages v5.2 does not have this capability, and only Apple knows when or if they will fix that glaring omission.
    If you had the older mentioned Pages installed before (downgrading) to Pages v5+, it was moved into /Applications/iWork ’09, and remains a functional improvement over Pages v5+.

  • Turn off linking text boxes in Pages

    I find the linking text boxes annoying because I'm always fighting trying to STRETCH a box and Pages wants to add a linking floating text box.
    Does anyone know how to turn off this feature completely, so it never comes back on unless I want it to?
    For a while it was OFF, and then all of a sudden I'm back fighting the linking text box feature when trying to move my text box where I want it.
    Thanks for any suggestions or help!

    Pamela,
    No, I don't believe that you can disable Text Box Linking. Just keep your mouse pointer away from the Link Handles.

  • How do I remove text boxes from Pages

    I have an awful time with Pages on my lap top.  I am used to Appleworks  6.2 on my older desktop (PowerMac G4 / OS 10.4.11).  If I specify a US letter page I get that in Appleworks, it  is then 8.1/2" x 11", without running into pre-existing formats or other similar distractions. I can immediately type a neat business letter.
    Not with Pages.  On my MacBookAir, with Pages 4.3 and OS 10.8.4, I can type alright, but when I want to print what I typed, only a small part of what I typed shows up in in Print Preview of my typed page.  After a bit of backtracking,  I notice a blue-lined rectangle on my typed page containing the portion of my typing that appeared in that Print Preview.  It is apparently a self-formed "text box", that was not a part of my blank template page and was not inserted by me while or just before I typed.
    I did not find any way to delete the edges of that text box. The "delete" option under the pull down edit menu is blanked out.  If I click on the "Text box " symbol in the menu bar it does not let me switch off the text box, but instead gives me another text box inside the first one!  I suppose this is to allow user to print only a single keyboard stroke of the entire letter.  The "Inspector" seems to have no options to set text boxes.
    Pages "Help" Menu has nothing of how to delete a text box, or how to prevent it in the first place from screwing up what you have typed in such manner that it becomes unprintable.
    Similarly a small rectangular box formed on both the top and the bottom of each page (which could be a space reserved for a header or footer), but again I do not use these on my business letters, and they appear self-formed by Pages, and I would like to know how to prevent them, or delete them.
    In other words I like to get a blank page to start with, which will only set up and type what "I, THE  USER" enter on my keyboard.
    Can anybody tell me how to this with Pages?
    (PS. I can do it with even with Thunderbird !)

    1. Open a blank Word Processing template (they are listed in the Template Chooser sidebar), you have opened a Layout template that requires Textboxes for you to type into.
    2. To select a Textbox hold down the command key and click on its edge or lassoo it, then hit delete.
    3. If you don't want Headers or Footers, uncheck them in the Document Inspector
    4. Download the Pages09_UserGUide.pdf from under the Help menu and familiarise yourself with Pages' basics. Also look around your Menus and Inspectors which are laid out logically from left to right from broad to details.
    I suggest you click inside your textbox first go command a and copy the contents before you delete it and then paste that into a new Word Processing template.

  • Having trouble linking text boxes in Pages on iMac

    I can't seem to link text boxes so that text flows from one to another.  Has the process in Pages changed in the new update?  Any advice?  Thanks!

    All versions of Pages v5 have omitted the ability to link Text boxes.

  • I cannot link text boxes in Pages 5.0 like I could in previous versions.  Solutions?

    In previous versions of Pages, one could create text boxes and then link them.  This was very useful for creating multi-page booklets with proper pagination, without having to use an expensive publishing software.  Linking of textboxes is no longer available in Pages 5.0.  Does anyone have a work-around for this problem?

    Pages 5 has over 90+ missing features.
    Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
    Trash or archive Pages 5 (after exporting any documents back to Pages '09 format) and review it in the App Store.

  • Linking text boxes in Pages v5.5.1

    My old Pages, '09, was able to link text in text boxes. I just upgraded to Yosemite, and then to Pages v 5.5.1, and now, when opening my old newsletters, the text boxes unlink, and I can not find a way to re-link them. I need to have text boxes linked in my newsletters. Help!

    Gone, with over 100 other features.
    Use Pages '09 it should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

  • Aligning lines between pages in InDesign CS5

    Hi all,
    After many  fruitless hours of Googling, I'm really, really hoping to find some help  here with a small InDesign CS5 issue I'm having. I'll try and keep this  brief.
    I'm currently designing a book in InDesign CS5  that has chapters that run one after the other. Whereas in most books a  new chapter will start on a new page, here they flow together. For each  chapter heading, I'm using a font called Orial, size 18. For the main  text, I'm using Adobe Garamond Pro, size 12. When I have two solid pages  of 12 point Adobe Garamond Pro, all is well. The alignment of lines on  both pages are level with one another. That's just what I want.
    However,  if I have a double page spread and one of the pages has an 18pt Orial  title on it (within all the 12pt Adobe Garamond Pro), this throws things  out of whack, as you can see in the image below:
    As you can see, the lines on page 79 are not level with those on page 78. Is there any way around this?
    Many, many thanks for any help you can offer. I'm rather tearing my hair out here!

    Hm, I'm afraid I'm still encountering problems here. I'll talk through what I've done so far using Josh's excellent guide:
    (I should note at the start that my text frames are all linked to one another, and I am using paragraph styles).
    Firstly, I checked 'Grids in Back' was switched off (thanks ghf232):
    Secondly, I turned on the following:
    View -> Screen Mode -> Normal
    View -> Extras -> Show Frame Edges
    View -> Grids -> Show Baseline Grid
    My document now looked like this:
    Then I highlighted all text with Ctrl+A:
    And next I hit the 'Align to baseline grid' button:
    This resulted in the following:
    Next, I went to Preferences -> Grids and changed 'Increment Every' option to 1.5:
    Alas, the lines remained uneven:
    I'm sure I'm missing something really obvious. If anybody couldhelp, I'd be hugely grateful. Thanks again all.

  • How do you link text boxes?   How do you reader pages in thumbnails

    Did these features disappear in the new Pages.  Seems they are essential parts of any publishing program

    Oh, what a useful tip! Thanks. I was wondering why that was happening. I was dropping on the Pages 09 icon in the dock to avoid this problem.
    The workaround suggested in this thread is somewhat helpful, but not for those of us who layout whole magazines. We need to be able to insert full page pics, ads, etc., and have text flow right on beyond them to the next pages.
    Apple apparently have never laid out a magazine.
    Am I deluded, or is there a bit of a drift toward Windows garbage occurring at Apple? Gee, I sure hope not. I would hate to see OS X become a Windows look-alike.

  • Is there a way to link text boxes in pages 5?

    The previous version, 4.3 allowed easy linking of textboxes.  This made creation of booklets simple, without having to resort to desktop publishing programs.  Does anyone know how to link in 5.0?

    Feature removed by Apple along with a 100 others.
    Pages '09 is still in your Applications/iWork folder. Use that.
    Also rate/review Pages 5 in the App Store.

  • How to copy Chinese text from MS Word to Indesign CS5.5

    Hello, I am a beginner and wanted to simply copy Chinese characters from MS WOrd to indesign CS 5.5. But it showed up in indesign as a bunch of squares. ANyone knows how to do it right? Thanks

    Joel Cherney wrote:
    If you cannot find any of these, the InDesign installation disk comes with a bunch of free high quality fonts, courtesy of Adobe.
    Use those.
    The chances are quite small that you will offend your Chinese readership by setting text in an overtly Japanese font like Mincho or Kozuka - but the chance is a non-zero chance. All the right glyphs are there, of course (thank you Unihan), but typographic standards differ between the two languages, and there's no sense in taking the risk.
    Ah -- apologies! Wait, let me check my ID ... I got
    * Apple LiGothic, Apple LiSung (installed by default on OS X)
    * BiauKai (umm, don't know)
    * Adobe Fan Heiti
    * STHeiti
    * LiHei Pro
    * LiSong Pro
    * Adobe Ming Std
    * Adobe Fangsong Std
    * GB18030Bitmap (exactly what it says: a bitmap font, and you can use it in InDesign! A bad idea...)
    * Hei
    * Heiti SC
    * Adobe Heiti Std
    * Hiragino Sans GB
    * Kai
    * Adobe Kaiti Std
    * Adobe Song Std
    .. and yet even more. If you are working on Windows, you get a couple of "MS Xxx" fonts as well, and in that case you are definitely better off with Adobe's set.
    I must admit I only see the difference because Japanese fonts usually do not include a "full" set of glyphs (at least, not the "usual" 3,000 to 10,000). Joel, care to point out some tell-tale glyph forms?

  • The linked text boxes are very important to my work flow. Not being able to flow text between pages has cost me a lot of valuable time in producing my newsletter. Any ideas?

    In Pages 09 I was able to flow text between text boxes on the same page and to different pages but that seems to have gone away. This is one of the most useful items in Pages that I use. Now it seems to have gone away and I could find no replacement in doing my last newsletter, (which took at least 3 times as long to produce.) I am very disappointed in Pages 13 so far and look for some bright side to this software to change my opinion.

    Apple has promised to bring back *some* features "within six montha." We're 4 months into the clock. They have brought back a couple of features (ability to cutomize the toolbar, for instance, and vertical ruler). But they still have a long way to go and there is no certainty that linked text boxes will be restroed. It wasn't cited in their original list of examples  of what would be brought back. (Nor was mail merge, bookmarks, Applescript support, or many other items.)
