  • How can I do a clean install of Mountain Lion?

I have an older MacBook Pro that I'm selling. I upgraded to Mounbtain Lion, but there was not an option to do a clean install (wiping everything clean and starting fresh). I want to do this to make sure all of my data is removed before I sell it. How can I do a clean install of Mountain Lion in order to accomplish this? In the past, from DVDs, it was easy. Thanks!

Sure, but I would imagine that it will be common for people to sell their Macs with upgraded OSs.
That was only OK when you bought the Upgrade DVD and included both the original system discs and the disc you used to upgrade the OS.
Since Apple has now gone to the Download only model of OS X you now always need to install the Original OS or an Upgraded version that you have the DVD disc for.
If a Mac came with Leopard and you upgraded to Snow Leopard and then to Lion or Mt Lion you must remove Lion or Mt Lion and reinstall either Leopard or Snow Leopard and include all the discs for that system, Originals and the Upgrde Snow Leopard DVD.
If your system came Snow Leopard and you installed Lion or Mt Lion thenn again you remoeve Lion or Mt Lion and reinstall Snow Leopard and include the original discs that came with the system
If your system came with Lion and you upgraded to Mt Lion then you remove Mt Lion and reinstall Lion.
The reason for all of that is because with the Download only OS all upgrades are TIED to YOUR Apple ID, not to the computer. So the new owner can not reinstall Lion or Mt Lion, whichever you upgraded to, without using your Apple ID.

  • How do I do a fresh install of Mountain Lion on a SSD?

Hey guys, tried searching on the forums for this but I couldn't find it. Doesn't help that my internet connection has having severe issues today either!
I just bought myself a new Macbook Pro a couple of days ago and finally have the time to set it up today. It currently has the normaly 500gb hard drive in there. Now I have an SSD in my old Macbook Pro, which I will be formatting and placing into the new MBP. How would I then go about doing a fresh install of Mountain Lion without the Mountain Lion setup file? I know I can purchase it on the App store, but I shouldn't have to do that as my new MBP is of course Mountain Lion.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks guys.

If it wasn't a Mac computer that originally came with either Lion or Mt Lion Pre-Installed by Apple when new you would not be able to connect to the Online Internet Recovery system. It is a Feature of the Mac EFI Firmware system. And it will only install whichever version of the Download only version of OS X that originally came on that system.
My MBP came with Lion Preinstalled. Even if I have Mt Lion installed on the hard drive the Online Internet Recovery system would always point my MBP to the Lion download as that was the original version of OS X that came on my Mac.
No real authentication needed. Since your Mac came with Mt Lion no matter what newer versionof OS X you ever install the OIRS will always point you to Mt Lion and ONLY Mt Lion.
It is something different, but not completely different, from the built in Recovery HD partition on the internal drive.
No worries as during the install of MT Lion on your SSD the installer will Recreate the Mt Lion Recovery HD partition on your SSD.

  • How do I do a clean install of Mountain Lion?

I already have Mac OS X Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro A1126, but how can I do a clean install on it? Do I have to buy a installation disc or from Mac App Store?
    Thanks in advance!

I differentiate between a 'clean' installation and a 'fresh' installation by this meaning: a 'clean' installation means that you're going to erase the boot drive and 'cleanly' install everything, including OS X anew, whereas, for me, a 'fresh' installation means only that you're NOT going to erase the entire drive, but only install a 'fresh' version of OS X.
So which do you wish to do?
Either way, you should just be able to boot into your Recovery partition (hold down the command and R keys whilst booting) and then either install a 'fresh' version of OS X, or erase the contents of the drive, using Disk Utility, and do a 'clean' install of OS X.
Mountain Lion does not come on a disc - you should have purchased it via the App Store and you may need your Apple ID to install again from the Recovery partition.
    Does that help?

  • Clean install of Mountain Lion

How can I do a clean install of Mountain Lion on a newly formatted HD?

If you have already installed Mountain Lion and have the Recovery Disk, use that method first. If not, proceed.
Back up your Mac, and test that backup: Let me say that again: Back up your Mac, and test that backup—before installing Mountain Lion.
Create a bootable USB drive (see link)
Boot from the aforementioned Mountain Lion installer by holding “Option” at boot and selecting the external boot installer drive
Choose “Disk Utility” from the Mac OS X Utilities screen
Select the destination hard drive from the left side and click on the “Erase” tab, set the format as “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” and click “Erase”
Exit out of Disk Utility, and back at the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select “Install Mac OS X”
Select the destination hard drive and install as usual
Choosing a clean install will force the destination drive to lose all existing data. Only do this if you have a backup made and you are comfortable with formatting the Mac hard drive.

  • How to get list of software installed

How to get list of softwares installed in a system?. should i use registry to get information or control panel?
is there any package available for this? how should i start with/
    thanks

Obviously U need to use registry in this case if u want to get information about installed softwares in your Computer (WINDOWS os specific)...
U might have to use JNI in this case & try to get all the subkeys listed under the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache"
    or
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall"
    REF: http://mindprod.com/jgloss/registry.html
& in order to access WINDOWS registry U make use of few custom built pacakges..
    take a look @
    http://www.trustice.com/java/jnireg/
NOTE: as it is JNI Specific it only supported by all MS WINDOWS Operating Systems which uses registry as their standard repository to store System info.
Hope this might be of some help... :)

Error 1403. How do I tell which update was the last downloaded?
It is my understanding the updates need to be downloaded in order.

    Hi jmin907
You may need to download the update from the Adobe Download site (Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform= Windows). These updates typically have to be installed in order unless the downloads indicate otherwise.

  • How can I get a copy of mountain lion for my mac book pro on which I already have mountain lion 10.8.2 installed

I have a MacBookPro which came installed with Mountain  Lion10.8.2.

    2. My brother got me this Mac between December 2012 - January 2013 from Australia, I live in  India, How do I find out if I am in warranty. Can I call any number. I have an Apple ID with me which I just created and I have the serial number with me but I do not know the exact date of purchase.
Where can I download or purchase a copy of Mountain Lion? is there any other site other than Apple?
How good is Maverick, Can I upgrade from Mountain Lion 10.8.2 to Mavericks. The local service center did not bother to verify the warranty and told me to pay 2000 rupees. I thought the warranty to be worldwide, apparently not, any suggestions.
If I have no warranty I would still want a DVD of Mountain Lion since I can do the install myself and do not need to pay 2000 for installation. There is no data to backup. I would really appreciate any help here.
    Regards

You can go to the Apple online store and purcahse a copy of Mountain Lion.  This will give you a redemption code, which you can use to download Mountain Lion from the App Store.  Unfortuantely, I'm not aware of any other way to legally purchase it.  I have never seen Apple release Muontain Lion on DVD.
In terms of Apple Service, they just need the serial number of the machine to check the purcahse date.  It is usually correct, to within a few weeks.  A quick Google search should give you the correct number to dial.
    I hope this helps.

  • How to download but not install OSX Mountain Lion on Mavericks

    Hi all
I would like to download but not install OSX Mountain Lion on my MBP which is currently running OSX Mavericks.
This however seems impossible. I think OSX Mavericks were already installed on my MBP and therefore it seems "impossible" to download it.
Now, why would I to do this? The answer is quite reasonable, due to certain demands related to an application portfolio I need Mountain Lion, because the portfolio is not upgraded to run on Mavericks. And, it is more reasonable to downgrade a version of OSX, rather waiting for the portfolio upgrade which can take years.
Yes, I need to downgrade my secondary MBP which also came with preinstalled Mavericks. This can be done, if I only could download but not install Moutain Lion.
It should be easy enough; download Mountain Lion, make an installer and make a bootable thumb usb stick. Then erase Mavericks and install Mountain Lion.
I have previously bought Mountain Lion so it is accessible to me in the App Store, but whenever I try to hit the Download button, I get a message saying this can't be done, since I am running Mavericks.
This bugs me, it should be obvious users needs the flexibility to swap whatever OSX version they need. It is still software.
So, how can I download but not install Mountain Lion on my newer MBP that came with preinstalled Mavericks?
I would like to see answers like:
"In order to get this to work, you first have to disable the locking mechanism in [...] " instead of "No, this is impossible to do"
    Regards

    Thanks for your reply Eric
Can't help wondering thought, people are ok with this?
Basically Apple are saying: "Do not attempt to install an older version of OSX which came preinstalled. If so, expect multiple failures." Really?! Has it always been so? For me it's not like I'm going to install Snow Leopard on my Late 2013 Retina MBP, but I would expect some form of backward compatibility between the previous version and it successor. Apparently this is not possible, and how is this even acceptable?
Personally, I am not going to downgrade, as if I had a choice, but I would and I expected however, the possibility to at least download the previous OSX version. What do you do if you have bought several applications, not necessarily online from App Store and buy yourself a new Mac with preinstalled Mavericks and after installing your "old" applications they fail to work properly? What do you do since downgrading apparently is not an option. So... again, what do you do?
If you don't have friends with an older Mac, you could be facing serious problems. And I'm not talking about gaming, but serious business.
I find this quite disturbing actually, and please tell me it's not so. There gotta be a way to do this?
I simply want to download the OS but I expect some registry values (like windows' registry) keeps preventing this.
It should be possible to simply download and not download and install in one operation, shouldn't it?
    Regards

    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
