How do I listen to just one album in a box set?

If I load a large box set of CDs into iTunes, I seem to have one of two choices for how to click 'play'.  One is to click the master play button, which starts the box set on CD1, track1.  The other is to click on one of the tracks in the box set - usually track1 if I want to hear that particular CD.  The problem is that neither of these options allows me to listen to one CD by itself - with iTunes stopping after the CD is finished.  It just rolls into the next CD and keeps playing.
Album view is cool in that it plays an album just like a CD - ie, iTunes stops after the album is done.
But the box set feature doesn't seem to allow this.  Wherever you click from, it will play through to the end of the box set.
Has anyone figured out how to play just one CD in iTunes when it's part of a large box set?

Thanks for the reply, Curt.  Sounds like you're aware of what I'm saying and that you're not aware of a way to do it either.  Yep, I know about changing the album name and then having all 40 different albums from a boxed set in album view, all with the same artwork.  That doesn't work for me.
I don't think boxset-view (or whatever we call it) is really effective unless there is both a master play button at the top of iTunes to play through the whole box ... AND dedicated play buttons next to each album - which will allow each album to be heard individually.
That, to me, is a common-sense feature that's long overdue.  I guess there are not enough boxset users for iTunes developers to make that a priority.
I was just asking if anyone knew how to do it ... some button I'm not aware of or something.

  • Can't listen to just one album.

When I have the normal CD album in iTunes, it stops playing when the album is finished.  It doesn't start playing the next album.
But if I have a box set of several CDs in iTunes in multi-album mode (with one album art for all six albums), then finishing one album causes iTunes to automatically start playing the next one.
I'm not using iTunes for background music.  I listen intently to whole albums and I want that experience of having an album play from beginning to end and then stopping.
I don't want to have to create a playlist for every multi-album box set CD I've got in iTunes.  Am I missing something?  Shouldn't I be able to play a single album without it then just moving into the next one?
The only solutions I've seen elsewhere is to create a playlist or to use only column view for selecting albums.  I'm really enamored with album art view and prefer to use stick with that.  Am I out of luck?  Can't imagine why Apple wouldn't program a button at each album in a multi-album box set so you can click that album and that album only ... not keep playing continuously.

How about trying the up next feature when playing your multi disc sets. Start play first track then select the rest of album and add to up next.
When you view what is on next up you can clear tracks that you do not wish to play after current album is complete. if you know which album you want to listen to next, you can add complete albun to up next.

A new album purchase downloaded each song as an individual album, each with its own album cover. How do I consolidate all songs under just one album cover like the rest of my library? How did this happen?

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.
BTW, are you really still using Windows 2000?

  • Downloading CD's created multiple groups of tracks.  How do I combine them into one album?

When I downloaded many of my albums into iTunes it broak the tracks down into multiple groupings, each with an album cover as though each group was a separate album.  How do I combine the multiple "albums" into just one album?

If you select the tracks all together in iTunes/ Songs then go to File/Get info you will be asked "Are you sure you want to edit information for multiple items?" Go ahead and you can make them into an album, putting in the artist name, etc.

  • How do I merge photos from one album to another on my iPad

How do I merge photos from one album to another.  How do I delete, remove albums.

If they are albums that you've synced from your computer then they are removed by re-connecting to your computer's iTunes, de-selecting them on the Photos tab, and re-syncing - albums and photos that you've synced can't be deleted (and albums can't be merged) directly on the iPad.
If they are albums that you've created directly on the iPad then you should be able to delete them on the iPad via the Edit button at the top left of the album selection screen. You can also copy more photos into (via the Edit button when within an album), and delete photos from, those albums.

Songs in my Itunes show up as separate folders.  How do I combine them into one album?

Is this one of those CDs where the main artist asks their friend to sing a song with them?
Such as, Slash's new album. Track 1 is "Slash Feat. Ian Astbury", track 2 is "Slash Feat. Ozzy Osbourne" and so on.
To fix this, select all the tracks on that album, right-click > Get Info, and say YES to changing multiple items.
Put "Slash" in the *Album Artist* field (for this example, of course).
Make sure it is the *Album Artist* field, not the plain Artist field.

Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

Pictures can appear in any number of albums.
To move from one album to another, add the picture to the new album and then right click on the picture, select Remove from album and then select the album you want to remove it from.

I have purchased and album and when it downloaded it came in the form of 16 separate single tracks how do I make this into one album ?

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entries, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

  • I have music files by the same artist but they are listed in itunes in more than one album hod can i add then to just one album pf that artist

I have music files by the same artist but they are listed in Itunes in more than one album hod can i add then to just one album of that artist I am using windows 8.1 .

iTunes will group songs into an album when:
All songs have the same value for the Album and Artist field, or
All songs have the same value for the Album and Album Artist field
All songs have the same value for the Albumfield and the Part of a Compilation flag is checked.
If you want to group all the songs by one artist into a single "album" you can do so by following one of these rules.  However, it may be more useful to create Playlists to group music like this and retain the original release information.  One Smart Playlist for each artist you're interested in would meet this need without over-writing information about the source albums.
