How do I listen to my home iTunes library at work via the Internet?

I know this question must have been asked before, and if so, I apologize; I did some digging and didn't find anything. I do know that if I could somehow find iTunes 4.0 to install on both my home and work Macs, that I could just access my home library at work over the Internet (though I've heard that could cause an entirely new set of problems). I also have heard that I can use Shoutcast + Audion to create my own music server and access it that way, but programming is not what I would call a strength of mine, and the Shoutcast download doesn't seem to come with the instructions I was looking for, and their site wasn't any help.
Basically, I'm wondering if anyone has a fairly straightforward way to access their iTunes library over the Internet. I supposedly have a dynamic IP at home (the would-be 'server') but I've found ways I can address that (no-ip.com, for instance), assuming my IP does actually change. Could I put my music in my Shared folder and access it that way? Sounds too easy a solution...
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The two biggest obstacles to doing this are your ISP, and your network admin at work. If you leave your computer on at home with iTunes running and you have set it to share, provided your own ISP will allow it, and your employer permits you to access your home IP address, you should be able to share the library. Most office networks won't allow outside system access though.

  • How do I Transfer songs from my iTunes library, without losing all the songs already on my iPhone?

I have an apple iPhone 3G, and got some songs from youtube to mp3 into my iTunes library. I don't want to lose all the songs already on my playlist even though I want to sync the songs to my iPhone. Also, it won't let me drag the songs to the little iPhone icon.

  • How do I send my unfinished Photo Book to my sister via the internet?

I want her to work on it and send it back to me?
Is there an easy way to export my work-in-progress to her Mac Pro and to have her send it back to me?
    Thanks,

If you can link or log on to her computer or her on to your over the internet then you could copy the library over. If you can reduce the library down as Larry mentioned you could try copying it between Macs.
If you have a .Mac account you can also copy the "book" library package to your Public folder and she could download from there at her leisure.
Just a though for future projects: I create a separate library for each new book I create and copy the files I need from my primary library to the book library with iPhoto Library Manager. This lets me keep the book library small and when I'm done with the book, it's ordered and received I can burn the library package to a DVD disk via the Finder to archive the book in case I want to order another copy at some later date. Tutorial #9a describes the process.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I just downloaded music in a .flac format.  how do i get that into my itunes library so i can listen to it on my iMac, iPhone and Sonos?

I just downloaded music in a .flac format.  how do i get that into my itunes library so i can listen to it on my iMac, iPhone and Sonos?

    Sneedham,
iTunes is not capable of playing songs in FLAC format.
To use the music in iTunes get a 3rd party converter such as Switch and create versions in an iTunes compatible audio format such as MP3, AAC, Wav or AIFF.
Keep the original FLACs on hand for times when you are using a more capable music player.

  • I bought the Hangover on my iPad. How do I get it into my itunes library?

While travelling I bought "The Hangover" film on my iPad. On getting home the "iTunes Extras" have downloaded into my iTunes library on my PC but there is no sign of the film itself. I have tried syncing the iPad with iTunes to no avail. I have tried "dragging and dropping the film from the ipda into the itunes library ... doesn't work. I cannot leave the film on my ipad forever and it does not appear to be held anywhere else. How do I get it into my itunes library? If not why not? If I delete it from my ipad do I then really have to buy it again?
This is all on the UK itunes store btw.

Connect the device, File > Transfer Purchases should do it. You have no automatic right to redownload the film (in the UK, yet) but if something goes wrong then it is always worth approaching the iTunes Store support team.. They have been known to reissue content in certain circumstances.

  • How can I transfer apps from one iTunes library to another?

How can I transfer apps from one iTunes library to another? My daughter has an iTouch, and I was managing it through my library. I have created an iTunes account for her, with a new iTouch, and would like to move the apps over. I tried to sync the old iTouch to the new library and it said it was already set up to sync with a different library. What is the best way to do this?

You can transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
To make the new computer the syncing computer you have to:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases lIke I described above
    - Make a backup of the iPod on that computer by connecting the iPod and then right-clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Back Up.
    - Restore the iPOd from that backup
She will have to continue to use your iTunes ID to update the apps prchased with your account. To use her account she will have to log into the computer with her account (iTunes>Store) and change the sign in on the iPod by going to Settings>Store.

Ah I see. That folder would only be there if you had perfomed the earlier steps in that section.

  • HT1660 How do i create 3 different libraries for 3 different users to sync to? How do each person sync to their iTunes library's? When we sync now, all three people sync to my library

How to create and sync to 3 different peoples libraries on the same pc?

You can open iTunes while holding the Option Key and "Create new library." You can then name them accordingly. You will need to go to iTunes presences > advanced and uncheck copy files to iTunes library and afterwards drag the iTunes media folder back into the newly created iTunes library.
After all new libraries are created, and the content added to it, you will be able to open iTunes while holding the Option Key down and "Choose Library" and swap between the separate libraries.
A better way maybe to create each user their own account with their own libraries. Either way would work.
    Hope that helps!

  • How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs

How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac? Thanks a lot. Carlo Molinari (Rome - Italy)

How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac?
The following are the basic steps to transfer your iTunes Media folder from your MacBook Pro to the Time Capsule (TC). Note: You will leave the iTunes Library, and its associated files, on the MacBook Pro as you will only be moving the media files.
Be sure to shutdown iTunes before starting.
Next, move the "iTunes Music" folder, located in ~/Music/iTunes/, to wherever you want on your TC's internal hard drive. Remember to leave the Album Artwork folder, as well as the three individual library files where they are on the MacBook Pro.
Wait a while. If you have a large library, this will take a bit of time.
Once the iTunes Media folder has been transferred, open iTunes. Note: It will still be looking at your local iTunes Library on the MBP. As such it will think that the iTunes Media folder is still on the MBP as well. However, we just relocated it to the TC. If you attempt to select any song, you will get an error that the song is "missing." Not to worry, we will correct this in the next step.
We need to tell iTunes the media has moved to the TC's internal HDD. To change where iTunes "looks" for the media, open iTunes and go to the Advanced > General tab and use the "Change..." button to tell it where your new "iTunes Music" library is located.
Once this is done iTunes will likely pop up a progress window telling you that it's re-analyzing your library. Let it complete this step.
As a final check to make sure everything when as planned, click on any library file from within iTunes and press cmd + i (or View > Get Info). At the bottom of the Summary tab in that window is a "Where:" section that tells you the actual file path to that piece of media; be sure that path begins with the name of your TC's drive, and not "Macintosh HD."

  • How do I get iTunes 11 to work as the old iTunes did in this respect: after playing a song in one playlist, I click on another playlist, highlight a song, press play, and get the result of that song playing & that playlist continuing?

How do I get iTunes 11 to work as the old iTunes did in this respect: after playing a song in one playlist, I click on another playlist, highlight a song, press play, and get the result of that song playing & that playlist continuing?  As it goes now, one clicks on the song in the new playlist where the arrow is and then chooses 'Play Song Next.'  So, it plays next, but then the song after that is back in the old playlist.  I want to use iTunes smoothly without the extra clicks I've had to do in order to get the playlist to continue.  This is music for background while I play the violin at restaurants, and extra clicks and hassle is quite unappreciated, especailly since it worked fine in the previous iTunes.
       Thanks.

At the top of the playlist where it shows the playlist title and the number of songs, there are two icons. Click the "play" triangle to add the entire playlist to "Up Next", or the "shuffle" symbol to do the same thing but in random order. But the currently playing track will stop playing, and all the songs in "Up Next" will be removed (replaced by the ones from this playlist).
If you hold down the "option" key while clicking those icons, the currently playing song will continue playing, and the new playlist will be added to "Up Next" (above the songs that were already there).
