How do I load MacOS 9.2 to my MacOS 10.4.6 only hard drive so I can run "Classic" programs?
I have the MacOS 9 install disk.

If your PowerBook shipped with a separate Mac OS 9 installation CD, insert it into your computer and restart with the C key held down. Once the CD has started up, double-click the icon of the hard disk and check whether the folder System:Library:CoreServices has a smiling Mac icon; if so, drag the item Finder onto the desktop. In either case, install Mac OS 9, and then select the Finder item if you moved it earlier and choose Put Away from the Special menu.
If your PowerBook did not ship with a separate Mac OS 9 CD, which is the default on a 12-inch PowerBook, use the computer's original disks to add the Classic environment.
A retail Mac OS 9 CD will not boot any PowerBook G4 except for the original model, which will run from the universal Mac OS 9.21 CD.

Or you can simply use the Restore option of Disk Utility to clone the drive to the backup:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive. -
I have iMovie 09. I just erased my external hard drive, but it is still formatted for the mac. However, iMovie will not recognize the hard drive. It shows the only hard drive available is the computers. How do I get the external hard drive to show up?
In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.

How can I move one years worth of raw photo files to a different hard drive (to manage space) and preserve the develope module edits and still see them in the Library module?
The easiest situation, is where this year's worth of images is grouped physically inside one parent folder (something many people build in from the start, in any case).
If there is a parent folder on disk, but you are not currently seeing that inside LR's Folders panel, you can make this visible to LR by right-clicking on one of the folders which live immediately inside that, and selecting "show parent folder". This gives you a single "handle" by which to manipulate the whole grouping.
Then it is just a matter of moving this parent folder. It's usually as simple as dragging it from one place to another inside LR's Folders panel, however this is a little more difficult when it's a question of another drive which does not yet appear there.
So an alternative method will likely prove more straightforward: physically move the whole year folder into the other drive using your operating system's Explorer/Finder. The folder (and subfolders, and all the contained images) will change with ? icons inside LR, and it all goes "offline". This is because LR's records of where everything is, are known not to currently work (the former location is now not available). But all the edits, thumbnails, keywords, collections etc are still in place because these things are still remembered in the Catalog - and the fullsize previews are still cached also.
Then right-click on the parent folder in LR's Folders (the top folder which shows a "?") and select Update Folder Location. Then browse to the other disk and identify where this folder is now to be found. LR updates all its records and the whole grouping carries on just as before, only using a new storage location for each image concerned. -

How can I relocate my music so it lives outside my computer in a hard drive? I'm running out of hard drive space.
The referenced article does not address the issue of just moving the music files outside my iMac, then still use my iMac and iTunes to manipulate those files without them adding bulk memory space to my iMac. Would like to have the link or alias, or path fully described so that I may keep adding more music. I lost my logic 8 pro serial number. I can't find the booklet that comes with the serial number. How can retrieve this? I upgraded from logic pro 7. I changed hard drives and now it keeps asking for the serial number. But I can't find it. Where can I request it? Thanks!

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.

How do I get all my music library from my iPad to iMac after hard drive replacement?
Recently my iMac hard drive crashed and was replaced with a new one. Thankfully the entire music library was still on my iPad. However, with the new hard drive, iTunes will only let me move over the purchased tracks from the iPad to the iMac. This is not good since most of our music was purchased on CD and loaded into iTunes. iTunes states that you can only sync with one computer and the iPad is showning a different library than my iMac. How do I fix this? Apple is holding my legally purchased music hostage!
No, they aren't holding it hostage. You are relying upon Apple to provide a service you should be doing by backing up your computer properly.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer is designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is purchased content.

How do I transfer all my files from a crashed mac to an external hard drive?
My computer started giving me troubles a week ago, and now it won't boot up at all. It just continually loads at the start up screen with the apple icon and loads for hours on end. I don't have access to another mac, but I bought an external hard drive a few days ago and I have no idea how to or if I can secure all my files.
Do you have your original install discs? Or start up discs for the OS version that is installed on your Mac?

I checked out my hard drive and found it is getting rather full. Disk Utilities gives me an overall picture of how much disk space is being used and how much remains, but I'd like to find out which individual files may be hogging space. The Finder window doesn't give that individual information. I can find out how much space each item takes by clicking info on each, but there must be a more efficient way of finding this information simply by clicking on folders.
Not free but this is one option.
