The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. It is not a backup device and media transfer is designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is purchased content.

I keep Itunes on my corporate PC and I just received a new PC after the old one crashed. I installed ITunes and connected my IPod Nano and was saw a window that indicated my Ipod was linked to a different library and I would like to change. Hi there, i've had my ipod for about a year now and am very happy with it, but there is a small problem. Due to a virus, i had to change my hardrive on my pc, meaning i lost all my itunes songs, except i remembered i still had my ipod with all the songs on it.
