How do I "lock" a pattern fill within a shape?

I want to stop my pattern fill from shifting within its shape. It (the pattern fill) seems to move when I send my file to another user to work on. I have tried "expand" but that, at times, changes the pattern fill entirely (lines get skinnier or fatter)! I am using CS2. Thanks.

It shouldn't move when someone else just opens the file. But when the object is copied to a different file, the pattern will most probably move. You can prevent it from moving in the same file when you check the option "Transform pattern" in the preferences.
Could you show an example of what's happening when you expand the pattern?

How to use Photoshop CC Pattern Fill

I have the latest version of Photoshop CC. When I go to Pattern Fill the box only shows me Contents, Blending. When I put in Patterns that is all I get. I do not get the bottom of the template that says Scripted Patterns. What am I doing wrong?

Change the blending mode on the gradient fill within a shape layer?

I can't seem to figure out how to do this, if it is possible. I have a shape layer with a gradient fill, that gradient fill layer needs to be set to multiply, by default its normal. can the be done with scripting?

Indeed it is not that easy to modify the blending mode.
The blending mode is property(1), or property("ADBE Vector Blend Mode"), of the gradient fill.
Normally the blending modes are listed in the BlendingMode object, and mutliply corresponds to BlendingMode.MULTIPLY
But it doesnt work for shape graphics: if you try myGradientFill.property(1).setValue(blendingMode.MULTIPLY); you are out of range.
The value to enter is actually the occurrence of the mode in the dropdownmenu, counting separators...
so
myGradientFill.property(1).setValue(4);

Printing pattern fills

i'm using illustrator cs2.
i am trying to print a pattern fill, and it won't print.
i realize something is corrupt, but how do i recreate the pattern fill without it having the same corruption issues?
i don't understand what corrupts the fills. i'm working locally, and i'm creating from scratch.
i delete all unused swatches, and still they won't print.
there don't seem to be any good answers out there.
HELP.

yes, if i expand it will print,
but for me, the point of the pattern fill is to reduce file size. and keep the file clean.
they become enormous.
2. Is it just one fill or do multiple fills refuse to print?
multiple -depending on the file.
3. What kind of printer are you using and how much RAM does it have?
Xerox Phaser 7700 GX ont sure how much RAM it has...how could i find out?
How much should I have?
4. Do the patterns export properly to a raster file such as TIF or JPEG?

I am running CC 2014.2.1 and I've updated to Yosemite. Not seeing tree or frame as an option in the menu. Coworker still on Mavericks has it.

How do I lock the information I've completed in a fill in form so I can send the form and know the info will not be changed.

How can I rotate a pattern within a shape?

To the left of the 1 key, right below the esc key. Has the ~ and ` on it.
That key has ° and ¨ on it on my keyboard and it doesn't work.
But I found it by holding down the < key (to the left of Z).
So now I can rotate etc. patterns manually after about 3 decades of doing it numerically through the dialogue :-)

How to distort pattern fill

I need to distort a pattern fill to put it in perspective (and scale) with the object that it is filling but all my atempts have failed so far. In this case (which is probably a very common one) I have a wall in perspective, filled with a brick pattern that I need to follow that perspective.
Can you please tell me if that is possible and how?

There is nothing wrong with the answer you received and the amount of time someone is on the forum is really irrelevant. The point is, someone took the time to try to help you.
I assume you are using AICS5. Mesh distortion had some bugs in 4.
As mentioned, the most realistic perspective is by using Object>Envelope Distort. Start with a pattern-filled object and choose Object>Envelope Distort>Make with Mesh. Use "1 column and 1 row". Make sure "Distort Pattern fills" is checked, in the Envelope Distortion options. Now use the "Free Distortion" tool and hold down "Shift-Option-Cmd" (Mac) while draging one of the corners. This will constrain the distortion to be centered and in perspective.

Patterns-how to browse them easily already filling in an area?

What's an easily way of browsing the patterns I currently have, but in a sense that they are already filled out on a large area so I can see the effect. So what I'm after is a way to ideally step through (single click) one pattern to the next, and see the effect it has as a pattern for a filled in area.
At the moment I see to have to keep going back to the Fill with Pattern for a given area and manally applying and then viewing. The only place I can find to see patterns is in the fill with pattern type dialog however (a) they are very small and (b) they are not tiled across an area so you can get a feel for what it will look like.

Try using a Pattern fill layer and changing the presets in the properties panel.

How do I move a pattern layer independent of its vector mask?

I've created a pattern fill layer and assigned a vector mask to it. How do I move the pattern around without affecting the mask? I realize if I want to rotate the pattern I'd need to convert it to a smart object, but if I only need to adjust the pattern location there must be some way to do that without moving the vector mask along with it. A traditional layer shows the vector and raster mask layer with a lock icon, but fill pattern layers are different for some reason. Can someone "fill" me in?

How can I get "distorted" gradient fills to copy & paste properly?

Here's the situation simplified: I create a document and draw a circle and fill it with a circular gradient fill. I then copy and paste that circle into a new document. It looks exactly the same, and importantly, the gradient fill is still editable, so I can change the colours making up the gradient, their positions on the gradient-slider, etc.
However, if I draw the circle in the first document, fill it with a circular gradient fill, and then I "distort" the gradient's shape to an oval shape, using the gradient tool — still keeping the circle itself as a circular shape (only the fill has changed shape) — and I then copy and paste this circle into a document, it does not get copied across properly as a "true" gradient fill.
At first glance, it looks the same. However, viewing the circle in Outline mode shows that the gradient fill has been expanded into 100s and 100s of flat solid coloured objects, each one laid on top of another, getting progressively smaller and smaller, and all masked in the original circle shape.
And of course, as the gradient fill has been expanded, it is no longer "live" and no longer editable, so I now can not edit its colours or positions on the gradient-slider, etc.
So, how can I make it so that Illustrator maintains and keeps the correct gradient fill when copying and pasting between documents? I've tried editing all the settings under Preferences > File Handling & Clipboard, but all without success.
At the moment, to overcome this "bug", I have to separate the two document windows by dragging its tab out of the main Illustrator window, so I now have two floating windows, rather than all windows tabbed in the one environment, and I then have to drag and drop the object from one window to the other. Slightly inconvenient, but it does get the job done.
Strangely enough, dragging and dropping DOES work, whereas copying and pasting does NOT. Weird.
However this slight inconvenience soon adds up when I have to do it many many many times over.
And it gets progressively worse, because dragging and dropping does not allow me to place the object in the position I want it, whereas with copying and pasting, I could ordinarily choose to "Paste In Front" to place my object exactly in the same position between the two documents.
In order to overcome this, I have to drag and drop to get the gradient fill across correctly, and then I have to copy and paste a non-filled duplicate version of the object to get it in precisely the same place, and then I have to use the alignment tools to get the two objects to line up. This = major inconvenience.
And all this becomes even worse when attempting to copy an Illustrator object into Photoshop as a Smart Object, because when I then double-click the Smart Object in Photoshop to edit it, the gradient fill has been expanded — because, obviously, the object had to have been copied and pasted to get it from Illustrator into Photoshop, and this is the problem that Illustrator seems to be having.

However, to go through what's been said since my last post...
I tried launching Illustrator in another user account on this machine, but it wouldn't even launch! I got some error number (which I don't recall offhand, but I can re-check it later).
To clarify, this is an official install of CS4 (so no pirating here!), and Illustrator was not running in my other main user account.
And the InDesign thing wouldn't apply to me, as I don't use that app at all. I do invariably have a couple of other CS4 apps running though, usually always Photoshop and Bridge.
I CAN understand how copying and pasting from Illustrator to InDesign would cause this though, because InDesign doesn't support live editable gradients to the same advanced degree that Illustrator does, so it has to expand it when doing so, thereby losing its editability.
Copying and pasting whilst staying completely within Illustrator though is a different story.
You know what — I just had a thought... What if this is nothing to do with Illustrator, but is instead something to do with my Mac OS's system-level clipboard?
I actually had a 3rd-party multiple-item clipboard item installed some time ago, but then never used it. Maybe there's still remnants of that floating around and that's interfering with it somehow?
I'll see if I can clear out all traces of it and see if it makes a difference... Fingers crossed!

How do I lock cells in Numbers? I'm trying to create a spread sheet that will have unused cells and I want to lock them so my associates don't accidentally fill them in and cause the finished product to look muddled.

I previously could lock tables in my Numbers tables in my Spreadsheets by tapping the top left corner and it would show up as an option to lock it. As of Numbers 2.0 (noticed today), I get the option to unlock tables, but not to relock them after making the corrections.
Any thoughts?

Exporting pattern fills to SWF

Hi all,
We came across an interesting issue at my job.
We generate images in Illustrator CS3, for use for print and online formats. For some of the online formats, we export SWFs, to use in some interactive Flash files (CS3). When we export images that have a pattern fill, Flash tends to rasterize it upon import, which makes it blurry and awful. We'd like to keep them crisp vectors.
I have already checked the AI Importer settings in Flash, and those are set to not rasterize images.
One of our illustrators came up with a workaround, but it is somewhat labor-intensive. It involves expanding the pattern-filled object, making the resulting paths from the pattern into a compound path, and then using the pathfinder palette's intersection between the new compound path and the original outline of the fill.
It works, but as I said, it's fairly labor-intensive, and we are having to do this to individual fills one at a time, because the operations involved are somewhat fussy. The main area where we are running into this issue is with some grayscale maps, where pattern fills are used as colors for some of the territories.
1) Is CS5 any better with exporting these kinds of fills to Flash?
2) Does anyone have a better solution for converting these to SWFs?

Not that I know. Inherent limitation in how differently this stuff works between the two apps.

You could build a symbol/ pattern library in Flash and assign rthe fills there., could you not?

How do I lock some form fields, but not all?

How do I create a form with interactive form fields where certain fields can be locked after being filled in, and others remain unlocked so the customer can interact with it?
My workflow looks like this:
I created a PDF with open form fields for my client to distribute to their salesmen.
Salesmen receive a call, fill in the information gathered. (name, address, services, price quotes, etc)
Salesmen email the pdf form to the customer. All fields that they filled in now need to be non-editable, EXCEPT an "I agree" checkbox and a signature line.
Help is greatly appreciated!

Before I go too deep into a suggestion, I need to know if you are using electronic digital signatures for signing the document? Or, are you expecting the customer to print the document, sign it with a pen and fax it back? The reason I ask is you could use digital signatures to lock specific parts of the document, but if you're not using them I won't bore you with the details.
