There have been MANY discussions in http://forums.adobe.com/community/general/forum_comments?view=discussi ons about login problems
You obviously DID login to post a question here, and you HAVE in the past (as of this writing, you have 24 messages posted) so just keep trying

  • How do I Log In and Out?

Obviously, I was able to Log In but that was by clicking around and also following Ali B's advice to delete my Apple cookies. I'm not sure if that was the fix or that I found a Login page elsewhere.
Also, as you can see, I'm not a newbie to the Discussions Forum, so that's not the problem.
On the right side of the screen, there is a box saying "Welcome, Lauren Hutton." Under that there are 7 options. If I click "Logout," I am redirected to a page saying something like: "Sorry, the page you requested doesn't exist." Earlier today, when I hit "Login" I received the same "Sorry" redirect. I ended up changing my password but I don't think that was the problem.
Has something changed in the way to Login into "Discussions?" Or does it have anything to do with the change to Safari 5? How do I get directly to the Discussions Login page?
New topic: This should be a separate post but I didn't want to chance not being able to start it.
How do I choose where to post a question? I have found similar questions in many different areas. For example, if you have a problem with connecting a printer to a wireless network, you will find answers in MacBook Pro, AirPort, OSX 10.6 plus a few more places. I know you discourage duplicating a post, but how else can you get the best and fastest answer?

    Hi Lauren,
There were some issues with the Discussions recently that have now been resolved.
These seem to centre around various categories appearing in other categories.
iChat was showing up in the iDVD section. Podacsts made an appearance in the Lounge. Many more were also listed. I understand Search was also effected.
It may have been the Logout link was part of this, But I have just tried it and the Log out works.

If you can spend a bit of time considering where to post it can help.
If an Issue appears in All Users Accounts then I would tend to go to either any App Specific Forum or to the relevant "Using ... (OS level here) Forum.
Using your example the more testing you can do the better as well.
For instance if a Printer works by USB but not Wirelessly or when connected to Base Station then the Airport Forums are more likely to be the best bet.
If it seems more to do with the set up screen in System Preferences then back to the Using ... Forums.
More often than not a Forum has one or two if not more regulars and if they think you may benefit from Posting somewhere else they will let you know. In some cases they may even ask the Hosts more your post.
As you point out there can be many ways to the answer so it not an absolute must to get it in the right place.
    Other Quirks
On the main page there is an iChat AV category that contains the iChat 2.1 and earlier forum as well as the iChat 3 forums.
iChat 4's in in the Leopard Category and iChat 5's is in the Snow Leopard Category.
In that sense the Boards don't help themselves
It's not perfect. Regulars are aware of this and everyone will help (and cope).
You could always start... "I am posting here because of the Testing and attempts I have made so far to solve this..." Or "If someone feels this should be somewhere else could they say or even ask the Host to Move it please"

  • How to find out logs related to which server, If i have 2 WFE's in the farm. How to configure logs path?

    Hi,
I got this doubt, when searching logs on the servers. I have 2 WFE's in my farm, I got an error from enduser. So in which WFE server i need to check the logs.
How to configure logs path. Is it is possible to specify logs path on our own instead of 14 hive folder.
    Badri

That is a really bad idea, especially with idle disconnects and other unreliability of CIFS.
You should instead check out the command
Merge-SPLogFiles which will allow you to combine ULS logs from multiple servers into a single file.
You can certainly specify your own path, but the path must be available on all servers. For example, if you specified D:\Logs, D:\Logs must exist on all SharePoint servers within the farm.

  • How do you find what you posted to the support forum?

Last night I posted a question about Firefox being unable to load certain https URLs, but now I can't find it. I would like to be able to find it to see if anyone has made any helpful replies. In the forum settings, I have the following checkboxes:
    Watch forum threads I start:
Watch forum threads I comment in:
Watch KB discussion threads I start:
Watch KB discussion threads I comment in:
    Send emails for private messages:
All of the above settings are checked, but I can't find where in the interface for these forums I should go to view the threads and comments that I am "watching."
I will bookmark this present support topic so that I can return to it later.
thank you for any help you can provide!

ha ha ha oh my god...
okay, thank you for the help... I see what the problem is... this web site's UI has a shortcoming...
    this URL:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/home
appears to be the home page of the forums... but it is not....
the home page of the forums is buried in a link off to the side in a list labeled "For Contributors"... I mean... by seeking help in the forums, I'm now a "contributor"? ehhh... English... It'd be nice if the UI designers would use it...
the home page to the forums is found via this URL:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions
See... whoever named that URL had the right idea... instead of
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/contributors , the person used:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions
hmmm.... now if the heading on the right said:
    "For people with questions"
then I would have scanned it more closely, and I would have noticed "Support Forum Home" in the list.
I think the fact that so many people use Firefox is really a testament to how bad the other software out there really is, not to how good the Firefox stuff is or how responsive the firefox people are... E.g. is anyone going to actually learn from my above experience, and make the support forums easier to find?
Is anyone going to actually put a link to the forums in the dashboard for the account that is used to log into the forums?
    No, not a chance...
I mean, yes, I get that the link to the forums home page is always in the footer at the right, but come on, for crying out loud... so are stupid advertisements... it's a footer or side bar or whatever you want to call it... people are trained on a subconscious level, by now, to ignore that crap. If you were going to design a forum, would you take the most important links, and put them off to the side, where they are less likely to be noticed?
This is what I see when I bring up my dashboard:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/user/630258
I mean, if you are a small time developer, with a few thousand users, you probably don't have the time or the resources to make something that's optimal... but when you have millions upon millions of users... optimizing your interface might be worth looking into.... you know... auditing the performance and effectiveness of your UI now and again might be a good idea... You take the few minutes that you waste a user with a confusing counter-intuitive non-standards-based interface, and you multiply that by millions of users, and what can I say... that's a *lot* of waste.
You don't even have an index of forum content... everything is found by searching... Imagine if you walked into a library, and they had NO catalog.. Instead, all books just tossed into a database, and the only way to find anything is by searching. That would be... just incredibly stupid.... That is what this forum interface is.

  • How start XA log in Oracle Server 8.1.7

I'd like to activate Oracle Server XA log while using Oracle 8.1.7 oci

Oracle Documentation states that you must add in the openinfo string of

  • How do I get to my posting?

I posted a question the other day. When I went to open it after logging in, it said "Error. You do not have permission.......". Then I went to "My Questions" and found my posting under "Unaswered Questions". It was under "Administration>Duplicate Posts". When I clicked on this, I got another error message which read: "Error: you do not have permission to view the requested forum or category."
I cannot find any Adminstration categories. How do I get into my posting to see the replies?

Probably just a one-time glitch. Posting to this forum was exactly the right thing to do. If you are having a problem that requires intervention, one of the Hosts will read your post and act on it.

  • Why use P2 technology - how do you log?

Can anyone explain to me why they use P2 technology? When we shoot our DVCAM footage, we log in FCP on a Powerbook, we mark all the good takes, then digitize based on what we've already seen. We don't need to re-log everything in the edit suite, we just start cutting with known good footage. Scene numbers, take numbers are already entered, and we're ready to go.
With P2, you record your footage, wait 8-10 minutes to copy the files to your laptop, then import the clips, with no markings; you don't know what the good takes are, you don't have any scene or take references, or useful in or out points. These all need to be added in FCP or P2 Log. You have to review all of the footage you've shot again, decide if the take is good or not (which can be fun if you've had 7 or 8 takes and it turns out take 5 was the 'good' one). This strikes me as an incredible waste of time, something we don't have the luxury of with ever shrinking budgets. I expect you have to keep some kind of paper log, (welcome to the 1980's) with an unpredictable file naming system, so that you know what you have when you're ready to post.
So is this really a good solution? Yes, you don't have to digitize. But you do have to log everything, which is very simple as you shoot in FCP, but you can't merge the P2 footage with a log kept in P2 Log or in FCP. Which brings me to my question: Can you create a log for P2 footage as you shoot, that can be brought into FCP without having to review the footage again or do a lot of post production typing?
To me, this is the Achilles heel of P2 production. Anyone have any thoughts? We don't shoot a frame without a scene number and tape number, we shoot 50 good shots a day from about 150 takes per day, and at about 60 days a year, we need to keep track of what we shoot as we go. I estimate at least a 1/2 day of logging for every day of shooting with the P2, and frankly, I don't have 30 working days in my year to create logs that I can easily make while we shoot.
P2, on the surface, looks great. But P2 and any direct to disk technology, to me, looks like a big step backwards in terms of workflow.
    Fire away, folks.
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Non-linear since 1994

As the editor of the productions I work on, I am never on set. And I and the producer prefer it that way. This way I come in with an objective point of view, does the shot work or not. I am not clouded by how much time and effort went into getting the shot, I just look at it afterwards and judge it by its value. So we never log on the set. We simply back up.
You do all this work on the set. We don't, we do it in post, so there isn't twice the amount of work...it is just done later. This is true of every production I have worked on...documentary, narrative TV, short film. We aren't in the field logging and capturing...that is done later. But it is still done. We also slate our footage, and if someone is on the set to do so, they act as Script Supervisor and mark the good and bad takes. So when I look at the footage in the P2 import window on FCP 5.1.2, I can take the good but not the bad. But...I am always in favor of getting everything, because even though a take might be bad, it might contain something good that I can use.
With P2, you record your footage, wait 8-10 minutes to copy the files to your laptop, then import the clips, with no markings; you don't know what the good takes are, you don't have any scene or take references, or useful in or out points. These all need to be added in FCP or P2 Log. You have to review all of the footage you've shot again,
Again, we slate in the field. Yes, the clips come in with odd names, but when you capture a tape there is no INSTANT name associated with that. You have to give it a name...as you import. You can do the same with FCP and P2, as you import give it a name, scene, take...mark it good. And again, we aren't reviewing the footage AGAIN...it is done for the first time in post. They may review it in the field with the P2 viewer to ensure it looks good, just like on any film production with a DVCAM deck recording thru the camera viewfinder or rewinding the camera tapes.
So is this really a good solution?
Works rather well for me. No problems whatsoever...except when I first started doing this and put ALL the imported P2 clips into one bin. 2000 clips. I'll never make that mistake again. I separate footage by card much like I make Dailies bins with tapes.
    http://lfhd.blogspot.com/2007/01/organizing-my-p2-media.html
But you do have to log everything, which is very simple as you shoot in FCP,
You said that you log everything...in the field. I am logging everything in post. Still have to log. And, how do you "shoot in FCP?" That is a non-linear edit, not a camera. What do you mean by this? I guess I don't get how you are logging in the field without having to log. You are still taking the time to log and name the footage...so you lost me here.
Can you create a log for P2 footage as you shoot, that can be brought into FCP without having to review the footage again or do a lot of post production typing?
Not that I know of. Achilles heel? I suppose if you look at it from the point of view of your current workflow. But you have to realize that it ISN'T your typical tape workflow. Stop trying to make it work like a tape workflow. Square peg in circular hole. Same thing happened when people switched from Film to Tape...the workflows they were accustomed to didn't work...they had to devise new ones.
You are going to have to figure out a new way of doing things...or just not shoot with the HVX. It is a very different way of doing things, but production can be pretty slick if you work out a system. I have a system and it works great. If you don't like it, don't use it. Grab an HDV camera and struggle with THAT format.
P2, on the surface, looks great. But P2 and any direct to disk technology, to me, looks like a big step backwards in terms of workflow.
Tell that to David Fincher's crew on ZODIAK. Not one tape or scrap of film in that production...all digital.
If the tapeless workflow doesn't work for you...don't use it. Easy decision.
Click on Underdog for my experiences with the format. Start from the beginning and see how I progressed if you'd like.

  • How long redo logs keep the transactions?

I learn Oracle and decide to do an experiment. There was a table in the test database. I deleted the file that contained this table via OS. And then I added transactions to this table.
I did 'insert' several times, then 'commit', then 'alter system switch logfile' several times, 'alter system flush buffer_cache', 'alter system flush shared_pool' and nothing happened. I could add and take data from this table successfully. Alert log showed the error only when I shutdown the database.
    SQL> shutdown immediate

    Additional information: 3
I understand that transactions are put in the redo logs at first, and then are transferred to the datafile on disk. I thought that command 'ALTER SYSTEM CHECKPOINT' writes transactions from redo logs to datafile on disk, but I was wrong. How long redo logs keep transactions? Is there the way to push data from redo logs to datafile?
    I use Oracle 10.2.0.1.0.

i believe this time you will see the error message during your SQLsWRONG!probably you did not read the complete post of mine before saying WRONG. You tell me, if data file containing a table is deleted at OS level (in *nix), and then you try to insert data in this table and want to retrieve the data from the table (If data is not in db cache or cache has been flushed), from where data will come? Or if you want to insert some data into this table for which new extent are required to be allocated, where it will be allocated? Will your SQLs succeed or will return some error? Either SQL should return you data (which is not possible as data file is no there to fetch the data), or SQL should fail with some error message.
I mimicked the situation on IBM AIX, following is the outcome.

The first means something is missing, most likely on an external HD.
If the other two were sent at the same time, they're probably all related to a video capture problem.
Many of the messages you'll see in your logs don't indicate a real problem -- they'll be status messages, info for developers, etc., so don't try to figure out every message you see.
If you see the same message repeated over and over (as the MacKeeper ones probably did), that's clearly a problem, of course.
If you're having specific problems, but not getting messages on your screen, check for log messages that seem related (ie, sent at the same time, and/or from a process you recognize as being related).  See the blue box in OSX Log Files for help deciphering the messages.  If you're not sure about what a particular process does, many of the names of Apple processes are listed here: http://triviaware.com/macprocess/all with a brief explanation.
For other processes, or other references, Google will often turn up some info.
If none of that helps, post a new thread for each such problem, with as much detail as you can about what you were doing and what kind of difficulty you were having, and, of course, the message(s) that seem related.
Try to post them in the appropriate forum; if you're having a problem with a specific Apple app, there may be a forum for that app, where folks who know it well hang out.
