How do I lower the brightnes of my desktop environment?

I know there is asked before about setting the brightness but I didn't find a nice answer. Maibe there is none. But if there is I'd like to know in simple steps what I'm supposed to do... I can hardly look at my screen so bright... hurts my eyes...
I'm running the compaq 6710b with intel x3100 with the xf86-video-intel driver...
Both the function keys and the Gnome/Xfce4 brightness editors don't work. The screen flickers for a moment but stays bright. Outside X everything is working ok.
The Ati Catalyst control panel sais there there is no Ati driver installed, or it isn't working properly. Well I have a intel chip... so don't understand why I would need the Ati control panel... but somehow an ati driver (fglrx) is installed and Xorg -configure doesn't give an error loading it so i figured that isn't the problem. Also solutions which say I should puke with the acpi-> brightness file don't help me couse I did't find a brightness file in the acpi folder.
Hope anyone knows something, you guys helped me a lot allready today

Ok, so with help of this topic:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=38871
I found a way to set the brightness automatically at boot. I made a text file containing:
#!/bin/sh
exec xbacklight -set 50
Made it executable with:
chmod +x <filename>
(or by hand using right mouse button ->properties->access...advanced..etc)
and than copied it into the /home/<username>/.kde/Autostart folder
Now when I start kde a little after the bootsplash the brightness dims to 50%
... oh what a relief!

I recently videotaped a birthday party. I recorded "shout-outs" , however the DJ music is pumping in the background. How do I lower the music in the background editing with fce4?
    Thank you

Basically, you can't.  There are no adjustments or filters in FCE that could separate the music from the 'shout-outs' and enable you to lower the music and/or raise the voice.
You could attempt a workaround by using noise reduction with a plugin like WaveArts MR Noise but that may or may not work since music isn't a constant type of noise.  However, you can download a fully-functional demo to test whether or not it would help.

Eliminate a Wifi issue by connecting a Ethernet cable directly to your router or modem (power off/on)
If your still having beachball issues, what I suspect has occured (which a lot of people mistakenly do) is the hard drive got sectors damaged when the computer was moved/bumped while it was in operation.
The fix for this (and anything else) is rather drastic, all user data off the Macintosh HD will have to be removed, the entire partition Disk Utility > Erase with Secure Zero (or middle selection option), OS X reinstalled and updated, programs reinstalled and files returned.
If one has a previous uneffected bootable clone or TimeMachine backup that can be used to restore.

No problem at all with extending the life of your toner!! Have you tried the advanced options in the printer preferences? Try checking here:
    1.Open Printers and Faxes
2.Right-click the icon for the printer you are using, and then click Printing Preferences.
3.Click Advanced, and under Graphic, click Print Quality.
4.Click the resolution option you want.
Let me know if this is what you are looking for. Good luck!

How do I transfer the songs from my desktop to my iPad using the same iTunes account? I can only sync the other way. Thanks

    DaisyDoodle,
The songs on your Shuffle should still be in your iTunes library.  That means you should just be able to connect your Nano to the same iTunes library and sync it just as you would with your Shuffle. There is no limit to the number of iPods, iPads, or iPhones you can sync to one computer, iTunes library, or account.
As for preparing the Shuffle for your husband, just restore it via iTunes and then let him sync it to his own iTunes library or if its the same iTunes library, let him configure it to sync only his content.
Here are instructions on how to restore the Shuffle if need be.

How do I install the Adobe PDF Pack desktop printer?

If you’re running the standalone version of FM, then the “headless” Acrobat comes with it; reinstall FM to repair that part. However, if you already had a full version of Acrobat installed, the FM installer may have screwed it up – you’ll have to uninstall all Acrobat(s) and reinstall.

  • NEED HELP - how do i lower the burn rate to 1x in DVD Studio Pro 4

Ok, i made a (2) master copies of a DVD-R (Verbatim) in Studio Pro 4 and sent it to a duplicator and I got a call saying there was unreadable data on the discs.
He then asked me to lower the burn rate to 1x. I can't figure out how to do that. Where do I do that? Please help. Have a deadline!!!
    Thanks.

    Dave
You cannot change the burning speed in DVDSP. It will always use the max speed available. To control the burning speed you need to create a disc image of your project and burn it with Disk Utility or Toast.
Read this tutorial about * Creating Disc Image in DVDSP *.
    Hope that helps !

  • How can you lower the number of days in IOS8 iPhotos deleted

In IOS8 photos deleted stay for 30 days. Can you lower the number of days?

To answer your Subject (rather than the body of your post)
To get the number of controls, and refs to each, etc, you can combine a
couple of example VIs and a little index finger grease to make a VI that
    does what you want:
    Help menu >> Find Examples
    Find Example Dialog >>Browse tab
    Programmatically controlling VIs
    Manipulating Applications and VI settings
    Edit Multiple VI Setups.vi
    New Examples for LabVIEW 6.1
    Queues
    Queue Control Seek.vi
If these two VIs are put in a mixer and shaken (not stirred) you might come
up with something that tastes write.

  • How do I lower the burn speed?

Using strictly the apple Disc utility, how do I control the burn speed?

I just went through this this week as I'm new to iDVD. When you're in Disk Utility and go to burn it, there is a drop down next to the drive that the disk is in. I think it lists the drive, I'm not in front of my Mac now. Click on that, and you will then see the option to change the drive speed.
I just did this for the first time last night and am finally getting clean DVD burns. Before I just let iDVD do the whole thing from render to burn and the playback kept hanging up on the DVD player. Going at 1x's seems to have corrected it for me.

  • How do I lower the saturation on my W520, the reds are burning into my eyes

OK, stupid question, I know, but is there any way to lower the saturation without lowering brightness? The colors are too saturated at brightness 14 and 15.

Windows 7 itself does indeed have system-wide color profiles. You just need to get a proper ICM file.
If you have the Intel control panel load at startup, it overrides any ICM profiles at boot/resume for whatever reason.
Hit Start and search for "Advanced color management". Go to the Advanced tab, hit Change System Defaults.
First add your ICM under All profiles. Then add it under Devices. Delete all other entries in Devices, and set your desired profile to default. You should see a change instantly. If not, go to the Advanced tab and check Use Windows display calibration.

  • How do you make the toolbar larger, mac desktop?

Can anyone tell me how to make my toolbar, at the top of the display, larger? it is very tiny. I'm visually impaired. there doesn't seem to be any accessability program on the mac. I'm used to a full accessability program on windows can anyone help me reprogram the display. meaning specifically the font. we did it before on our ancient mac.. thanks for your help.

You would have to lower the display resolution to increase the size of the screen menubar. Some system fonts can be changed using TinkerTool. Other tools you can use are found in the Accessibility preferences.
