How do I make 16:9 quicktime movies of footage shot & edited in widescreen

I just finished editing a project that was shot in Widescreen. I want to export a 30 second clip from it to put in a DVD SP menu Drop Zone
When I go to File --- Export ---- Current Settings I export it and it makes a quicktime movie. No problem.
When I open up that file using QT on my desktop, it is still in 4:3 mode.
When I put that quicktime into DVD SP menu that is 16:9, it plays in 4:3 mode.
How can I make a Quicktime Movie that is widescreen, plays in Quicktime Widescreen, and when I bring it into DVD SP plays Widescreen in a Drop Zone of a menu that is widescreen.
Thanks in advance

You can either make the dimensions of your export 16:9 or export an anamorphic 4:3 qt and make sure the anamorphic flag is turned on for the qt. Not sure how consistent fcp is in doing this, but you can always open the exported qt in qtplayer and change the display aspect ratio.

Is there any software that easily takes a bunch of photos and makes them into a 3D QuickTime movie?
Way back in 1997 there was a QTVR Authoring Suite that does such a thing.
Here is an example of what I am trying to create:

If you plan to do this regularly, VRWorx is probably your best option. If you want to create "cubic" movies (i.e. where you can look straight up and straight down), you'll want to confirm that VRWorx can create them. I believe it can, but I'm not certain.
If you don't want to pay that much for a tool, Apple provided some free tools at one time, but they're pretty old now. They might still work for you, though.

How do I make a slow  spinning movement so character and scene turns upside down?
    It's for a dream sequence.

The better method (I feel) is to rotate the camera when shooting.
Certainly that is better. However, I don't have a way to do that, so I imagine that most people don't either. I can turn my tripod's head on its side, but upside down? Not so easy.
Having said that, there are camera cages designed to do that.
It is true that my way doesn't fill the frame so one way to handle that is to do it on a copy of the video on a higher track, and blur the heck out of the original to keep the frame filled. Some amount of blur is often associated with dream sequences.

  • How do I prepare a FCP Quicktime movie for iDVD?

Hi out there, can someone please explaine in detail what I have to do to a FCP Quicktime movie to prepare it for iDVD. Its 12 minutes long and 4.8GB. I tried putting it as is into iDVD and burning a DVD and the quality was bad. Do I have to put it through Compressor? Or, should I make a different kind of Quicktime movie?

Compressor is a program and you want to use it to convert your movie into an mpeg file and an ac3 file. 2 files to drop into your DVD program. Now, I haven't used iDVD so i don't know what it's asking for but. DVDSP is really easy to use if you just wan tto make a DVD without a menu. this requires an mpeg2 file and ac3. this you can make in compressor. in FCP have your timeline with your sequence in it active. FILE>EXPORT>USING COMPRESSOR. in compressor you can use the DVD 90 minute setting to make these two files. you have to check the manual cause it's different on how to do this with diff versions.
once you have your files drop them in DVD SP asset box then drag them in the timeline. delete the menue blue box right click the green track box, select 'first play' build/burn button at the top and you're on your way.
sorry if this seems confusing, but dvd technology is funky. idvd is great for making easy template menus but if you want to just make a playable dvd wihtout menus, DVD SP is the way to go.

  • How to put dvd project into quicktime movie?

I am doing some slideshows in iPhoto and in iDVD and want to get them into iTunes. Some I have been able to drag and drop into itunes but some will not work that way. Some show the green + sign but do not copy. I have tried to import  to itunes and that does not work. From what I have read it looks like I need to convert to quicktime movie first but I have not been able to find anything that works to find how to do that. Please help.

iDVD encodes your projects for burning to a DVD and that is it; however, iMovie can share to a variety of places (online) and to iTunes. FWIW, your movie is in a quicktime format before you get it into iDVD - it is formatted there as an mpeg-2 (I believe) which is the standard for video on DVDs  to be played in DVD players.
So, why don't you use iMovie? It is a lot better than iPhoto; if you wish to use iPhoto, make your slideshow there and then import into iMovie.

  • How many times can you "Export - Quicktime movie" the same ProRes 422 file until it starts to lose quality?

Lets say you are done with your project & you want an uncompressed copy of it as your master. If you keep importing it back into Final Cut Pro, & keep exporting (Quicktime movie), will it ever start to lose quality?

I've never seen a number given, but would think it is very high.
    Apple describes ProRes here:
    About Apple ProRes
    And in that document says:
"while remaining visually lossless through many generations of decoding and reencoding."
I don't think I've ever seen degradation caused by recompression or multiple compassion, but as a workflow if you output a master file, then re-import it to add graphics and export that, you would only be 1 generation down from the master file. If you wanted to make multiple versions, you can always go back to, and re-import,  the master file and make the changes, then export, so all you exports stay only 1 generation down from the master file.

  • Make a Reference Quicktime Movie using QuickTime API for windows?

    Hi all,
Does anyone know how to generate or modify a QuickTime Reference file?
I try to generate a QuickTime reference file (.mov) that will point to external video clip Avid OpAtom such as
    \Avid MediaFIles\MXF\V1.mxf,
    \Avid MediaFIles\MXF\A1.mxf,
    \Avid MediaFIles\MXF\A2.mxf.
I can use Avid News Cutter (NLE) to export a Quicktime reference mov file that point to external OpAtom mxf files.
    My questions are:
    1. How can I use QuickTime API to generate the same QT reference?
    2. Can we use QuickTime API to parse or modify the Avid Generated QT reference file?
If I want to change the referenced external video source location info can we use QT API to do that?
    3. I have tried John Cromie's "QuickTime for .Net and Com Developers" using AxQTControl1.URL to parse a QT reference file, however, I can't find out where the external source clip location info in this object!!
    4. I have tried Legacywindowsqttools Dunpster but still can't parse the location info.
Does anyone know where the external source clip location info hide in QT API object?

Insert a Shape and re-size & position it to cover the movie. In the Inspector > Graphic tab, set the Opacity of the Shape to 0%. Then hyperlink that transparent Shape.

  • How to export still frame from Quicktime movie?

    Hello folks
I often need to use a still frame from a quicktime movie as an image file to work with in PhotoShop for windows.
If I export a frame via the export command and choose "Movie to picture" I end up with a .pct file, that Photoshop will not open.
I can open the .pct file with the Quicktime PictureViewer and then export it from that app as i.e. a JPEG-file, but I would like to avoid that extra step and just export a usable file straight from QT.
Anybody know how that can be done?
    Best regards
    Kris

Same problem here - no matter whether I choose Photo - JPEG or PNG format as the "compressor", QT 7 Pro wants to save with a .pct extension, and changing it to .jpg or .png extension fails to open.
The two workarounds I've found are:
    1. Save it in Photo - JPEG or PNG format with a .pct extension, open with Photoshop CS4 or below, save to desired format.
One may be able to accomplish the same using Preview instead of Photoshop, but on my Snow Leopard machine I get the error "The PICT file format is not supported in 64-bit mode. Try selecting "Open in 32 Bit Mode" in the Finder's info window for Preview." and I don't feel like bothering to do this.
    2. Use Grab to take a screenshot, copy into Preview, crop as necessary and save to desired format.
Which is easier depends on whether you feel like having to do precision cropping or not. Totally agree with above commenters - whither PICT, Apple?

  • How to extract MP3 soundtrack from QuickTime "movie"?

This is probably an elementary question, but I haven't been able to figure it out: I have several QuickTime "movies" (.mov files) that are actually nothing but MP3 soundtracks; when I played them on the Web, they opened in Safari with a QuickTime player, from which I saved them to my computer. When I look at the file's "properties" in QT, there is only the MP3 file plus a QT "wrapper". I'd like to extract the MP3 file, and throw away the wrapper, so I'd have an MP3 file like any other. "Save As" will save the whole thing with another name, while "Export" offers to create sound files as AIFF, AU or WAV, but no way to just pull out the MP3. Is there some way to do this?

+What is the reason you need to make it .mp3?+
No special reason, just compulsive tidiness; since it isn't really a movie but an MP3 file anyway, I'd like to get rid of the .mov "wrapper".
+QuickTime Player Pro was never licensed to export to the .mp3 file extension.+
Well, "export" isn't what I'm looking for; I just want to remove the superfluous wrapper.
+It appears now that only an AAC conversion can be done.+
The "Create XXX Version" command changes according to what you have set in Preferences: CD Import Settings, I believe. But again, I don't want to re-encode it or export it, just take the wrapper off the MP3 file that's already there. I did a Google search but found nothing; apparently there's no way to do it, which seems odd.
    Anyway, thanks.

  • How do you make an video/image move or grow in size on screen?

I'm trying to make my video clip move from one side of the screen to the next, please help.

Double-click on the clip in the Timeline to load it into the Viewer. Click on the Motion tab and use the controls in the 'Basic Motion' section. Set a beginning keyframe for each control that you want to change over the duration, then reposition the playhead and make the adjustment(s) - new keyframes will be created if they differ from the initial keyframes you set.
It's even easier if you set the Canvas window to Image+Wireframe and manually scale, rotate and center the image.
This is pretty basic stuff and you should find plenty of information on how to perform these types of effects in the user's manual/help files. For much more comprehensive instructions, pick up a copy of Kevin Monahan's book "Motion Graphics and Effects in Final Cut Pro"

  • How can I make my short quicktime open and play online in a

    Hello,
Whatever size my quicktime file is when I post the .mov online it always shows up playing from a browser (Safari, Explorer or Firefox) in a small window.
If like it to play in a large size....
I know some trailers on Apple.com do this...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you.

QuickTime movies do not have to play back in a browser window. The option (and burden) is on the html author. With clever use of special html "tags" the author can present the file using the QuickTime Player application (target="quicktimeplayer") or at a size other than the movies actual dimensions (scale="tofit"). More info about tags here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61011
As a general rule the larger the dimensions of the movie the larger the file size. Larger files take longer to download and may require the viewer to be very patient or have high speed Internet connection (less than half of the viewers).
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/64
One of my (only 220KB's) QuickTime "movies" that uses these special tags to play "full screen". Take a look at the html code to see how it's done.
