Using:
mencoder /media/KINGSTON/file.wmv -vf scale=720:480 -ofps 30000/1001 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg2video:aspect=16/9 -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2 -o /media/KINGSTON/file.mpg
I get a lot of artifacting in the result. The original files are fairly high quality.
I want some decent output files to make DVD's

Thanks. Had to build it from AUR. Do you use Amarok? Avidemux from the repo wanted to upgrade faad2 and it breaks Amarok's ability to play back m4a (aac) music files. I encountered this on another system as well.

How can i make iMovie -- iDVD quality better??

I have search about the idvd quality in this site but i can't solve my problem yet.
I had a sony DV cam which is PC3, Pal. And I use the imovie..import...edit, then use "share" to idvd...then burn...
So I play the finished DVD in a DVD player, i find many many pixels, the quality of the DVD movie inside is like a VCD. In fact, my DV cam is not the lastest and fine quality, but i surpose the DVD movie should be same quality as my DV cam.
So I use another method to test whether my DV cam....(is model too old, something wrong with my DVcam...)
(1) In imovie, use "share" to my DV cam tape
(2) then i use another converter which is borrow from my friend, is like a DVD burner and player. which can convert the DV tape or VHS...directly convert and save in a DVD disc.
(3) after burning the file. the quality is fine, just like what i shoot from my DV cam.
So what's the problem?? Is the convertor between imovie and idvd not good enough??
Or I need to use other methods? for example, use the imovie export a quicktime movie, then use the toaster make the DVD or VCD is better ?

That is an option, too, but I use that only when troubleshooting.
iMovie automatically creates a reference movie when it saves at iMovie_project/Shared Movies/iDVD/*.mov. Using the ref.mov instead of a full quality export saves time and HD space.
iMovie sends that ref.mov to iDVD when you press the "Create iDVD project" in iMovie's iDVD tab. BUT: DON'T let iMovie render still images if it prompts it: as a very old nasty bug, it will ruin your stills!!

You can also use that ref.mov as an input for 3rd party apps. MPEG Streamclip and JES Deinterlacer can "see" it inside the package but with some other apps you may need to copy it out of the package 1st.
Notice also that some 3rd party apps (MPEG Streamclip and JES Deinterlacer do this correctly) may unexpectedly honor the deinterlaced playback setting of the ref.mov so you must uncheck that flag with QT Player before using it as in input. Otherwise the output will be deinterlaced.

I don't believe Apple is setup for tax exempt purchases. It's strictly comsumer oriented.
Are you making a profit on your book sale? If so just up the price to cover the tax and you purchase it and deliver to the school. If not then reimburse the school for the tax and write it off as a deduction.

i work a hd project and after we will make a dvd video. if i export a mov and convert it with toast titanium the quality is bad. if i make it dvd studio pro hd dvd mac and pc is open but dvd player does not play it. and the other version dvd studio pro convert from 16/9 to 4/3. but i don't like it. the other one i send to compressor and chose the dvd/hd dvd:mpeg-2 30 minutes it exports mv2 not vob(audio ts video ts)
so i want to make a high quality hd dvd video how can i do that?

I don't know about NTSC but there is a nice PAL solution for SD 16:9 for ordinary DVDs. The 16:9 image becomes 720x576 pixels. So the pixels are each quite wide, and the horizontal resolution is less than the vertical resolution, but at least no pixels are wasted as with letterbox.
A semi-solution is to make a HD-DVD. That format has been abandoned but Apple software pretends otherwise. Apple Compressor does compressions at around 20 Megabits/second data rate specifically for HD-DVD, and Apple DVD Studio Pro makes HD-DVDs. For short projects, less than around 30 minutes, the HD-DVD can be made on a normal DVD. (I did this for a 40 minute project by cutting the bitrate somewhat.) The quality is almost equal to Blu-Ray, but who can play it? People with well equipped Apples can.

Hi Chloe -
Did you create the logo using Photoshop CS6? When you place an image on a website and then copy it staight from the website, you risk losing some of the quality of the original file. Outside of placing the logo directly into your word document using the original file, you can maximize the quality of the logo you're placing on your website by using the Save for Web function of Photoshop.
You can access this function by going to File > Save for Web...
This will allow you to adjust settings so that you can get an image with a small file size suitable for using on your website while still maintaining a high quality image.
Here is a short tutorial from Lynda.com on using the Save for Web functions of Photoshop CS6:
I believe that the blurriness that you are describing is an issue with Microsoft Word, which we probably won't be able to help you much with. However, if you have access to it, Adobe InDesign is an alternative to creating documents that intregrates better with high-quality graphics.

Here comes the question: how does Siri get better?
I mean, once you used Siri and found the words are slighty off from what you actually said.
Most people might just launch Siri again and re-spoke the sentence again until Siri finally got what they wanted.
Is Siri able to learn the accent from this action?
Siri sometimes got wrong on certain names especially they're ones Nickname and probably not even a complete word.
Then Siri tried to make the whole senetence logical by changing the entire sentence which will result something completely off the original given command.

I'd suggest:
1) don't have setNumeratorr and setDenominator methods. Make the numerator and denominator final fields in Rational. That is, make each Rational instance immutable.
2) Give Rational a constructor that takes two longs. One is the numerator and the other is the denominator. The constructor removes common factors between the two and stores the values in their most reduced form.
3) The add method can probably be cleaned up give (2).
4) Don't name the argument to add "object". Of course it's an object. Call it "operand" or even just "other".

I have a UITableView table1. And when I touch any cell in the table a new UIViewController appears and it have two UITextField's name and description. After entering the data in both the text fields I used the save button to save them. In save method I wrote the code for the data to be stored in plist.

I have installed Jdeveloper 10.1.3.1.0 and Oracle database Express edition 10g on the same machine.I want to connect to the database from Jdeveloper but i get the message "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection" , when i test the connection. The listener is running and am able to connect to database using SQL Plus.
I have tried various methods like giving the ipaddress and giving the URL, looking at the JDBC configuration wizard given in the documentation , but of no use .. can anyone please suggest me how to connect??
