How do i make a dvd from an imovie

I made a new project in iMovie, and I want to burn it onto a DVD, but my iLife package did not come with iDVD, so how do I burn a DVD from iMovie without iDVD?

you have a very legitimate point. To my knowledge, there is no more secure way for archival storage than a DVD stored in a dark, cool, plastic enclosed jacket (to protect from scratches). after experiencing hard drive SATA storage discs (time capsule failures in particular) fail, want to go back to DVD storage, but now everyone wants to sell you a new program and 2 TB backups.
So what to do? Dumb down my Lion OS  back to Leopard and go back to the good old days when I could get something done?
Having "switched " from MS to Mac almost 4 years ago, ready to go back. I had fewer hassles with my computers, got more done, and had lower blood pressure ten years ago than I do now, although Windows is always a "Johnny come lately" when it comes to any new innovation, having merely perfected the art of monopoly. lately though, have become very disenchanted with Apple, and will not be replacing /repairing my MacBook pro, macMini,  iIMac when they finally break.
Is there any you tube site that someone could show me how to simply plug my Sony 8mm camcorder with the old Motorola style plugs (also has an S -video option) to the Mac Mini and burn the DVDs one by one? No editing. no fancy stuff. Just a straight out burn for archival storage? I want to get that done first before I mess with the hard drive back ups.
Thanks

Apple no longer sells iDvd.  You will have to purchase an older version of iLife that has iDvd on it or use a third party application such as Toast from Roxio.

    Use iDVD.
Apple no longer sells it. Buy any version of iLife 11, 09, or 08 from your favourite software vendor and install just the iDVD app.

In general, in imovie Share to Media Browser or Share to iTunes.
Then open iDVD. Open the Media Browser in iDVD (at bottom right of window). Navigate to your movies and you should see the movie you made. Drag it in to the iDVD project.

  • Can I make a DVD from the iMovie I just created?

Hello! Hey, nothing like last minute but I created a movie using still photos and music in iMovie. Not one problem, went without a hitch. However, I want to put this in a DVD to watch on my TV tomorrow morning....it's a Christmas gift for my husband and daughter. Is there any way to do this? Do I have to do it in iDVD?
I realize this probably won't get answered tonight considering this is Christmas Eve. But, thought I'd try.
    Thanks!
    Merry Christmas

    Merry Christmas to you also.
Choose share and media browser, once this is complete open iDVD and you will see your movie in the media browser, you can then use it with iDVD to make your DVD.
    Next time try iMovie 06.
I use both iMovie 08 and iMovie 06, if I want to make a DVD I prefer iMovie 06. iMovie 08 is not as DVD friendly as iMovie 06.
iMovie 08 has replaced "Share to iDVD" with "Share to media browser". Also iMovie 08 cannot set chapter markers, this has to be done with another program.
When using iMovie 06, one mouse click will set a chapter marker EXACTLY where you specify. In just a few seconds set all your chapter markers. When you are done editing just "share to iDVD 08" and all of your chapter markers will be there!
iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 is a terrific combination.
Apple includes iMovie 06 as a free download to iLife 08 owners. (THEY WANT YOU TO HAVE IT!)

The Web site below has a good comparison of iMovie 08 and iMovie 06.

  • How do i make a dvd from my iphone videos

Would love to make a dvd of my iphone videos.  Have tried Roxio but my videos are rotated during transfer and can't rotate them back.  I tried windows dvd maker and says it doesn't support the file type of my videos. Any ideas?

If you have a Mac, you can use iDVD or iPhoto.
If you have a PC, you can try Windows DVD maker.
Windows DVD Maker is included in premium editions (Home Premium and Ultimate) of Windows Vista, and Windows 7

  • OK, I have a .mov and .ac3 file output by Compressor.  How do I make a DVD from these?

I'd like to use Toast 8 but I don't know where to drag the files...Toast help is no help at all...

First off, you should have compressor turn your .mov into an mpeg-2 file with an .ac3 file. Once you've done this, you simply select the Video button in Toast (I'm on Toast 10, but I think 8 was the same). Next select your Menu style from Toast and type in your DVD name. Finally drag your mpeg-2 file over into the Toast window. It will then ask you "do you have audio for this file?". Drag the .ac3 file over and have it burn the DVD. If you've done everything correctly it shouldn't re-encode your video, but simply add the menu to your already encoded files.
As an alternative, you could have Toast do the encoding as well. If you choose this route, you simply drag your original .mov video file over to the Video window. At this point there are some choices you need to make about how Toast will do the encoding. This way takes longer as Toast has to encode both your video and the menu you created.

  • HOW CAN I MAKE A DVD FROM MY VIDEOS AND PHOTOS?

I have videos and photos in iphoto and want to make a presentation that will include photos intersperced with video. Is that possible? If so please advise. Not a high-tech kind of person

I've never done it with videos on iPhoto, so I'm not sure. You can certainly do it in iMovie.
Do you want it to play on a DVD player? If so, you'll need a DVD authoring program like iDVD. Older Macs shipped with iDVD, likely on a separate iLife '11 disk. Recently, Apple stopped bundling iDVD. If you have iDVD, once you finish the slideshow in either iPhoto or iMovie, Share it to iDVD. From there, you can pick a theme and add menus and such.

  • How do i make a dvd from an iphoto slideshow?

I've got a slide show established in iphoto.  It's complete with music.  What's the simplest way to get it onto a dvd so I can show it at a party for my parent's 50th anniversary?  The guy supplying the projector said it has to be a DVD.

If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
If you want to create a very, simple video DVD there are numerous DVD authoring apps available thru the App Store.  You'll also need an external optical drive.
You might consider going the YouTube route.  Would be a lot simpler and less costly.   Just send them the link for sharing to those you want to view them in an email like this link: http://youtu.be/cObDX_kG7XI?list=UUzY8vgMAs4KTYuFmUn9wYMA

  • How do I make a DVD from an Aperture 3 slideshow?

I am a new user to Aperture 3 and I was wondering if an Aperture slideshow (with video) can be exported to iMovie or IDVD so I can burn it to a disk? I see the information for viewing it on the iPhone or MobileMe but I didn't see anything indicating I could burn it to a DVD.

    Hi Terence,
I'm trying to do the same thing, but I don't see the option for Quicktime?
    I see:
    ipod
    Iphone/Ipod Touch
    mobile me/youtube
    appletv
    hd 720
    hd1080
and custom, which has h.264 and mpeg4
I don't see any options for a NTSC 16:9 uncompressed quicktime file which I can export to compressor for DVD compression before dropping into DVD Studio Pro?
I must be missing a step?
Cheers and thanks in advance for any help.
