How do I make Firefox never use any plugins without my direct approval? (Take 2)

Since my old topic is "archived" and tells me to ask a new question, I'll do exactly that.
As I have asked here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/957837?esab=a&s=&r=0&as=s I need a way to control what my browser does and what it does not. Because I treat PC as my property, not some sentinent being that can do stuff on it's own and tell me what I can and cannot do with it - like, "you have no rights to delete this file" or "this is protected by XYZ".
Problem is, with Firefox keep getting plugins installed that I do not want, and I cannot remove them. It's not a matter of spyware or malware or adware, I'm not installing bogus programs or cracks, playing poker or watching porn. It's about legit plugins... that I still do not want!
For example, I do not want Nvidia 3D plugin. I don't care if it's safe or not, I just do not want Firefox to slow down even a millisecond for something I DO NOT WANT TO EVER USE. Not to mention, I don't have 3D nor will I ever have one. I also do not want Google Update, Microsoft Office or whatever else plugin. I need flash and flash alone and everything else should never ever appear in my browser.
I also do not want to constantly watch after Firefox to check if it has acquired some new plugins for me to disable. Because I'm not a servant of my PC, am I?
But the main problem is: I cannot REMOVE plugins! I just can't! I can seem to "Never activate" them but I can't remove. No option is there! Why? Why is there no option to remove a plugin? Why not at least tell me where does the plugin reside so I could wipe it?
When I asked this before, I was told that something is in the work to counter that for "later this year". So, is there an update? I guess not, because I googled and found nothing of sorts (and plugins keep popping in my firefox plugins panel).
At this point, I'm open to any kind of hack to deal with it. I'm a programmer myself so I can manage a simple background app or a custom firefox.exe launcher. Is there a place where it's explained where this list of plugins is stored, so I could just write a program that wipes everything I don't want from it every time I'm launching firefox? Can I do something to either prevent programs from installing new plugins, or intercept that and delete them? Anything?
Thanks in advance!

hello Istrebitel, you cannot remove plugins from within firefox, because (contrary to extensions for example) they get installed on a system level. you can enter ''about:plugins'' into the address-bar in order to see where certain plugin files reside on your harddrive and delete them this way...

  • How do I make Firefox never use any plugins without my direct approval?

    Greetings.
I have a problem with the way Firefox handles plugins.
First, plugins automagically appear in the list as enabled. This is terrible, because I do not want ANYTHING to appear in my browser without my consent. I don't care, I just do not.
Second, even if I disable them, they get automagically enabled back. And that's not trojan or virus, that's Google Update and Ubisoft Uplay - perfectly legal plugins from big companies behaving like that. Why is this ever allowed? If I disabled something, I want it to stay that way. Period.
Third, Firefox does not allow me to delete them! I have to delete them manually.
Is there any way to fix this? Is there a way to make Firefox NEVER discover and add to its list any plugin without my approval? Is there a way to make plugin FORVER stay disabled after I clicked "disable" on it?
    Thanks.

I see, it's kinda stupid it was made this way, but good to hear a fix is coming.

  • When I put a website Icon on my desktop, how do I make firefox use the Icon native to that website instead of the default Firefox Icon?

When I drag and drop a website onto my desktop, how can I make Firefox use the icon native to that website instead of the default firefox icon?
I have even gone painstakingly (SEVERAL TIMES) to the sites with IE, dragged the site onto my desktop in order to obtain the site native icons for my desktop (and deleted the ones with the Firefox icon) .... but they all soon revert to the default Firefox icon.
    E X T R E M E L Y F R U S T R A T I N G !!!!!!!!!

I don't want icons from the Firefox library.
I want the icon that comes from the website I'm making the shortcut for.
(If you go to a site in IE you will see the site generated icon at the left end of the URL in the address field.)
If I make IE my default browser I am able to get (and keep) those icons as shortcuts on my desktop without a problem.
I want to keep Firefox as my default browser.
So I want to know how to make Firefox accept the icon that comes from the website like IE does.
I have even gone to the trouble to use IE to create the shortcuts with the site specific icons.....but after I do that...... FIREFOX CONVERTS THEM TO THE FIREFOX DEFAULT ICON as soon as I re-boot or refresh my desktop.
I generally prefer Firefox as a browser....but If there's no fix.....I'm going to dump Firefox.

  • TS3297 iTunes puts up a message "The item you've requested is not currently available in the Hong Kong Store." I had not requested anything from the HK store at that point, and I have never used any store other than the HK one. How I can clear that messag

I've been running iTunes on WinXP for years with few problems.  I have all my iTunes files on an external USB drive. I just bought a new PC running Win7, 64-bit.
I connected the external USB drive to the new PC and installed 64-bit iTunes on it. When iTunes started up, I pointed it at the iTunes directory in the external drive, using Edit > Preferences > Advanced > iTunes Media Folder Location. It showed a progress bar that it was updating the iTunes Library. I signed in and authorized the new machine. I have one spare authorization.
Then iTunes put up a message "The item you've requested is not currently available in the Hong Kong Store." I had not requested anything from the HK store at that point, and I have never used any store other than the HK one.
When I click OK, the iTunes Store page remains blank, apart from saying "iTunes Store" in the middle of the page.
I went to "View My Account" and pressed the Reset button to "Reset all warnings for buying and downloading items", but that doesn’t fix this particular warning. I also tried Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Reset Warnings and Rest Cache.
But still, every time I click the “App Store” button in the iTunes Store window, the message appears. If I click the Books, Podcasts or iTunesU buttons, these display normally.  So I’m stuck with being unable to purchase apps, other than through my iPad and iPhone.
If I move the external drive back to the XP machine, the same thing happens.  If I go to another PC - a notebook running Vista - everything is normal.
Any idea how I can clear that message?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Further info on my question above.
I have tried re-validating my credit card, which apparently fixed it for some.
I have also tried uninstalling, re-downloading and installing again.
Neither of these steps fixed the problem.

  • How can I make Firefox recognise that I have changed the DNS servers to use?

After I edit /etc/resolv.conf to make my computer use more reliable DNS servers, Firefox doesn't notice until I restart it. How can I make Firefox notice the change without restarting it?

I discovered that I can do this by ticking Work Offline in the File menu, and then immediately unticking it again.
(I believe this mimics what would happen if the operating system disconnected and reconnected from a wireless network, which would be a situation where Firefox would need to check for new DNS servers. So that explains why it works.)

  • How can I make Firefox use another installed Java runtime version?

For development purposes I have several Java runtime versions on my Windows 7 64 bit machine. I try to keep the number of installed JDKs and JREs to a minimum and I want Firefox to use JRE 1.7.0_21 (32 bit) since this came with a JDK version I am forced to use for another application.
Firefox however uses JRE 1.6.0_31, and correctly reports this as insecure. It offers me the option to upgrade, but I do not want to download and install another JRE since I already have said JRE 1.7.0_21 installed. I would highly prefer to just be able to point Firefox to that JRE. I don't see an option to select another installed JRE however.
I have already attempted to manually modify the pluginreg.dat file (I know, it says Do not edit...) by changing the JRE 1.6 entries to JRE 1.7, but upon restart my edits were overwritten and the old JRE was back. As a result I cannot view certain web sites (also corporate/internal) without having to switch to lesser browsers.
Please let me know how I can make Firefox use the already installed JRE 1.7.

Thank you for your response, cor-el. I was able to successfully add the JRE 1.7 plugin to Firefox by modifying the existing JRE 1.6 registry entries, but I would not recommend this procedure to users that are less confident in registry editing. Too bad there is not a more user friendly way to do this.
Unfortunately the Java applet I'm trying to view is still not displayed. I've dug a bit deeper and found that the applet explicitly specifies an older JPI version (1.5.0_02). AFAIK Firefox cannot deal with this if its installed JPI (now 1.7.0_21) does not match the version requested. So either I'm going to have to dig up this older JPI version and install that too, or just switch to an alternative browser to be able to view this applet.

Firefox 4 and later versions save the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows.<br />
You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
    Another possibility is to use:
    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox/Tools > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • How can I tweak firefox to use less of RAM?100MB+ is too much for my system.thanks

    Ok,
I have latest updated version of firefox.
I have hp510 laptop with 1 GB of RAM.
My problem is that firefox is really good but uses too much of RAM(100 MB or more) while in usage.
How can I tweak firefox to use less RAM, as my system gets hammered.
    Thank you.
    Danny

    thanks.
I opened my extensions, and all are disabled, except ADBLOCK.
I usually clean my history on weekly basis, sometimes even on daily basis.
When I use firefox, most of the time ther is no other application in use by me (I don't encounter all those back apps for the system).
Most of the time, I have only 2 windows open , very rare there more.
The issue is that even at starting of firefox session I can see in task manager there is minimum 95 MB or charge, without any work done by me.
I usually have charge about 370-390 MB of RAM, but when I open Firefox it gets me up to 500 or more.

In windows 7, how do I make firefox start automatically when I turn on the pc

That worked, thanks. When I turn on the pc, I almost always go to the internet before anything else, so this eliminates one step. It doesn't seem to save any time, however, but it is easy. If anyone else wants to try this, it looks like it's very easy to undo if you change your mind.

  • How do I make Firefox ask me again if I want to save a password for a website when I've already told it no?

I go to a website and login to it.
Firefox asks me if I want to save the password.
    I say No.
Later, I decide that I do want Firefox to save the password to that website.
How can I make Firefox ask me if I want to save that password again?
The website is not listed in the (Options \ Security \ Passwords \ Exceptions) list.

Only if you choose "Never" then an exception is created.
Otherwise Firefox should offer to save the password on the next visit.
Did you look for the presence of a key like icon at the left end of the location bar?

  • How do I make a purchase using my Itunes account?

How do I make a purchase using my Itunes account?
    Help any body.

What happens when you click on the price button, what prompts/messages appear ? If you have a balance on your account then that will automatically be used for the purchase, you can't specify how items are charged.
If when clicking on the price button you are being prompted to review and log into the account then unless the instructions on this page are followed when creating an account : Create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card or other payment method  - Apple Suppor…
then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store.
If that is what is happening then you could see if this post by mountaingoatgirl lets you review your account without needing to enter credit card details : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24303054#24303054
If not then try entering your card's details, it shouldn't be charged (apart from a temporary store holding charge which your card issuer should remove within a few days or so), and you should be able to remove the card after entering it.

If the purchases are all from the same account then you can share the content by authorizing each device.
If you have separate accounts then you have to be authorized to use the content purchased from another account.
