How do I make Firefox not open the homepage in new windows?

Hi. I have a collection of 4 pages set to open every time I start Firefox. Whenever I need to open a new window, my 4 pages open again.
I would like to have those 4 pages open only the first time I start the browser, because I never close them. Obviously I don't need them open again.
How can I set it so that these 4 pages open the first time I start my browser, but only have a blank page open the next time I select "open new window."
Even more ideal would be to have the choice to open my homepages or a blank page (in case for some reason they do get closed).
Any solution that takes more than one extra step is one extra step too many. Otherwise, I'd simply just x out of three of my pages and change the URL of the 4th.
I'm not entirely technically minded, so if yours is a technical solution, I thank you in advance for clearly laying out the steps one-by one.
Cheers.

One possibility would be to change how you open a new window. You can create a bookmark for Firefox's '''about:blank''' page and then, to open it in a new window, shift+click the bookmark.
(To create it, right-click the Bookmarks Toolbar or Bookmarks Menu near where you want to add it and choose New Bookmark. Enter about:blank in the Location and any description you like in the Name, then click Add Bookmark.)
But that might be difficult to remember or inconvenient, so the next thought would be to bookmark your 4 home pages as a group in a single folder on your Bookmarks Toolbar or Bookmarks Menu, as you prefer. If you ''middle-click'' that folder with the mouse scroll wheel, Firefox will open all of its pages in separate tabs in the same window. Does that still count as 1 step?
(To create it, open a new window with your four tabs. Right-click any of the tabs and choose Bookmark All Tabs. This will create the new folder. Assuming it tests out, you can then change your Firefox home page to about:blank to display a blank page.)
Are we getting closer?

  • How do I make Firefox not open when I turn on the computer

I need to open firefox manually

You can have whatever page you want to open when opening a new tab, including a blank page, if that is what you choose.
#In the Location bar, type '''''about:config''''' and press Enter.
#*The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
#Type '''''browser.newtab.url''''' in the search box.
#Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and change the url from about:newtab to '''''about:blank'''''. Alternately, you can change it to '''''about:home''''' for the Firefox Google home page, or type in your preferred home page, for example google.com.
#Click OK and close the about:config tab.

  • How do you make adobe X open the "combine pdf" window in the foreground?

This may not be the correct forum for this question, but considering that I simply
have not been able to get a reply in any other Adobe forum, I decided
to just post this question to ALL Adobe forums until I get a response.........
How do you make adobe X open the "combine pdf" window in the foreground?
I am using a "Windows 7" computer at work with "Acrobat X Pro" and I'm constantly combining
    pdf's and tiff's in Acrobat.
It would be nice if when I select 30 or 40 files to combine, the *******
"Combine Supported Files in Adobe Acrobat" window would open in the
foreground, not behind the 10 or so windows already open.
I have been researching this for some time now with no solution.
If the answer is that "IT CAN'T BE DONE", then that's fine. At least
I will have an answer and can stop searching. If (as I suspect) it can
be done, then kindly supply me with "step by step" instructions.

    Hi ,
I guess that was a bug in that version .
It does not happen in Acrobat XI and Acrobat DC .The window comes right in front of everything else .
I wonder that was a bug and that was fixed the other versions.
You could upgrade to the latest Acrobat version ,i.e Acrobat DC and you would not experience this anymore .

    Every time Firefox opened

Firefox can have multiple home pages if you wish. Each home page that will open when starting Firefox is separated by the "|" character.
    See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
To have new tabs open a specific web site, add one of the following extensions:

  • Firefox will not open tabs in a new window

When I right click a tab, and select the option "Open in a new window", Firefox does not respond.
I can add as many tabs as I like, but can not open them in a new window.
I can also right click a link and open it in a new tab, but Firefox does not do anything when I try to open the link in a new window.
I reinstalled Firefox on my computer, and also updated Java and it did not solve the problem.
This started happening about a week ago for no apparent reason.

First check to see if an add-on is causing this problem, for details on how to do that see the [[troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article.
If that does not help, try creating a new profile. Firefox stores user data in the profile folder, creating a new profile will show if the problem is with the old profile. For how to do that see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows]. If the new profile works, you can transfer select data such as bookmarks and passwords to the new profile. DO not copy the preferences file, and it is best to re-install add-ons. For details of how to do that see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox transferring data to a new profile].

  • How can I prevent Firefox from opening the file I create when I print a page with PDF Create! 5

After I print a web page using PDF Create! 5, Firefox opens the file so i can view it. Before I print, I select print properties and disable "view resulting pdf". However, the file is always opened in Adobe Acrobat, although I believe I have Adobe Reader set as default. I do not want any file to open. This happens on my non-privileged accounts. On my privileged account, the file is not opened. I have removed Firefox profiles, re-installed Firefox, Reset Firefox in Help-Troubleshooting. PDF Create!5 print screen can only be viewed in a host program such as Firefox, Libre-office Writer, or any other program that prints. They do not open the file either.

Thanks for your help. This is the Scansoft (Nuance) program. What I do not understand is why when I tell the print driver not to open the file with a privileged account, it obeys me. I am not sure where in the registry I would look for the information. I do not want to, but perhaps I should remove the Adobe Acrobat program (temporarily?) - then what would it do? Again, when I print from other programs - browsers, wordprocessors, etc - the file is not opened after printing, just with FireFox. I guess I can live with it, I have spent too much time already.

  • After installing the newest update, when I try to open a saved page Firefox only opens the homepage. Reset didn't help.

I am a web designer. I have saved pages that I update and upload to websites all the time. Now, after the latest updates, when I try to open these saved pages it only opens Firefox and loads the homepage. The saved page does not open. If I'm to keep using Firefox, which I would prefer, I need this functionality back.

    </blockquote>
I had tried all the suggestions. None of they helped. I can open the files by browsing for they after Firefox is open. I was able to spend some more time troubleshooting the issue yesterday afternoon. The issue has to do with the 64-bit file system. When I right click and select open with and then point it to the installation folder in the Program Files (x86) folder, it still won't open the file just opens to my home page. I did notice that when I was browsing for Firefox.exe that it defaulted to the Program Files folder not the Program Files (x86) folder. So I renamed the exe to LittleFox.exe and browsed for that exe and Firefox would then open the files as expected. So my guess is that it is a registry setting that is all the headache. I don't have time to run that problem down but will just use my workaround by renaming a copy of the exe and use that with my file association.
    Thanks

  • Firefox not remember the homepage

I have recently upgraded to Firefox v 4.0.1, and this version does not remember the homepage that I set. It will remember it (i.e. I can navigate away to another page, and click on the homepage icon, and the correct homepage opens) until I close down Firefox and re-open, then this page http://www.searchqu.com/406
    comes up as the homepage.
    Any suggestions welcome.

Run free malwarebytes from http://www.malwarebytes.org/ to get rid of searchqu and then Firefox should remember your homepage. It did for me.

  • Force firefox to open links in a new window

How can I force firefox to open a link in a new window? Right now it opens the link in the same window, no matter how I configure the settings. Frustrating.
    Thanks

Firefox does not have a built-in setting to open all links in a new window. Normally, you would need to hold down the Shift key when clicking the link (Shift+click) or use right-click > Open Link in New Window.
You may be able to find an add-on that adds this feature. I know there are various add-ons to open links in a ''new tab'', but I don't know about a new window.
If the problem is particular to Google search results, there is a setting in Google itself to switch the links from same window to new window. That can be found on the search preferences page:
    https://www.google.com/preferences#nwc
This preference is saved in a cookie, so if you clear cookies often, then you would need to revisit that page often.

  • How do i make firefox automatically open a file. "Do this automatically with files like this from now on." does NOT work.

I have firefox set to Open .wav files with VLC and i have the check box marked to "Do this automatically for files like this from now on." But every time i click download for a .wav voicemail from gmail, i get the same dialog box. I just want firefox to hand the downloaded file to VLC and play it. I don't want to have to click anything after i click the download link. Isn't that action what i'm telling firefox to do after i mark the checkbox with "Do this automatically with file like this from now on." ? Isn't that implied with my selection of the box? How can i fix this?i want to click a "download" link for a .wav voice mail in Gmail and have it automatically play in VLC without any further interaction from me.

No it's saving the preferences and the check box remains checked from session to session. It will even continue to ask me to what to do with the file even in the same session when i try to download the same file again 5 seconds after i downloaded it the first time.

  • How do you make firefox NOT your default browser?

I accidentally made Firefox my default browser thinking that you could change it back to not default. Is there a way to make a browser other than Firefox default when Firefox is currently default? (i.e. i want to know how to un-default Firefox.)

I found an answer to this question at https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/761175.
Don't mess with the registry keys, this part worked for me:
    Check the default settings in:
Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > "Set Program Access And Defaults" (on the left)
Open: Custom (click arrow on the right)
Select "Internet Explorer" under "Choose a default Web Browser"
    Click OK
