How do I MAKE Firefox remember passwords

I like Firefox..... I like the new version of Firefox. I DESPISE having the enter library card numbers and passwords every time.....
HOW do I get Firefox to store this information?
YES, FF is set to store passwords. NO, there's no exception.
I'm finding it VERY hard to believe the library is security conscious enough to make their software refuse to let me store the card numbers, so HOW do I MAKE FF ask for the information and keep the information?

Firefox has a feature to remember my passwords, which is very useful. However, some sites mess with this so they won't save my passwords. In some cases these sites turn "autocomplete" off for the password field in their html; in other cases they appear to use some kind of javascript magic to stop me from saving my passwords.
First of all, why should websites try to stop me from saving my password? Do they really think its more secure if people have to write their passwords on stickynotes on their monitor to remember them--or worse, use the same password on all sites? I what way is it conceivably more secure? In any case it's MY business how I manage my passwords--not theirs!
I have had some success in battling evil sites that try to stop my from saving my passwords by editing the nsLoginManager.js file. But this is not convenient as I must keep doing this every time firefox gets upgraded, and it doesn't work for some sites like American Express which I think use some sort of javascript to stop me from doing what I want.
So my question is, how can I effectively make firefox remember ALL the passwords I want, when _I_ want to--and NOT obey evil websites that just want to practice CYA while actually making me LESS secure?

Every other site can remember my login details so I don't have to type them every time. But for some reason, Yahoo does not let Firefox remember my login details. So I have to cut and paste from a Notepad file, since I am sick and tired of typing them every single time. I can log in to'' my.yahoo.com'' without going through the pains you are describing. I have login data stored under https://login.yahoo.com. From my own experience I know, this is just one of the many doors into Yahoo. Check your login data in FX to see if there's any entries for yahoo already there:

How can I make Firefox remember new passwords for old accounts?

I have recently moved to a new notebook computer. I used the "Password Exporter" add-on to import my passwords from my old machine.
Now, when I reach a Web page that I'd saved the user id and password for, it no longer appears in the fields and I have to start typing some of it, before Firefox offers it again.
Also, if a password has changed, when I enter the new one, Firefox won't offer to update that saved account with the new password - so I'm stuck with my old 'list' of accounts and their original passwords.
How can I fix these problems?

Since the 5.0 update, I can go into 'options,' click 'toolbar layouts,' and then drag the "home" button icon to my preferred location (back on the left beside the URL line). However, when I close the browser window open a new one, the "home" icon is back in its original and undesirable location. I have tried editing the prefs.js / user.js folders within my profile directory, but I cannot seem to find anything that relates (to my knowledge) to this issue. Some sites (like and others) like PayPal, Yahoo, Windows Live and bank sites use ''autocomplete="off"'' to prevent Firefox from saving the name and the password.
If a site uses ''autocomplete="off"'' then look at this article for a bookmarklet to remove that autocomplete attribute.

Only if you choose "Never" then an exception is created.
Otherwise Firefox should offer to save the password on the next visit.

If I make IE my default browser I am able to get (and keep) those icons as shortcuts on my desktop without a problem.
I want to keep Firefox as my default browser.
So I want to know how to make Firefox accept the icon that comes from the website like IE does.
I have even gone to the trouble to use IE to create the shortcuts with the site specific icons.....but after I do that...... FIREFOX CONVERTS THEM TO THE FIREFOX DEFAULT ICON as soon as I re-boot or refresh my desktop.

That worked, thanks. When I turn on the pc, I almost always go to the internet before anything else, so this eliminates one step. It doesn't seem to save any time, however, but it is easy. If anyone else wants to try this, it looks like it's very easy to undo if you change your mind.
