How do I make more room on my iDisk?

I'm trying to burn a dvd on iDVD (from iMovie) and it says there isn't enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets.  I don't even know how to access the disk because I don't have mobile me anymore and it wants me to sign in to mobile me!  Help?!!

When using iDVD it's generally recommended to maintain a minimum of 20-25 GB of free space so as not to interfere or bog down the encoding process.
There are a number of ways to clear out a hard drive.  One easy way to free up space on the boot drive is to move your iPhoto Library to an external hard drive that is formatted OS X Extended (journaled) and run it from there.  The same can be done with an iTunes library.  Both libraries tend to be large and take up a lot of disk space.
When moving the iPhoto library drag it to the EHD.  When the copying process is complete launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select the library on the EHD to open.  Confirm that it's complete and working properly before deleting the original library from the Pictures folder on the boot drive.  Check with the iTunes forum on how to move its library to an EHD.

3 GB out of what?  How large is your hard drive?  Rule of thumb: You should never let your hard drive get to where you have only 10-15% of space left.

  • How can I make more room on my ipod to put more songs on it

My ipod is running out of room to put more songs on it and I have a 4GB ipod and I only have 488 songs. How can I make more room on my ipod fore more songs?

Delete other content from it or restore it. Note that if the songs are encoded at a bitrate higher than 128Kbps or longer than 4 minutes, the iPod won't hold as many as advertised.

How can I make more room on my 6-year old MacBook Pro? I already have an external hard drive.

    Two options:
Delete files from your Home folder you no longer use or need (but do not delete anything from the /Home/Library/ folder.)
Buy and install a larger hard drive. You can find suitable drives at OWC. You would need a 2.5" notebook drive that is SATA II or SATA I compatible - 1.5 or 3.0 Gb/s.

My time machine says it need more room to complete back up, how do i make more room?

    Delete the old backups..
There is a reason though for this to happen. Tell us what model Time Capsule you are using and what size disk it has .. how much free space is available and how much is now required. If you upgraded to Mavericks it probably needs to do a whole new  backup and simply doesn't have the space .. nor can it delete the old backup.
Please read Pondini FAQ for details of these issues.. deleting backups for example Q12

    Try downloading omnidiscsweeper
    http://www.omnigroup.com/products/omnidisksweeper/
and check to see that are no large folders of files that you do not know about on your computer. Normally it will be Pics, Music or Movies.
If everyfile is required then you may well have to physically back a lot of it up to an external drive. You need a minimum of 15% free disc space to operate at a reasonable rate.

    Apps aren't stored in iCloud.
Are you trying to clear space in iCloud (which is stored on the internet, not in your iPad), or are you trying to clear some space in the internal storage of your iPad?

There is no magic bullet. You need to delete stuff off the startup drive.
The biggest hard drive space hogs are videos, images and music. The good news is that all of these can - and probably should - be moved to an external drive. So my advice would be to get yourself an external hard drive, connect it to your Macbook, format it correctly, move what you can to that drive, and the ERASE them off the startup.
    Good luck.

  • How can I make more room on external drive for Time Machine?

I now have Time Machine installed and in use on my external drive, which also still has my previous backup on it which used a different system (Dejavu). The external drive's capacity is 74 GB; 58.22GB are used, my iMac hard drive (backed up with TIme Machine) has 38.12 GB used, which by my calculation means about 20GB of the 58 on the external drive are the prior backup. Is there a way I can erase this prior backup, which now duplicates Time Machine, thereby making more room for Time Machine in the future? For instance, if need be, can I erase the whole thing and reinstall Time Machine on it? Thanks!

James, if you open your TM drive, I'm guessing you see the usual System, Library, Users, and Applications folder along with a folder labeled something like Backup.bkup. (I'm away from a TM backup and I can't exactly recall the name of the TM backup folder.)
The DejaVu backup is just a standard file backup using 'rsync' so you can delete whatever you want by simply dragging it to the trash and emptying the trash. If the drive is bootable, you may not want to lose that ability. But assuming there's nothing in your user folder on that backup that isn't also on your computer, you can delete just about everything in your User folder on that drive. You can delete selected applications too. And if you don't mind losing the ability to boot, you can drag everything but the TM backup folder.

  • How do I make more room on my HD if I can't start up

Hi. I get a kernal panice everytime I try to boot up and my computer won't start up. I'm fairly certain that it is happening because I have only 3 gigs left available on my hard drive. What is the best way to make space on my hard drive if I'm unable to boot up normally??
    thanks in advance!
    Matt

    Hi Matthew McLean;
In addition to DaddyPayCheck's comments, I would like to add that while you are booted from your recovery DVD that you repair your hard drive. With the free space that low, the odds are that you corrupted the files. By repairing the hard drive you will be able to hopefully repair that damage and prevent strange problems in the future.

  • How do i make more GB on my ipod

how do I make more room for GB on my ipod

You can compress the music on the iPod so each song takes up less storage. In the Summary pane for the iPod is iTunes there is a check box that says "Convert higher bitrate songs to XX kbps ACC. 128 is a good compromise on storage space and music quality.

  • How do I make more storage on my iPod?

How do I make more room in the "other" section of my storage? I want to rent a movie and they keep saying I don'y have enough room to download it. I checked iTunes and the most packed section of my storage is the 'other' catagory. How do I clear it?

Bear in mind that the amount may well be normal.  If it's truly too much, a Restore will help.
From your computer's iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
