How do I make more storage on my iPod?
How do I make more room in the "other" section of my storage? I want to rent a movie and they keep saying I don'y have enough room to download it. I checked iTunes and the most packed section of my storage is the 'other' catagory. How do I clear it?
Bear in mind that the amount may well be normal. If it's truly too much, a Restore will help.
From your computer's iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

With iCloud you get 5GB of storage for free and you have to pay an annual fee for more
Settings > iCloud > Storage and Backup > Change Storage Plan
If you don't want to pay and still want to backup to iCloud you will need to delete data off the device until your under 5GB
To check if you're under 5GB go Settings > Geneal > Usage

You can compress the music on the iPod so each song takes up less storage. In the Summary pane for the iPod is iTunes there is a check box that says "Convert higher bitrate songs to XX kbps ACC. 128 is a good compromise on storage space and music quality.

You're out of space. Do you sync music to your phone? If so, try syncing it over in 128kb which will save a lot of room. Option is right in front of you in iTunes when you plug phone in.

How to make more storage space to upgrade iPhone 4
Can’t upgrade to IOS 8.0.2 b/c phone says, “This upgrade cannot be installed because it requires at least 4.7 GB of storage. You can make more storage available by deleting items in Usage Settings.” Phone says I only have 1.4 GB available. I’ve only got 1) 2.7 GB of music, 2) 161 MB of photos, and total of 2 GB of other apps. Everything else are Apple apps, such as contacts, safari, mail, etc. I cleaned out most photos.
I’ve made a point of downloading very few apps and keeping all photos on my iMac, but the phone has filled up in only a few months. Seems only way to make any real space available is to have no music, no photos, and no apps. Only that will create 4.8 GB of available space. Is it just a phone then? Is there any other practical option?You can look in Settings > General > Usage > Storage > Manage Storage. That list will tell you what is taking up the most amount of space. Obvious culprits are photos and video. But games and magazine subscriptions are also very large.
What you delete first depends on what you use your iPhone for. What is your priority? In any case, that list will at least help you see what takes up the most space and decide what should go first. -

Download previously purchased content in a lower resolution
The easiest way to put purchased videos onto your device is to download the videos from iTunes in the Cloud. This should make sure that you get the highest resolution video optimized for your specific device. Learn more about downloading from iTunes in the Cloud.
Syncing video to iPhone 3G or earlier, iPod touch (1st or 2nd generation), iPod classic, iPod 5th generation, or iPod nano (3rd, 4th, or 5th generation)
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer. You can download the latest version for free here.
Open iTunes on your computer.
From the Store menu, choose Store > Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.
Navigate to your Purchased page. Find it by clicking Movies or TV Shows from the top navigation bar in the iTunes Store, and then click Purchased from "QUICK LINKS" in the iTunes Store.
Choose the appropriate video type: Movies or TV Shows.
In the lower-right corner of the screen, deselect the box next to "Download HD When Available."
Search for the desired video and click the download button.

<Re-Titled By Host>Back your photos up somewhere. E-mail them somewhere, upload them to dropbox, back them up somewhere. If you delete them they're gone. Also iOS8 drastically alters how photostream and the such works, so read up and back up your photos or you may lose them.
If you're short on space on your ipad, try doing the upgrade via iTunes and your computer. Then your computer supplies that expansion room and you wont' need to delete stuff off the iPad. -

What media sync options? Where are they ? How do I change them?Afraid, this doesnt help. I've already unselected about 100 iTunes, resynced, and I still get the same message about 610 MB needing to be deleted.
What is so magic about 610 MB as a number?
Is this anything to do with iCloud? I was on the free 20 MB offeruntil last month and then got downgraded to 5 because I could n't see the need for paying for extra Cloud space. Is this the reason why? -

One place to check is the hidden Library folder under your user account. From the Finder Menu click Go > Go To Folder > Enter: ~/Library/
IF YOU ARE UNSURE DO NOT DELETE SOMETHING
You may be able to find refrences to old applications that you have uninstalled. There is another folder inside that one called Application Support (~/Library/Application Support/). Same idea goes here, old software folders can be safely blown away. Don't forget to empty the Trash!
Bonus Points?
You can use the same technique on the /Library folder aswell!
