How Do I Make My EMac Wireless Ready?

I need to get an Airport or Airport Extreme card, correct? Which one will fit into my computer? I've got a large desktop emac that is about 3 years old. It's a PowerPC G4 (3.3), 1GHz processor, ATI graphics, 640 SDRAM.... I'm not sure if any of this info is helpful so let me know if you need more to help me out!
Thanks.
emac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi lovelycrimsonred, Welcome to the boards!
According to the document at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107440 , your computer needs an Airport Extreme card. These are available from Apple.com/store, or cheaply secondhand through ebay.com.
Installation details may be found in your computer's manual, which is also available online at http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/eMac_OriginalUserGuide.pdf (page 40+)
Enjoy!

  • How do I make my Emac wireless?

Is there a way to install a wireless card in a Emac?

If you have an older eMac, it would need the original airport card; these are rather scarce and are hence rather expensive. They are also 802.11B only which might limit your ability to connect to a wireless network and will limit your speed.
Another alternative (this is how I do it on my 700MHz eMac) is an ethernet wireless bridge adapter. These connect to your ethernet port and make it wireless. They require no drivers and are therefore platform and OS independent, although they are a little bit more difficult to set up. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $75 for one. I use a DLink DWL-G820.

    Hi, 2 ways...
USB Wifi adapter, but tough to find one that has Mac 10.4 drivers.
There are many Ethernet->Wifi adapters, here's one...

  • How to make an eMac wireless

    I have an eMac.
I don't think this is Airport ready.
There are lots of small USB adapters for PCs so they
    can receive 8211 signals.
How can I do this with an eMac?
    Thanks.

To add to Frank's advice, you can use KB 86325, eMac: How to locate the serial number and identify your model to determine which eMac you have. Using the nomenclature of that article:
The "eMac (2005)", "eMac (USB 2.0)", and "eMac (ATI Graphics)" require the AirPort Extreme card.
The "eMac" requires the original AirPort card.

  • How do i make my own wireless connection the default

Everytime my mb goes to sleep mode and then wakes up it reconnects to one of the other wireless networks in range instead of my own. Is there a way to make it to were my connection is the default?
Also is there a way to make it to where the macbook doesn't sleep or anything when i close the lid, so that i can keep downloading or whatever but have the lid closed?

Try this: Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network. Click on the advanced button. In the list of preferred networks, drag your network to the top of the list if it isn't there already.
You can keep your Macbook from going to sleep by adjusting the Energy Saver settings: Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Energy Saver. At the top of the pane, select either Battery or Power Adapter settings. Underneath "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for:" there is a slider; slide the blue dot all the way right to "Never."

  • How can I make my interntet wireless while keeping my desktop connected?

I just got my Macbook Pro and I love it! One problem... I got airport extreme with it and I don't know how I can keep my PC desktop connected to the internet (no wireless) while having my Macbook wireless? Everyone at the Apple store just said to plug my computer in to the airport express.... What plug? I have broadband and am using an ethernet cable.... PLEASE HELP! THanks!

I do have airport extreme ^^. When i plug the ethernet from the computer to the aiport base it doesnt work because its not connect to the broadband... how can i fix this?
Apple's AirPort terminology can be a bit confusing as Apple uses the term AirPort Extreme for both their wireless cards and base stations. If you take a look at the following reference, you can confirm which AirPort you actually have. (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107908) If your AirPort Base Station has only one Ethernet port AND it's not shaped like a "flying saucer," then most likely, it is the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).

  • How do I make my printer wireless

I have a HP Photosmart C4680 and I am needing to set it up as a wireless printer instead of having to keep it pluged into my lap top. Can you Please help. I already have wireless high speed internet.

Your printer has a USB interface only.  You can plug that USB into a wireless router that supports USB printers or buy a wireless print server, but most of these only support printing, not scanning.

  • How do I make my G4 wireless

I have a imac PowerPC G4 (flat screen) bought in 2002. I am currently connected to the internet using a hard wire, however soon I am moving and would like to connect wirelessly. Can I do this? Do I need an airport card? and if so which one? If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Yes, I can say with certainty that the USB wireless device I linked to comes with appropriate Mac OS X drivers and it does work under Tiger. Not fast, but it works. And it's a cheap solution if that counts.
A more expensive solution, in addition to the Airport card (if you can find one), is something called a wireless bridge. It communicates wirelessly with your wireless router and then connects via ethernet to your Mac. The advantage is that it does not require any additional software to be run on your Mac and it connects via the relatively fast ethernet connection. The disadvantage is that they are more expensive and require a bulkier extra device sitting next to your Mac. I don't have any links but they are out there. I considered one but balked at the cost.

  • How do i make my notebook wireless

I tried to use a wireless router and they said there is a button on my Notebook that I have to slide over to go to wirelss, but I can't find it.

The current Airport express card is actually PART of the wireless upgrade kit available for the first generation of Mac minis that did not have wifi as standard, but on its own it is certainly no good.
The complete kit contains the AE card, a small adapter card to which the AE card fits and which then connects into the logic board, and the Airport antenna itself which clips to the top of the internal structure. The kit can be obtained from a number of sources, but officially it's only available through Apple service providers who are required to fit it. However, it can also be obtained from places such as http://www.mac-pro.com/s.nl/it.A/id.1501/.f?sc=2&category=22 and a reasonably careful owner can fit it themselves or take it to an Apple approved service provider who will do the work (for a fee of course).
As an alternative, you might try one of the small number of USB wifi 'dongles' around, but even those known to be mac compatible often provide very poor and variable results.
The official kit is, in my view, the way to go.

  • How do I make my MacMini wireless?

I have an original (first-generation) MacMini, and I would like to enable it for wireless web. The people at the Mac store tell me that the current Airport Express card is NOT for use with my computer. What card do I need, and where can I get it? Thanks!

  • How can I make my eMac run faster?

I'm using OS X version 10.4.11, 1 GH PowerPC G4, 1 GB SDRAM. It's a wonderful machine though 8 years old, but lately it is running very slow. Is it worth buying an app like MacKeeper to improve its performance or is there a low tech way of accomplishing this?

    Hi Janet,
Whatever you do, stay away from Mackeeper...

OK, how much free space on the Hard drive at the moment?
This free tool may speed things up...
I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • How do I make sure wireless bridge is on *my* wifi network?!?

Suppose I have a wireless bridge from Linksys, which lets my network disk be on my home wifi network. It's set up to grab an address via DHCP. But, I'm thinking - my neighbor also has a wifi network. How do I make sure the disk is talking to my Linksyst router, not to others that may be in the vicinity? The router has a MAC address filter, and that's great but it's the wrong direction: how do I make sure my wireless devices aren't talking to other people's wifi routers?
    Mike

To prevent your wireless devices from accidently connecting to a neighbor's system, you must set up wireless security.
You will need to enter the following information in both your wireless router and your wireless devices:
    1)  a unique SSID - this identifies your network
    2)  your chosen method of encryption
    3)  your encryption key
You should be able to set your "network disk" (or the bridge that it is using) to only connect to the wireless system that matches 1, 2, and 3 above.
For more on wireless security, see my previous post at:
