How do I make my old user account perform like the new one?

I have a macbook pro 13" 2008 with 8 gb of ram that has been showing stuttering in hd video lately (or maybe when i upgraded to lion). I created another user and it doesn't seem to suffer any stuttering. Perhaps it doesn't have weird things running the background like the 655mb kernal task I see in activity monitor. My question is, how do I make my old user account perform like the new one? I've tried to turn off things running the background, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Thanks!

    Do the following:
Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless using iCloud Photo Library).  When finished goThen go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

There are '''major''' changes to the user interface in Firefox 4.
#The '''<u>MenuBar / Firefox button</u>'''. Turn on the Firefox 3 style Menu Bar on (Firefox button off) or turn the Menu Bar off (Firefox button on) using one of the following:
#*HOLD down the ALT key while pressing the keyboard letters VTM. The Menu Bar will appear as in Firefox 3.6. This places a check mark next to "Menu Bar".
#*Right-click in a blank space on a tool bar, click "Menu Bar" to check/un-checked (checked = display Menu Bar; un-checked = display Firefox button
#*Using the Menu Bar: View > Toolbars, click Menu Bar to check/un-check (on/off)
#*Using the Firefox button: click Firefox button > Options, click Menu Bar to check/un-check (on/off)
#'''<u>Tabs on top</u>''' (above other toolbars). To change Tab Bar to a position below the toolbars as in prior versions, click "Tabs on top" to check/un-check (on/off)
#*HOLD down the ALT key while pressing the keyboard letters VTT. This checks/un-checks (on/off) "Tabs on top".
#*Right-click in a blank space on a tool bar, click "Tabs on top" to check/un-checked (checked = Tabs are on top; un-checked = Tabs are below toolbars)
#*Using Menu Bar: View > Toolbars
#*Using Firefox button: click Firefox button > Options
#*Use one of the above procedures to again show "Tabs on top" (checked)
#'''<u>The Status Bar has been eliminated and replaced by the Add-on Bar</u>'''. You can restore some of the prior Status Bar functionality on the new Add-on Bar by
    #*installing the Status-4-Evar extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/
#*Be sure the Add-on bar is diplayed at the bottom of the Firefox 4 window

#**Menu Bar: Tools > Add-ons, click on Status4Ever, click Options, set options to your liking
#**Firefox button: click Firefox button, click Add-ons, scroll down to Status-4-Evar, click Options, set options to your liking
#Firefox 4.0 has a '''''combined''''' Go/Reload/Stop button that is positioned at the far right of the location bar.
#*During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button. If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.
#*You can middle-click that button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.
#*In Firefox 4.0 you can move the Stop/Reload button out of the location bar and put them wherever you want on the toolbar. You can also make them appear as separate buttons on the toolbar.
#** Open the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window to move them out of the location bar.
#** Swap the two buttons or move them to their previous position at the left of the location bar.
#** If the order is "Reload - Stop" to get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.

  • Will old iMac problems transfer to the new one?

My present Intel iMac is having firewire issues and past its warranty, so I'm going for a new iMac. In an effort to try and salvage the old one I wiped everything clean, reinstalled the the OS and restored from a Time Machine backup. Now I'm having problems that weren't there before, like not being able to open Mail, iTunes, or Safari.
The new iMac arrives on Monday, but I'm worried that whatever is wrong with the old computer will transfer into the new one. Any ideas on how to avoid this?

That's a good thought on the 3rd party apps. I'm taking inventory of all my disks and downloadable Apps now, and removing them so I can individually reinstall them on the new machine.
I checked out the permissions and everything seems to be OK. But still no luck on the those three apps. Mail opens, but crashes as soon as I try to read a message. And iTunes and Safari can't stay open at all. Interestingly enough, I'm trying other Mac apps like iCal, Garage Band and iPhoto and they're all still good.

    1. Want Thunderbird look (theme) from 2.0.0.24 Where is it and if not, please make it. I don't like the newer theme.
    2. When these newer Thunderbirds set up they do not, unless one knows about software, leave the choice of erasing email from the carriers site. Please fix so that with the automatic NON POP setup the option page lets you not save emails on the carrier's (outside computer). FIX THIS. The automatic setup should also offer POP. FIX THIS TOO

    1. Tools menu (ALT+T) > Add-ons > get add-ons and scroll to the bottom and look on the bottom right for complete thems
    2. The default is IMAP. If you want something else specify it to the wizard. Where the wizard is aware of both POP and IMAP you are offered a choice, but nothing stops you from manually specifying the account setting.
2a. Nothing will see the return of mail being removed from the server on download by default. To many expect their mail to stay on the server forever as a defacto backup. Rightly or wrongly the default was changed because people like me could no longer put up with the whining of people who were not happy their mail moved off the server.

  • How can I retrieve my old user account?

    Hi,
I migrated my old iMac to my new 27" iMac and did it wirelessly via the internet and it took ages. Apple support told me to do it this way because my old iMac is 400 Firewire and my new one only has 800 Firewire and I only had a 400 Firewire cord.
I was told to choose the no I don't want to migrate when I went through registering my computer. I then got it set up with internet and then went into Migration Assistant. I told the woman I spoke too that it was going to create a problem with my old user account and she said I could just delete it.
Here is my dilemma. My old user account is called Pink Tuley (which has all my information, documents etc. on it), I created a new account called Tuley and you guessed it it's a shell with nothing there. All my stuff in on Pink Tuley and when I go to MacintoshHD users and locate my Pink Tuley folder there are a bunch of folders that I can't open (they have that red circle with a white bar in the middle of them). How do I make Pink Tuley my main account or get all the Pink Tuley stuff onto my new Tuley account? I hope there is a way to figure this out.

    Niel,
Thanks that was easy. Now can I go and delete the new user account I created when I first registered this computer? I have a few user accounts from my old machine I don't use, can I delete those also or is it best to leave them alone?

  • How do i erase my old apple id and create a new one with a new email address

I forgot my phones Apple ID password and along with that forgot my password to my email account. I use my work email so thats why i dont really know the email i created for my phone.
So I created a new email and a new Apple ID online but when i put it the new Apple ID in my phone it says its incorect and shows my username as my old email that i had.  If that made any sense my entire question is how do i erase my old apple id on my phone and replace it with the new one i submittes online?

Contact Apple, either through the link in that article or by phoning them. Alternatively, just create a new Apple ID; previous iTunes Store purchases won't be transferred to it.

  • How do I replace my old internal hard drive with a new one?

I just ordered a new 1TB hard drive to replace my very small hard drive in my 17" MacBook Pro.
I've looked around at some of the discussions and apparently I need to format the new hard drive first.  I am not so great with this techy stuff.  Can someone briefly help me and explain exactly how I am supposed to do this?  Like I take my old hard drive out first put the new one in.... format it.  Take it out put the old one in... somehow copy it... agh confused...
    Help?  Thanks.

If you have a time machine back up of your current drive you can do this
Shut down your computer, install the new drive. While the computer is off plug in the external hard drive that you have your time machine back up on. Hold Option key while the computer turnes on, let go of the option key once you get a grey screen. Shortly after you'll see  a list of bootable drives, select the one that has your time machine back up on it and boot into that drive.
From there go into disk utility, format your new drive too, osx extended journaled ( I think, double check that, its been awhile since ive had to do this), hit format
Exit disk utility and then you can use time machine to copy all your exisit data to the new hhd and then your pretty much done.
There is also a program called Carbon Cloner that will do esentially the same thing however I've never uesed it.
