How do I make my Power MAC G5 wireless?

I have a Power Mac G5 - it does not have an airport card and I want to hook up a wireless adapter. I have been told I need an airport card but I am not sure what kind or where to go. Got any suggestions?

I used this on my G4 MDD, but also works with G5's and Intel Macs.

It's a pity you didn't keep a bootable clone of the drive.  The $100 in a backup drive  would have cost less than a replacement Leopard will.

  • How do I get the Power Mac Quicksilver 867mhz software?

I got the computer at a university surplus sale with no hard drive.  It seems to power on  fine but of course has no OS.  I put a hard drive in it and tried to load OS 10.3.5 from gray discs that came with an Ibook G4 but it said "bundled software cannot be installed on this computer."   The unit originally shipped with some version of OS 9xx.   What OS software will load on this machine to get it going?
    Thanks!!

    Tiger Requirements...
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
        * A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
        * Built-in FireWire
        * At least 256 MB of RAM (I recommend 1GB minimum)
        * DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
        * At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools  (I recommend 20GB minimum)

  • How do i fix this Power Mac G5?

I have a power mac g5, it can go to safe boot, but when i turn it on regularly it works fine with the sound until it the screen turns into the a blue blank screen or it turns into a grey screen with two black lines. What to do?

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport in 10.4 & below, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • How do I get my power mac g5 to see my WD Velociraptor WD5000HHTZ

I have purchased a new WD Velociraptor WD5000HHTZ for my Power Mac G5. No matter which tray I put it in on boot the Power Mac does not see the hard drive yet if I put it in an external drive it sees it no problem. Any Ideas.

According to this note SATA controller of your Mac is compatible with 1.5 Gb/s SATA drivers.
    Western Digital WD5000HHTZ is a SATA 6 Gb/s.

  • Can I adapt my Power Mac to wireless

I have inherited a Power Mac 6,1 G4 (I think) which I'd like to set up for the kids to use. It has wired internet, can I buy something to make it wireless (eg: a USB wireless adapter) if so, will any one work? Or do I have to look for specific specs? thanks

This one requires is advertised as USB 2, ask the vendor if you need USB 1:

  • Connecting Mac book pro to power mac via wireless network

I've bought a mac book pro and am now trying to transfer some files from my old power mac to the mac book, yesterday all I did was turn file sharing on and use finder to connect to the mac book through network on the side bar.
Today I try the same thing and it says "The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again."
I'm not interested in a work around I can probably find one myself, what I would like to know is where can I check what the power mac thinks the IP address of the mac book is? I can see the server name and that's right and I know the sharing options are the same as yesterday, Mac OS suggests you check these things but as I didn't set them and it found them on its own, where are they?
P.S. Why does it also offer me the option to "Fix Alias" for a network item when all that does is open finder for this computers so I can point it at something on the hard drive?

I suspect that you are using DHCP to distribute ip addresses on you LAN and that the MBP has a different ip address today than it did yesterday. You can find the new ip in the Network pane of System Preferences on the MBP. I can't figure out how to find out what the client thinks the ip of the MBP is, though. ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist contains an entry for the last server connected to, for example, but it doesn't seem to include the ip. I deleted a bunch of obsolete files from ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost recently, though, which might have included this so you might look there.

    No idea.

  • How do I make my desktop MAC address book override the older addresses in my iPhone?

I have the iPhone 3g and a MAC desktop with snow leopard OS.  I have updated iTunes.  When I try to synchronize my address book between iPhone and MAC desktop, the new contact information from the desktop is not put into the iPhone.  Is there an online tutorial that will show me how to do this?  Another problem, when I try to edit contact information, the Edit menu won't let me delete whole contacts.  Consequently, I have multiple phone numbers for a contact, some of which are old, some new...and I can't remember which, because I thought I had erased the old info.  I want to be able to set the desktop to override the iPhone data, and vice versa, when I want to.  By habit, I don't enter new data directly into my iPhone contact list; I do it from the desk top.
I would like to find online tutorial videos that show me how to use the various features of my iPhone.  The online text tutorials aren't as helpful for me, when something goes wrong.

To make your computer overwrite your iPhone contacts, connect the phone to iTunes, select the Info pane and scroll to the Advanced section at the bottom and put a check by Contacts.  Then sync.

  • How do I make my laptop Mac communicate with my iMac so that the calendars have the same events

I am trying to get my Macbook Pro to have the same events on the calendar that are on my imac as well as the contacts be the same.  Is it not iCloud that is suppossed to be doing that automatically?  If so, it is not on mine.  What do I have to do?

    Hi vinobeeno,
You have to make sure that you are signed onto the same iCloud account on both Macs, and that you have Contacts and Calandars turned on in iCloud on both Macs.
If the checked information is not getting pushed to both Macs, then try signing out and then back into iCloud on each one.
    Cheers,

  • How do I make sure my Mac doesn't have Google cookies even after utilizing Firefox preference tools?

Last week for a short time Firefox was requiring me to enable third party cookies when visiting sites that previously didn't require 3rd party cookies. I contacted the sites and they never required 3rd party cookies to be enabled. I did detect and delete a Google cookie through Firefox preference/privacy routines.
Was there an interim release that fixed this in Firefox since I'm not required to enable 3rd party cookies? Can I be confident that I don't have undetected Google cookies in my Mac?
    Thanks,
    Tim S.

Google made some changes to their website last week, which were reverted a few days later.

  • How can I make my new Mac always open JPGs, TIFFs, etc., in Photoshop not Preview?

This worked fine on my old Mac (OS X 10.8.5). I selected a JPG & went through these steps:  Open with > Other > Adobe Photoshop CS4 > click on “Always Open With”. After that, double-clicking on any JPG opened it in Photoshop. Same for TIFFs etc. On my new Mac (OS X 10.9.2), this works only for each individual file. I am in & out of Photoshop all day long & really need to be able to open photos by double-clicking on them. Help, please.

Your problem seems to have nothing really to do with Photoshop but be an OS issue.
Have you tried repairing permissions yet? (I’m not on Mac OS 10.9, but permission issues seem like a possible culprit.)

  • I have OSX 10.6.8 - how do I make room on mac HD for Lion?

I have a Mac Pro 1.1 with OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leoprad. I want to move all my music, photos, and videos to other hard drives so i will have more room in Mac HD for Lion etc. I have not been to do this. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

If you have a MacBook Pro 1,1 then forget it, stay on 10.6.8.
Use Carbon Copy Cloner and clone your OS X 10.6 boot volume to another blank GUID OS X extended formatted drive. (use the Secure Erase > Zero feature on the drive first to eliminate any bad sectors) this is your 10.6 clone so you can boot and use PPC based apps your going to lose going to 10.7/10.8 or to come back to 10.6 if you won't like the Lions.
Hold option key down on a wired keyboard to boot from the clone drive and check it out.
Next zero erase your entire 10.6 original boot drive holding option from the 10.6 installer disk
Reinstall 10.6 from the disks (same account name), reinstall iLife from the second disks and call Apple if you want to upgrade to 10.7 specifically but your MacPro 1,1 can go to 10.8 directly from AppStore.
Now your machine is bare bones, install your 10.8 compatible third party programs/upgrades etc.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
On another drive setup duplicate Music2, Pictures2, Movies2 and Document2 folders and copy your files from the clone into them. Thus only on the boot drive is programs and OS X, no files.
You can command drag items like the original Documents, Music, Pictures folders off the Finder window sidebar and use the Music2, Pictures2, Movies2 etc there instead. However some programs will still try to save things automatically in the original user folders.
When you launch say iPhoto in 10.8 against the older 10.6 iPhoto Library, it will update it.
This sounds like a lot more work, but it's really giving you a solid footing, a stable fast system and free of crapola.
I always take a extra mile in being through to eliminate as many potential issues as possible, as it's cheaper and less hassle than cure, my machines always run well and fast, even Windows ones.
