How do I make my RW DVDs rewritable?

When I back up data on my Mac onto -RW or +RW DVDs they become read only.
I have tried going onto Applications/Utilities/Disk Utilities and then clicking on the delete tab (to get rid of last week's back up on the disk) but the delete button doesn't highlight and I get a message saying that I don't have the right permissions.
When I try and alter the permissions the Mac won't let me do this either.
Nor can I get rid of last week's files by dragging and dropping them into the trash.
My method of burning DVDs is to insert the blank DVD, create a folder from the menu bar, drag and drop my documents into the folder and then drag the folder onto the DVD icon. I then click on burn disk on the menu bar.
I am definitely using RW disks and not just R and I have a new Mac laptop which is capable of burning - and +.
Help will be much appreciated (before I am snowed under with back up disks with personal info that I can't delete and are not throw away)
Thanks

  • S10e: How can I make my external DVD being detected to boot Recovery System

I bought an IDE-USB Adapter and connected a DVD to the Netbook. But the device is not found even by the BIOS, too.
So I can not install the System. In addition there will be no BIOS update available for LINUX to detect DVD drives if this is the problem.
How can I make my Recovery DVD run on my Lenovo Ideapad S10e?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    You use a normal 5 1/4 " DVD/CD drive,.it needs 12V dc did you powered the drive... ?
So the adapter is not recognized, thats bad ....the usb-ide adapter is defective....
    The second question is...
Linux cant use any .exe files ...its not windows... thats normal...
so what will you install on it ?
Biosupdate ? is the only one .. i think.. but that is a problem for lenovo... i didnt see an biosupdater under linux
Why you buy those expensive ide-usb adapter ?
you can get a slimline cd usb drive is available for 25 $ (or 25€) on online shopper...

  • After I edit my movie on cut pro how do I make a movie DVd

I am planning to buy iMac for video editing with final cut pro & after editing on what software do i make a  movie Dvd, & how good is the Final cut pro for professional movie editing

The software is very nice for pro movie editing ... as long as you do not have to bring in older Final Cut Studio projects.  It cannot work with the previous version project files.  In all other aspects, for doing very nice pro level work, it is very nice.  It is actually very easy to make DVDs with the software.  You do not need other software and everything can be done from within Final Cut Pro X on the Share menu ... the DVD option.  It's a very good pro level package for not a lot of money.  Furthermore, the way it works is the future of video editing.  It would be good to learn it if you plan to be in video production for a while.  Best wishes.

  • Exporting problem: How can I make a PAL DVD with NTSC footage?

    Hi everyone,
I need some help as I've been trying to burn a DVD for a couple of days now but it still isn't working. Here is my situation:
I shot a lot of standard definition DV with my Canon GL-2 (NTSC, bought in America) that I imported into the trial version of Premiere 5.5.
I edited the footage and set out to make a DVD with the footage that will play on PAL televisions as I live in Australia now and it's all PAL over here.
I exported the footage and put it onto Windows DVD Maker because the trial version of Premiere doesn't let you use Encore.
The footage looked great on Premiere and on the little preview that you get through Windows DVD Maker, but when I burnt the DVD and tried playing it on my TV it looked really bad.
The big problem was the color. Everything was much too red, particularly people's faces.
I assume the problem lies in my export settings, and I was hoping someome who has done this before could help me out. I tried a variety of settings, but they all looked bad and I'd prefer not to waste any more money on DVDs that look like hell.
Is there anyone out there who can tell me how I can get the DVD to look like it does on my computer? What setting would I need to apply? I have been all over the internet, looking at a lot of tutorials and forums, but havent found an answer yet.
    Thanks a bunch!
    Shawn
PS- My academic credentials have now been verified by Adobe, so if you know a way to do this using Encore, please let me know because in a few hours I will have access to that as well. Cheers!

Hey shooternz, thanks for the fast reply.
My DVD player is playing the DVDs so that's OK, the real problem is that they look so bad. I just bought a whole mess of DVDs because I thought I would just experiment while I was waiting to see if anyone could help me out, and the results have been frustrating. I tried it with all PAL settings and the first DVD I made was much better. That one didnt have all of the sections, just one of the chapters (I wanted to check quickly whether the setting I had was a good one, so I just put a short 7 minute clip on). Encouraged, I tried burning the whole disc using the same settings, but it came out crappy again. Much too red. This is really frustrating me. My computer is new, so I can't see why there would be any problem with the DVD burner, but if two DVDs with the same export settings are coming out differently, I'm thinking it might have to be a problem with either the DVD burner or the DVDs?
Can anybody suggest anything? I'm dying here.

  • How do I make a HD DVD that plays on PC?

    Is this possible?
I have an .mov that is h.264 1280x720.
Is it possible to make a DVD of this in DVDSP that plays on PC's?
I was able to make one with HD DVD Standard, but that only plays on mac.
I'm sure there is something that I am missing or unaware of.

No, you do not want H.264 file at all. And if you do use a H.264 it will re-encoded as a MPEG-2 file, which means it will be double compressed, which always results in a loss in quality. Also be aware that you are working in SD resolution, which means 740x480 for NTSC video, not 1280x720.

  • How do I make a simple DVD with chapters?

I have a quicktime sequence that is saved with chapter markers exported from Final Cut Pro. The sequence is about 1hr30 min long, and has about 70 chapter markers. I just need a simple DVD that can play through the whole sequence, or have the ability to have an index where I can jump to any chapter. How can I do this...especially without using one of Apple's pre-designed templates? Is this something I could also do in iDVD?

If you don't want to use an Apple-designed template, I'm not sure why you would want to do it in iDVD, as you can only use templates there.
You need to go through the tutorial, first of all, to get familiar with the program.
Then, you would import your movie that was exported with DVD chapter markers. Create however many menus you want (I would say 7-10) with 7-10 buttons on each. Link each button to hop to the appropriate chapter marker. Also provide a "play all" button on the first menu, or each menu, that links to the beginning of the track.
If you want video thumbnails, you'll need to size buttons accordingly and may need to have less buttons per menu.
PS: with that many chapters I'm not sure I'd classify this project as "simple." Simple in design, maybe, but it'll be quite a bit of work.

  • How do I make an I-DVD Project not start automatically?

When making a DVD, I export from I-movie into I-dvd. I configure the project and save. After I burn the dvd and put it in a DVD player it automatically starts playing without going to the chapter menu. Any idea how to correct? Thanks

Enter the Map   mode and drag the item that is in the Auto Play bin in the upper seft hand corner of the window.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality final product:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How can I make a simple DVD in iDvd?

I have 17 video segments that I would like to autoplay in order and then have a simple titled menu come up at the end and so all 17 segments as thumbnails in case a reply of one of the segments is required.
    THx for any thoughts...
    Mike

You won't be able to get all 17 on one menu page. It will require a sub menu/s also. Most themes range from 6-12 buttons. But the good news is once you have compiled your iDvd project, you can drag and drop said movie to the first box while in map view within iDvd and it will play the dvd once inserted into most dvd players. The menu will indeed pop up at the end provided you do Not select the loop function also.
Hope this info helps but if not just come on back.

  • How can I make sucesfuly a DVD on Final Cut Pro

Hi I wonder wo can help with this problem

If you have finished a project export it as a quicktime movie...the higher the quality of this movie, the better will be the quality of the DVD you get. I have found out that the codec Pro Ress 4444 gives a high quality of DVD than a movie with a Pro Ress 422 {HQ} codec.
After you have your exported movie, right click upon the file and click the option burn to disc...see the screenshots given below:
    Happy burning!

  • How do I make a PAL DVD?

I'd like to export a project from Final Cut Express into iDVD and would like to burn the disc in PAL format for viewing in India. What setting changes in Final Cut Express and iDVD do I need to make this happen correctly?
    Message was edited by: phojo3

You need to do a Standards Conversion to do it properly.
But you can just stay in NTSC as it will work with PAL playback gear.
FCE or iDVD cannot perform Standards Conversions.
You can use third party apps but usually you have to pay $$$.

  • How did I make a Hybrid DVD - it had HD & SD content

Hi. I created a project about a year+ ago that contains HD & SD options. When I pop it into my mac it says "This is a Hybrid Disc" would you like to watch in Standard Definition or High Definition.
I need to do that same thing again but cannot remember how it was done, and the manual has no information on it that I can find. So any ideas would be great.

Right - the \only way I can think of is that you created the HD version frst, and saved it on to your hard drive. You then created the SD version and added the HD folder to your SD project as a ROM-Data folder. This would include the video_ts, audio_ts from the SD project and (if you do it correctly) the HVDVD_TS folder at the root of the disc as well.
To create this you must have made a SD project and included the HD folder as ROM material - it won't work the other way round. The disc will contain both types of content, but it won;t be a true HD disc.
I'm intrigued - how does it play back?

  • Edu DVD in computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Educational DVD added successfully to computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Thanks!  For whatever bizarre reason for which I have no answer - I sync'd my iPad to my MBP the old fashion way (not iCloud) and the movie showed up just fine.  It is Nikon camera 'how to' video. I like to watch them for a better indepth discovery of what the camera can do.  The only weird thing about the hard wire sync is that it was placed in a catagory "home movies" which was never there before...actually it showed up in two places "home movies" and TV shows.
    So, thanks anyway!  Pretty cat!

Unfortunately, the recording & movie industry does not respect the rights of the people who make them money, and thus you can only use the paid-for content in ways they see fit. Even if I lived in a bunker where no one else could possibly see the movie I paid for, therefor I'm not 'sharing it illegally', I would still not be allowed in a blue moon to copy that movie to DVD for TV viewing. Someone will tell you to get an AppleTV. How about Apple give us one for free? Until this changes, people wanting to use their content in multiple locations will continue to download music & movies via torrents, legally or illegally.

  • I want to use my DVD from my WIndows 7 Computer to install Office 2011 for Mac.  How do I make this work?

I want to install Mac Office from my DVD drive located on my Windows 7 computer.  How do I make this work?

Well, it sounds as though you are trying to install Windows software on a Mac computer.
If that's really what you want to do, you have another project to do first. You could use Apple's Boot Camp software or 3rd party software such as Parallels or VMWare. If so, you have some reading and research to do.
Or maybe you are trying to use Remote Disc? Here is a link to using Remote Disc for Windows:

I hope that this gets you started. Good luck.
