How do I make the SMTP server stay changed?

The SMTP setting used to send mail could not be changed.
The pref window comfirmed that the change had been made and was correct
BUT after exiting Pref's and trying to send a message a window shows the old SMTP appeared.
When trying to select the correct SMTP it was NOT listed even though it was correctly shown in pref pain.

I don’t fully understand what you say, but you may go to Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit Server List from the popup menu, and delete any servers you don’t want to be there.

I don't believe mounting the hard drive should be necessary, unless you have several external drives and want your computer to recognise them as folders, rather than drives. I've never had to mount a hard drive, ever. If you don't know how to do it, then it shouldn't be necessary now.
Try this:
Prepare iTunes so that it can see the external drive.
Make a note of which drive-letter the external drive has been allocated. (Look in Windows Exploer)
Look at the file location for a song. Make sure it plays (and therefore that iTunes has found it). Highlight it and select File/Get Info/Summary>Where: and make a note of the drive letter for that song.
Close and shut down the computer.
The next time you turn the computer on again, connect the external drive
Before you start iTunes - check the external drive in Windows Explorer. Is it ready, does it have the same drive-letter that it had last time? Can you go into the drive and see the files on it?
Once you can, start iTunes. (If the drive lettter has changed, you need to work out why before going any further.)
If iTunes fails to find your external drive, you need to check where iTunes is looking for your Library.
Select the same song you checked before (presumably iTunes can no longer find it). Follow the procedure for locating it. You should be able to see where iTunes thinks the file is. It's the drive that counts. Which drive letter is iTunes looking at? Is it the same one that it was previously (which should also be the same one that the drive has now).

How can I make the web server work on port 80 and not 443. I can only access my website using https.

On a Mac Mini server with OS X Lion 10.7.2, I am unalbe to get the web server working on port 80. It switches automatically to port 443 (https).
This situation complicates the access to FileMaker Web publishing, as I don't want my clients having to use https.
How can I change that? Does anyone know?

Well, that's a problem for a start.
Your port 80 connection should NOT use SSL. Port 80 is the standard HTTP port, not HTTPS and most applications that connect to port 80 will not expect to use SSL
If you want to run a site under both HTTP and HTTPS then you create two sites, one on port 80 without SSL and one on port 443 with SSL

I'd like to have the lock screen stay active for longer than 5 seconds. Too many times I've not seen a notification come through. I'd like to have it stay on for at least 5 minutes for shutting down. How do I find the SMTP server number in my MB Pro mail program?

For some unknown reason my mail program is just now asking for a password when I attempt to send an email. I verified the password with my ISP. When I go to the Mail program/Preferences/Accounts I see a screen that has three sections. The third section offers "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)" but offers no box allowing a server number such as 587... Why is that option missing? What is likely causing this sudden request for a password?

I did that and and chose "Use custom port" and entered 587. Still is asking for a PW but when entered it tells me that the server will not accept the password thus will not sent the email. I can send and receive using my PC.
I also can receive emails on the Mac.. So, something else is "set" incorrectly.. ????

I do not use a holster but would like the standby mode (pressing mute) to use the holster profile settings. Or if this is not possible is there any way to make it automatically change ringer profiles when placed in standby? Standby option is capable of doing so. That wish can be materialized only if you use holster.

While installation OAS i entered the name of the actual working SMTP- Server.
Sending mails worked fine until today.
Now the name of the SMTP- Server has changed and i wanted to change it(the name) in the Application Server, but i didn't find one/all place(s) where i had to change the name(s) of the SMTP- Server.
Is there anyone who can help me??

Try this.
Check your username and password in the outgoing mail server setting. Fill it in even of it says that it's optional.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>choose the email account>account name, tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email username and password and see if that works for you.

As I said mail servers do have management interfaces. You need to find one and then determine what the management interface is.

I already have a how-to-guide that that seems to explain the steps quite well. However, it mentions that I need to know the SMTP Server of the email. Can you tell me how to find out about the SMTP Server? Where do I need to look for the name of it?

you need the SMTP server of your company. This means you can't look for it in the portal, but have to ask the responsible person in your company.

It depends on the operating system you are using. If you are using *nix then sendmail needs to be configured.
