How do I make the tool/search bars/icons bigger?

I have managed to enlarge the text in email and other apps but the tool and search bars are so small I can't read them. Is there a way to set the default setting to increase the size of the tool and search bars and icons?

Hi j laporte
You can change your system appearance in several places.
If you want to increase the size of all your system fonts, decrease the resolution of your screen. You do this by going to System Preferences, then Displays. Bring your resolution down until you get to a comfortable size.
Or, for desktop icons only - click on the desktop to bring the Finder into focus, then go to the View menu,and click Show View Options. There, you can change the icon and text size for desktop icons.
Or, for Safari only - go to the Safari menu - Preferences - Appearance - and change the standard and fixed-width font sizes to a comfortable level.
Hope that helps.

    You can't. It's now integrated with the URL bar. It's a search/URL combo.

  • Is there a way to make the tolbars, tabs and icons bigger in Firefox 4?

    Is there a way to make the tolbars, tabs and icons bigger in Firefox 4?

    Yes right click on a toolbar, the customize option allows ordinary or small icons.
    Other options are to look at Operating System settings, or to adjust some of the Firefox preferences, and I also note mention of an add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer
    Additionally there are add-ons that change content size.

    If anyone does change the ''layout.css.devPixelsPerPx'' in Firefox 4 I would be interested in what happens, there is a possible bug as mentioned in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/791213 4.0RC1 - Bookmark hover fault]

  • HT2490 How do I make the top tab bar stay on the screen all the time

    How do I make the top bar stay on the screen all the time?

    "Top tab bar"?
    The top of the screen is where the applications menus appear on the left and system icons (time, volume. etc) appear on the right side.
    This entire area is "covered over" when you enter into "Full Screen" mode. You can expose it while still in full screen by moving your cursor over the area.

  • How do I make the tool bar displays look like Firefox 3.6?

    I have gotten used to the order of the tool bars and would like to make them look like the previous version of Firefox (3.6). Is there a way to move them up or down in FF 4.0?

    #<u>If you are not seeing the Menu Bar (File, Edit, View History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help)</u> hold down the ALT key while pressing the three keyboard letters VTM.
    #*<u>To turn off the Menu bar at any time and use the Firefox button</u> (click on it to drop down the new Menu), click View > Toolbars, click on Menu Bar to remove the check mark. You can always turn it on again using the ALT+V+T+M in step 1 above.
    #<u>To move the tabs below toolbars</u>, click View > Toolbars, click "Tabs on top" to un-check it. '''''NOTE: Instead of View > Toolbars, you can click in any blank space on any toolbar to open the dialog.'''''
    #<u>To display other toolbars not being displayed</u>, repeat this process View > Toolbars and click on items that do not have a check mark; that will place a check mark next to those items and cause them to be displayed.
    #<u>To move items around on the toolbars</u>, you can drag them to the desired location when the Customize Toolbar window is open: View > Toolbars > Customize.
    #'''<u>The Reload/Refresh button and the Stop button have been "unified/combined" on the right end of the URL/Location/Address bar</u>''' (where you type a site address).
    #*When the Customize Toolbar window is open (View > Toolbars > Customize), the two separate buttons are shown between the URL/Location/Address bar and the Search bar. You can drag those 2 buttons wherever you want them but the order is important when the two are adjacent to one another (side-by-side) :
    #**Refresh/Reload on the left and Stop on the right, the buttons will be "unified/combined"
    #**Stop on the left and Reload/Refresh on the right, the buttons will be separated
    #**If left between the URL/Location/Address bar and the Search bar:
    #***Refresh/Reload on the left and Stop on the right, the buttons will be "unified/combined" as part of the URL/Location/Address bar on the right end of it
    #***Stop on the left and Refresh/Reload on the right, the buttons will be individually shown outside and to the right of the URL/Location/Address bar

  • How do you make the Safari menu bars at the top and bottom of the browser go away in iOS7 when you can't scroll the screen?

    The menu bar at the bottom of Safari screens only goes away if you scroll the screen.  But for one page content, the screen can't be scrolled which renders useless any links/buttons at the bottom of the page.
    Is there a fix for this in iOS7?
    In iOS6, users needed only to tap the screen to remove the Safari menu bars.  This does not work in iOS6.

    In Safari > View choose Exit Full Screen

  • How do I make the red-green-yellow icons and the text in window title bars larger?

    The title text is a little too small to just see - I have to concentrate on it to read it - and I can't tell the red-green-yellow icons apart without staring at them. Yes, my sight is quite poor; I'm already sitting as close as I can.

    sorry about the slang display portal, i just mean the entire screen, like a magnifying glass. There is probably a keystroke, and it's probally all in here:
    I do agree it's a concern, as I have a torn retina, and my eye gets strained quickly.

  • How do I make the height of my cells bigger? I am trying to put togther a guest list for my wedding.

    I have worked with excel in the past and it seems easier to manuever through. I am wondering if I should purchase it for MAC? I need to get my guest list done ASAP and I can't figure out how to make the cells bigger. Please help! Thank you!

    Tolf,
    I'll add one method to Wayne's list that you may find helpful in some certain situations. Begin by eliminating all the unnecessary rows and columns by grabbing the Add Rows/Columns grip at the lower right hand corner of the table and dragging it up and left until it stops. All the rows and columns with no content will now be gone.
    Now you have a table with just the minimum necessary rows and columns. Select the table object by clicking on once on the table name in the Sheets Pane or by clicking on the grip in the upper left corner of the table.
    You should now be seeing the 8 sizing handles, little open squares. They are at the 4 corners and in the middle of the 4 sides.
    Grab one of these sizing handles and drag it to change all of the cell sizes at once. If you grab one of the corners you can change the height and width simultaneously. If you just grab a side, you'll just change the spacing of the lines parallel to that side.
    If your level of ASAP precludes you from having time to work with Numbers, you can download the free trial of Office for Mac, or you can download one of the free Office clones, like LibreOffice. They would be more familiar to you in the short run.
    Good luck with your wedding planning.
    Jerry

  • How do you remove the Google search bar in new tab? Walk me through it in baby steps please.

    I've seen a few ways of removing it. Something about a chrome folder and ccs or something. Sorry but I don't understand any of it. I thought Firefox was supposed to be super easy to customize.

    Note that you can also do this with code in the <b>userContent.css</b> file.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/userContent.css
    <pre><nowiki>@-moz-document url(about:newtab){
    #newtab-margin-top, #newtab-search-container { display: none !important; }
    </nowiki></pre>
    The customization files userContent.css (websites) and userChrome.css (user interface) are located in the <b>chrome</b> folder in the Firefox profile folder.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_configuration
    * Create the chrome folder (lowercase) in the <xxxxxxxx>.default profile folder if this folder doesn't exist
    * Use a plain text editor like Notepad to create a (new) userContent.css file in this folder (the names are case sensitive)
    * Paste the code in the userContent.css file in the editor window
    * Make sure that you select "All files" and not "Text files" when you save the file via "Save file as" in the text editor as userContent.css.<br>Otherwise Windows may add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with a not working userContent.css.txt file

  • How to automatically make the file search pop up automatically list files alphabetically?

    When I try to attach a file to an email a pop up window appears to search for a file. I have many files in My Documents but they all appear in some random order. I can right click and sort by name but I have to do this every time. I also tried going into File > Open File and the same thing, its in a random order.
    When I open the folder through Windows everything is in alphabetical order and I've also tried opening several programs like Word, IE, Chrome and when I search for a file everything is in alphabetical order. Only Firefox does this.

    I got a reply from another forum, which says:
    Use event/listener pattern in Java.
    interface xxEventListener{
    public void searchFinished();
    SearchProgressDialog extends JDialog implements xxEventListener {
    public void searchFinished() {
    dispose();
    add "fireEvent()" and "addxxEventListener(..)" to SwingWorker class
    when search finished, fireEvent to all registered listener.
    You may need a new class xxEvent, depending on whether you want add infomation
    to the event, such as "succ" or "fail".

  • Clearing the Address Search Bar

    How do I clear the Address Search Bar history?

    Resetting Safari doesn't do anything to reset the Address Search.
    The Reset is not designed to clear the URL prompts. As I mentioned, these prompts are fed from a number of sources. Short of eliminating your bookmarks, history etc. the prompts are here to stay. Clearing your history and cache ought to eliminate those prompts not associated with existing bookmarks, but that's only temporary. Also, there may be other sources feeding the prompts.
    Space bar is by far the easiest (although not very convenient) way to avoid seeing the prompts.

    Yikes!
    Many users will see references to an application called MacKeeper on various web sites and via pop-ups (and even re-directs) on their browser. Not only is it expensive for what it purports to do (freeware applications that do the same or more are readily available and in fact make up a large part of MacKeeper), it can sometimes install itself without the user realising it, and it can be very tricky to get rid of.
    Most positive reviews of it have been found to have been paid for by Zeobit (developers of MacKeeper) in the form of ‘free upgrades’ etc. For example (posted by fellow contributor Softwater), on their Facebook page and on their webpage they have this apparent endorsement from UNC Charlotte:
    https://discussions.apple.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-18670779-12515 7/450-259/Screen+Shot+2012-06-17+at+17.04.04.png
    Softwater contacted the Director of IT at the College of Arts and Architecture UNC Charlotte, about whether they endorse MacKeeper and his response, quoted here, was:
    No, please do not download and install MacKeeper. We have seen problems with this software in the past.
    MacKeeper has been described by various sources as highly invasive malware* that can de-stablize your operating system, adding that it is unethically marketed by a company called Zeobit, with a history of making false advertising claims backed up with paid-for reviews, and a rip-off. One such opinion is:
    http://themacschool.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/mackeeper-is-scam.html
    Further opinion on it and how to uninstall MacKeeper malware can be read here:
    http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/09/21/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-malware/
    MacKeeper have recently said that the uninstaller from here:
    http://applehelpwriter.wordpress.com/2011/09/21/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-malwa re/
    now works.
    This is also worth reading:
    http://www.reedcorner.net/news.php/?p=245
    Equally phoney was iAntivirus:
    http://www.reedcorner.net/news.php/?p=341
    until it was purchased recently (May 2012) by Symantic (makers of Norton anti-virus which does not work well with Apple OS X). Even after having tinkered with it, iAntivirus still fails to do the job properly and cannot be recommended.
    There are no viruses that can affect Apple OS X and there is therefore no reason to run anti-virus software on a Mac, but a Mac, like all computers, can transmit viruses and malware to other users particularly those running Windows. Note, however, that Trojans are another matter and can represent a genuine threat, an example of which was the recent 'Flashback Trojan' which you can read more about here:

    For further information you may find this User Tip on Viruses, Trojan Detection and Removal, as well as general Internet Security and Privacy, useful:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2435
    The User Tip (which you are welcome to print out and retain for future reference) seeks to offer some guidance on the main security threats and how to avoid them.
