How do I make two spot colour distinct channels?

I have an image of a yellow pencil and type on the pencil. I want to make it a duotone in yellow and black, the type on the pencil is in black. I have made two spot channels, one of the yellow pencil and the second of the black type. It appears without any detail of the pencil in a solid colour and I want it to show the detail. Any suggestions please?

Without actually seeing it, it sounds like you need a grayscale image of the pencil with the black text on a layer above. Then create a selection for the yellow areas, save the selection and change the alpha to a spot yellow channel.

I am using InDesign 4.05 on OSX10.4.11. I have been using InDesign since 1.52 and have always regarded the program as exceptionally bug-free apart from lately as I use CS2 more and more. I am reluctant to upgrade to CS3 just yet.
I am pretty sure I have never seen this behaviour before. If I import an eps of a logo which only consists of two spot colours, the colours are added to the swatches but show as CMYK. Of course if I preflight it then wrongly shows that the doc is CMYK only. If I then create a PDF and then check the PDF in seps view in Acrobat, the colours are showing as CMYK???? I have checked and rechecked the logo with the spot colours in it in Illustrator CS. They are 100% definitely showing as spot. If someone else told me this I would not have believed them - please tell me I am not going mad. What could cause this?
ps. I have another piece of extremely odd behaviour too, which I will do as a separate post.

I have no trouble at all placing that EPS in CS2. Both spot colours show up.
I distilled it and checked in Acrobat, too.
The only problem is that the lower right yellow bit is *not* a spot colour in Ai.
The detail that the colour names are added to the swatches when you import the EPS indicates that the spots are in there.
That leaves only the conclusion that something is wrong woth your Id document e.g. there are process-swatches of the same name before you place the eps.

Buko would certainly and definitely say so. That's why I quoted him ;)
Most of the rest of us think there are special workflows where working with eps still makes sense but the are rather few and when only Ai and Id are involved Ai is almost always the better choice.

You can do it with columns, just make the gutter twice the width of the outside margins.
However being a Flyer why not just create one on the left using Textbooks and Shapes then group that and option shift drag it sideways to the right to make a copy on the right?

you should copy the clip (edit>copy) from the project that has the clip as its whole, save and close that project, then make the new one that needs to be only a portion of your clip, paste the clip (edit>paste), and edit it. this is either the answer to your questoin, or i dont understand your questoin.

You can superimpose, 3, 4, or more such 'overlaps' on the same clip, and spend a happy afternoon tapping away for each track in the Offset Boxes until you have got them all in the right place! You can even overlap them, if you can remember (or note down - hire a secretary to take notes) which track you want on top etc.
Save the completed QT file. Import the completed file into a new iMovie project. Import this into the original iMovie project, substituting the old clip you copied to QT as Main Clip for the new fancy clip you have made.

How do I make two audio clips from different mics sound the same in premiere?

I have a video I am working on. we used two different mic and camera options. One is a lavaliere mic that was too hot and picked up a lot of fuzz, and the other was an on board mic that was just a little echoey from the office walls. I found that some clips were better on different versions. so I want to put the two different sets next to each other in video and make the sound be the exact same. That way no one notices the differences in audio.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi. Although not perfect, I'd add an audio mixer effect and adjust the highs, mids & lows on both of them to help their audio, respectively, sound more similar. Often when I shoot, my Boom mike (backup) is much fuller sounding than the lavs. are. Lavs are inherently lacking in the low end, and the boom is often too hot on the low end. So I would add Audio Mixer effect, and lower the low end on the boom slightly, and highten the low and mids just a bit on the lavs. Even taking a little highs off the lavs makes it sound a bit more like the boom.
As far as echo is concerned, you probably can't do to much about that unless you have an external graphic equalizer/limiter. Lot's of times I just add some music in the background, which helps a lot to hide echo from the mics.
Finally if you tape/record/film in a location that has lots of background noise like, background people, cars or rain or wind or general white noise "hiss", then you should record a minute or two of the location without any dialogue. This is is known as "Wala" recording. You can add a little of this to your whole track, or just on the mike track that doesn't seem to pick up the ambient sound, thus making it sound more like your other mike.

I'm currently making a animation of space invaders, however I have encountered an issue. I need to be able to have all the space invaders move, and with each movement change shape. My original plan was to use two models and change their opacity every 15 frames from 0 to 100 so one would be at 100 opacity while the other would be at 0. I can't figure out how to do this other than to go through it frame by frame, changing the movement and opacity, and I have to believe there is any easier way to do this. I need the opacity to change from 0 to 100 with no transition (So 0-100 not 0-20-40-60-80-100).
Any help is appreciated!

you can do this with expressions. For fun I played around with a test animation
to do this you would have 2 precomps for each row of aliens depicting the two (one comp has the first alien look, the second comp has the second look all in the same position as the first)
the two comps are placed in a master comp, positioned vertically to where you want them.
this expresion would go in the position parameter of both comps. it starts horizontal positioning at 0 and increments 100 every 15 frames

Like I said, I just threw it together to show how expresions could solve it. Ideally you would need some code in the posion to shift down and reset horizontal position to 0 every so often

How do I make two page spreads export correctly to pdf with a book file?

I have a book I am working on in the book pallet. I have several documents in the book and have it set to auto update page numbers and keep it all organized, which is all good. However, when I export to pdf, though the page numbers and order is correct, for some reason, if it is an odd number of pages I get spread, spread, single page, spread.
Just how the first page is always single, any last pages of a document that has an odd number of pages always gets singled out and the next document resumes in spread format. This is all in one pdf file, which I exported from the book pallet with none of the documents selected or open. I have the box for spreads checked, and it is doing spreads, but just not linking documents as spreads.

You can use a multipage importer to import a single Page PDF into InDesign.
Create a single page PDF
Create a facing pages document the same size as your original file
Multi-page place the entire pdf into facing pages (automatically done by script)
Export entire book to PDF as spreads.

I say to do this with a singe pages PDF - because I don't think it will import multiple InDesign files, you'd have to place them individually - and with my experience it takes longer to import multiple indesign files - so I just use a single pages PDF.
