How do I manage local device storage in Settings? I get a message that I do not have enough local storage when attempting to update Apps, and need to manage local storage.
How do I manage local device storage in settings? I know how to get into Settings, of course, but not how to proceed beyond that. Thanks.
Go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage and check to see how much storage you have used.
If you are deleting apps and other content, something about that message doesn't seem right to me. What are you trying to do when you get this message? Take photos? Shoot a video?
Try quitting the camera app completely and restart the iPad. See if the message goes away.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

I am trying to upgrade from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and I get a message that I do not have enough memory. I recently bought a 2TB WD back-up drive and backed up the entire computer. Now how do I free up more memory to allow me to install the new software?
First thing to try is emptying the trash to get more space.
Go to the Finder -> File Menu -> Empty Trash.
This will free up some space.
Next look at your Download folder. Click on "Size" to sort by largest to smallest. This is where you have downloaded files over time and you should be able to delete a good amount of them, if you don't need them any more, to clear up space. Select the files you want to get rid of and hit "Command-Delete". This will move them to the Trash. You will then need to Empty the Trash again.
You can also look through your documents for large files. Do the same think, click on "Size" in the finder window to sort by largest to smallest.
Lastly, look at your applications folder. Unlike a PC, you can just Delete applications. Now certain data will still remain, but the bulky items will go away by doing the same "Command-Delete" on the applications you don't want.
Don't forget, after you have deleted things, you need to Empty the Trash. -
Why am I constantly getting the message that I don't have enough storage space? I have upgraded to the 50GB storage plan and I am still getting the message. Help?
That message refers to storage on your iPhone, not cloud storage. You will need to move content off your phone to make more space.

It specifically says "Your changes cannot be saved because you don't have permission to modify some or all of the items in this folder. Do you want to save a copy of this item in the default folder for the item?" when I try to add to the iCloud calendar on my PC.
Don't know if you fixed this yet but I found a solution that sort-of makes sense.
We installed the iCloud control panel on Windows 7 to sync my client's Outlook 2010 Contacts and Calendar to his IOS devices. Crazy thing is we got this "Your changes cannot be saved..." message whenever he tried to save a calendar event. But this error would only occur when the event had a start and stop time. All day events were OK.
After scratching our heads for an hour I asked him to create a calendar event on his iPhone. It synced properly to Outlook and when I opened the item it showed the Time Zone - which wasn't shown on the event when we created one on the Outlook calendar first.
So the fix was to set the default Time Zone (ours would only work if it was Eastern Time (US & Canada.)) Apparently Outlook includes the Time Zone in its calendar update logic and if it is missing it inappropriately throws the 'Permission' error.
These apps have become too complicated ;(

How do I download a movie to my iphone 3G? When I click 'rent' in itunes, I get a message that there is not enough available local storage, but I can manage storage on my device in 'Settings'. I have activated icloud, but don't know how to change my storage so that I can rent and watch the movie on my phone. thanks for any help you can give.
I always do my Rentals with the itunes program on the computer.
Make rental from itunes store. It will show in movies under library, DO NOT click to play it. Plug in the device to the computer. Click the name of the device on left. Click on movies. There is an option to copy to the device. Sync. obviously you still need space on ipad to put rental but you can have it take computers hard drive space until you need it. -
I tried to download the latest upgrade to iOS8 on my iPad. Message said that I did not have enough space. I bought 20 G more storage and it still will not download. How do I download iOS8. I am now running iOS 7.1.2.
You delete content from the iPad and/or update it from iTunes on a computer.
iCloud space is separate from that on the device.

And maybe you don't talk to too many people but I've been on many forums on different websites where people have had similar problems and a lot of people in the store were having battery problems where they were draining too fast. What I learned is that all the people who did not download the updates are good. There phone is working the same. The people who have, they're having battery problems
I have downloaded every update and my battery life is better than any previous iPhone I have ever owned. I see posts from hundreds of people every day, and this is not a commonly reported problem. While there are a few random reports of battery problems, it is no more than I have seen for any other model or any other version of iOS in almost 8 years. Usually problems of rapid battery drain can be traced to bad apps (FaceBook is the worst offender) or corrupt data being synced from iCloud or other sources (gmail, Windows Live, Yahoo, etc).
The simple test is to restore the phone as New. Do not create any email accounts. Do not install any apps. Do not enable FaceTime or iMessage. Do not enable Twitter or any other social networking app. Use it for a day and check the battery usage. You will find that it is working well.
And also see this: http://www.overthought.org/blog/2014/the-ultimate-guide-to-solving-ios-battery-d rain. It is the best treatise I have seen on the subject of battery usage. -

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
You will need a minimum of 10-12 GBs of free space to install Yosemite, however, that is a bare minimum and should be at least twice that amount. -
I just upgraded to Yosemite. Now when I try to open one particular document in Excel, I get a message that there's not enough memory. I can open other documents. The document I can't get to is the spreadsheet of my passwords. Go figure. When I check the storage under "about this Mac" it says I have 150 GB of 249 GB. I have a MacBook Air. Help please. Thanks, Connie

I have an iMac OS 10.9.5 - Every time I turn on my system I get the message that it can not access icloud and to fix it using iCloud preferences. I do not want to access or use iCloud, how do I get the message to discontinue?
Hello mrmacjohn,
Verifying that any iCloud account that may be signed in is signed out should resolve this error.
On your Mac, open iCloud preferences, then click Sign Out.

I have iPhoto 11 with Lion and when I try to post photos into MobileMe in Share I get the message that iPhoto is not connected to internet. Can anyone tell me how to connect iPhoto to internet?
My solution, which is not much, is to restart iPhoto and it then connects to the Internet. This has been an ongoing unsolved problem.

On my firefox start up screen, I get the message that I am not running the latest. It asks that I upgrade now. However, under "about firefox," I am running 9.01, the latest version. I'd like to know why I'm getting this message and how I can get rid of it.
Thank you.Hi jerzyguitar,
You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. That page is no longer being maintained by Google.
You should try changing your home page to:
about:home
If you don't know how to change the home page, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]].
Hopefully this helps -
