Hi how do you manage an Ipod and Iphone on the same computer?
I have my ihpone but for running and cycling i also have my ipod nano, every time i connect one or the other it wipes songs that i want to keep?

create a playlist for each device and sync only that playlist.
i'm syncing four mobile devices to iTunes and each has its own playlist. works like a charm.

  • How can I manage 2 ipods on one Itunes library?

I'm sure this must have been answered elsewhere but I can't find a difinitive answer...
I have an ipod which I want to keep at home and am thinking of buying a Nano for when I'm out. How do you manage the two devices when obviously one carries vastly fewer songs?
I read somewhere that you need two itunes accounts but surely there are loads of people now with a large capacity device plus a smaller one - is it not easier than that having two seperate accounts now?

  • HT1351 how do I manage multiple iPods (mine and my children's) on one computer?

Hi--my children recieved iPODs for Christmas and now I'm faced with managing 3 iPODs on my laptop.  How do I keep the accounts/playlists/syncs separate?
    Thanks

The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways for managing the media content. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iDevices using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their device. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed and need rebuilding. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

  • How do I manage two iPods on one computer please?

I have an iPod (early 40G model, and it's fine). I installed iTunes, and all fine. A year goes by. Another member of the household gets an iPod (mini), and we load the software into a different subdirectory in Program Files. This erases my iTunes, but all still works fine for some reason. i.e. when I attach my iPod, it is recognised, and my iTunes music is shown on the screen. When the other iPod is attached, same thing (i.e. it is recognised and her iTunes are shown on the screen). Our different music folders are stored in different subdirectories.
This is all fine, until her iPod erases itself, and is now no longer recognised by iTunes. In the processes advised for solving this situation (restore and reset etc) we erase my iPod (but have managed to restore music to if after re-installing the original software that came with it.)
So now we are back to the stage of having her iPod not being recognised by iTunes. Please suggest solutions! Please also advise if there is a more sensible way of managing two iPods on one PC. Is it really as basic as having different playlists?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Yep. Playlists will do it.

  • How do I manage my iPod using iCloud?

I've signed up for iCloud because I want to clear out my hard drive and I want to be able to access my library on my iPhone and iPad.  BUT I still want to use my iPod Classic for when I don't have internet access (on planes, subways, etc).  Do I still have to keep all the content I want to keep on my iPod on my hard drive, or will I be able to manage my iPod playlists using the iCloud?  I obviously won't be able to connect to the iCloud when I'm using my non-connected iPod, so I want to make sure I will still be able to keep and manage my iPod playlists if I delete everything off my hard drive.  Thanks!

Do I still have to keep all the content I want to keep on my iPod on my hard drive, or will I be able to manage my iPod playlists using the iCloud?
Yes. All of the content you wish to sync to the iPod Classic, but still be stored on your local hard drive on your PC for it to continue to function properly.

  • How can I manage 2 Ipods on 1 Itunes?

I now have 3 ipods in my house. Mine is fine on my laptop but now 2 of my kids have ipods. How can I set them both up on Itunes to have seperate libraries and be able to sync them seperately with out conflicting with each other?

When the iPods belong to two users, there are a couple of recommended methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Method one is to have individual Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. Each iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists.
Method two is to set your preferences so that either one or both iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library. Have a look at this article and see what you think and go for whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Another option when using a single library is to set one or both of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod
Choosing the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" (called Sync Music - Selected playlists in iTunes 7) allows you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod ( for example, around 3700MB for a 4GB or 1800MB for a 2GB Mini or Nano). You can read more about playlists at these links:

  • How do I merge multiple ipod libraries on one laptop?

We have over 5 ipods in the family and need to sync all their content to one library on one laptop.  Every time I plug in an ipod to the laptop, it will only show that ipod's library.  I have tried to merge the libraries, but end up losing songs/apps/etc.  At present, for example, I can see many apps in the iTunes library, but they will not sync with the ipod that is plugged in.  Thanks for any help.

Only two ways currently - the latest versions of iPhoto and of Aperature (which can nopen current iPhoto libraries and can merge libraries) or the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -

  • How can I manage 2 iPods and an iPhone from one laptop?

I have replaced my laptop, upgraded my phone to an iPhone, replaced a broken iPod screen that was broken within the first month of purchase from Apple direct and Apple has not been any help in assisting me with getting all of this syncronized.  I cannot even get access to a PERSON one time to set this all up.
I have changed my passwords so many times that one of the iPods (the NEWEST VERSION) has been out of use for over 4 months!  I am so disgusted with all of this.  We are sharing music we don't even like because we cannot listen to our own music.  It was never this difficult with our old mp3 devices!
Is there anyone who can help me???
I have a mentally handicapped 20 year old grandson that loves his iPod.  It was one of his Christmas gifts last year and it was damaged when he dropped it on the school bus last winter.  I had to pay almost $100 to have the screen replaced, but could not afford to do it until this past spring. By then I had forgotten his passwords and had to set up a new email.  Then, my computer had to be replaced and we were without internet for some time.  By the time we needed the password again, I could not locate it.  Now I have to start over!  This seems to be only a problem with Apple.  He has a Kindle Fire and we do not have this problem with Amazon.
My husband is a painting contractor.  I thought I was doing him a great favor by giving him an iPod as a gift.  But that has also been a disaster.  He can't listen to his music because I cannot separate his music files from our master file. I wish I had just bought him a new mp3 player instead of an iPod.
PLEASE HELP!!!    DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO REACH A REP FROM APPLE???

  • How to use two seperate iPods with one iTunes. Different Music Preferences

My Wife and I both have 80 Gig iPods. We like different Music. How can we both use the same Windows XP computer and have different music lists?

  • How do I manage one ipod touch on two authorized machines?

Both of my machines are authorized for my ipod touch (my desktop being my "main" library, and my laptop having a few songs I purchased while on the road). I wasn't aware that upgrading to software v2.0 would restore my ipod back to it's factory settings. Once the update was complete, I began to transfer music back onto my ipod, from my pc, manually. Once I was finished transferring the music I wanted from my pc, I went to my laptop to pull the songs from there as well. My ipod was recognized by the laptop, but itunes wouldn't allow me to transfer any of the music to the ipod. Any ideas?

The walkthrough I'm going to try is:
    http://bestipodstuff.com/2007/12/28/how-to-set-up-multiple-computers-for-one-ipo d/
I was going to give this a shot when I got home. Unfortunately, it looks like I'll have to wipe my ipod yet again. The transfer issue might have something to do with automatic syncing. I thought I had auto sync disabled, but I'll give it another go.
Sandis, this might help you as well. You could try this method to get the music onto your ipod from your work pc, but then attach the ipod to your laptop and try File >> Transfer purchases from ipod.
I'm not sure how to recover lost albums though, sorry. =(
    (replies still welcome) =)

I bought my duaghter an ipod. Can I have two seperate itunes libraries on one computer? If so, how do I set this up?

I followed these instructions & have created a new library file. However, all my music now appears in the new library as well as my own. (I bought my daughter an ipod nano for christmas & want to separate itunes libraries on one computer). How can this be so difficult?

  • How to manage different iTunes Libraries from same computer

I have my own AppleID, iCloud account, iTunes Match account and my own Library.
But I have just one computer and one AppleTV.
How do I manage my granddaughters accounts, so they can listen to their own libraries on their iPod touch?
I don't want to mess up login to iTunes with another AppleID and then having to wait 60 or 90 days to log back int.

The best way is to create ther own accounts on your Mac. Method 1 in the following:

  • Can I use one apple id to manage two seperate itunes libraries on two seperate pc's?

First time forum user, bear with me. I have two seperate PCs with two seperate ITunes loaded (both completely dependant of each other). On itunes and one pc manages my ipod, i now wnat a seperate pc and itunes to manage my iphone. Can I use the same apple id for both?

    Hello Schurly
Yes you can, you can have up to 5 computers authorized for playback on purchases. If you have not purchases, then there is nothing to worry about there as well.

  • I have created an iTunes account on my current computer for my daughters ipod touch and tried connecting my ipod nano and it won't sync and says that it is associated with another iTunes library so how do I merge the two libraries?

I have created an iTunes account on my current computer for my daughters ipod touch and tried connecting my ipod nano and it won't sync and says that it is associated with another iTunes library so how do I merge the two libraries?

    You do not merge libraries.
iDevices sync to one and only one computer.
If you want a single library, you manually move the content from one library to another... all content will still be associated with the Apple ID it was acquired with.
