How do I manually manage what to sync? iOS7-iTunes 11.1.1

Hi -
I purchased an audio book using my MBPro (running 10.8.5).
Now I want to move it to my iPhone5 (iOS 7.0.2).
So I open iTunes (11.1.1), plug in my iPhone and wait for the sync interface to show so I can manually select what songs, photos, audiobooks I want to the iPhone - but that interface is not to be found!
The only place I could find the word "iPhone" any where on the iTunes skin was the eject button.
The only menu items was under  File/Devices where I got to choose "sync iPhone"  - but that's it.  No choices, no selections.
Itunes proceeded to back up the iPhone and "sync" but I had no chance to make any changes.  I really dont know how much stuff got moved around.
I do know the new audiobook did not get moved to the iPhone.
What am I missing?  Is there a new button somewhere that I didn't see?
Wnat is the proceedure for manually deciding what to sync FROM the Mac TO the iPhone??
TIA your help.

Once your iPhone starts its sync, do you see a small button showing your iPhone here?
Click that and you should see what you are looking for.

  • How do you manually manage podcasts with the new iTunes?

Like the subject line says: How do you manually manage podcasts with the new iTunes?
With the previous version of iTunes, when I plugged in my iPod, I could select the iPod, select podcasts, and manually delete episodes. With the new iTunes, I can't select individual episodes when looking at my iPod through iTunes. Is my only option to Sync? If so, why is that my only option?
This question probably has a simple answer, and I'm just not seeing it.

    Rock,
I think I figured out a way to do what you want to do - which is the same way that I use Itunes with my Ipod. (My Itunes libary was destroyed last year so I can no longer auto synch my Ipod as I would lose thousands of songs).
Funnily enough, I discovered this new way of manually moving podcasts while trying to figure out what cpragman was trying to say (I never could - he must be smarter than me, as I couldn't get his method to work).
    1. Open up your Itunes in your regular Library view. Choose Pocasts from the left hand side (either in the sidebar if you have that enabled, or from the little "radio" icon if you don't.)
    2. Mouse to the podcast you want to place on your Ipod.
    3. Right-click it.  A long menu will pop up.
    4. Move to the "Add to Playlist" option.  As you hover, all your playlists will be visible. But at the very top will be the name of your Ipod itself (whatever you named it originally).  Choose THAT name, and voila! That podcast will now copy to your Ipod and be easily available when you disconnect.
A nice feature of this method is that you can shift-click several podcasts at once and do the same thing, and all your selected podcasts will copy over (if you're like me and update your Ipod only every few weeks).
Hope this helps - let me know if it works for you!

  • How can I easily manage what songs go to Itunes Match

I have about 50k songs in my music library and not unlike other people I only ever listen to about 10% of it. So I want to be able to easily manage what is in Itunes Match and What is not. Besides clicking each individual track is there a way to Manage by genre or artist ?

iTunes Match is all-or-nothing. If it is in the iTunes library it will be included in the initial scan, match and upload. However, with your library you will not be allowed to even activate the service. You will need to remove over half of the tracks from the iTunes library for it to be eligible for iTunes Match.

  • I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone?

I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone? (the check marks are not bolded, does this mean they are not in my library but only on my phone?)

You uncheck the music in your iTunes library on your computer and along with sync only checked songs and videos selected under the Summary selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, only checked songs in your iTunes library will be transferred to your iPhone or remain on your iPhone and the unchecked songs in your iTunes library that are currently on your iPhone will be removed when syncing.
Or make use of iTunes playlists and choose selected playlists, albums, artists under the Music selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select the playlists below that you want transferred to your iPhone.

How do I manually transfer music with the new itunes update for Windows?  I don't want to sync my library and lose all of my music for what I have in my current library.

The same way it was done in every previous version.
Connect the device to the computer.
Right click on the device in iTunes and select Transfer Purchases.
Why would you lose any content by syncing with iTunes?
Is this not the computer that the device is normally synced with?

how to get back music lost while syncing to itunes?

If the music you lost during the sync process is no longer on the iPod, in your iTunes library, or in a backup elsewhere, I'm afraid you are out of luck.
You may be able to redownload any lost purchases via iCloud (pending you live in a country where iCloud has gone live).

  • Manually manage music and syncing at the same time.

As my music is growing larger, but my iPhone's memory isn't. I change to manually manage musics on the phone. When I change details of the song e.g. adding album artist or lyrics. iTunes doesn't sync it for me. Do I have to manually do this by myself like adding and deleting the old ones every time I make a change.
Another question is that, when I make a change to my playlist or making a new playlist on my laptop, there's nothing happening on my iPhone. Is there a way to make it automatically does that on my phone as well? Or do I have only one choice which is to go back to sync the library?

Just make the changes then add the song to the iPhone.
You don't need to first delete it from the iPhone.
    FYI: You can autosync.
Create a playlist then sync only that playlist.
Add/delete from that playlist to change what is on the iPhone.
Any changes will get sync'd automatically.

  • HT1386 How do I manually manage playlists on my iPod Nano? My iPod Classic get's a tab called 'On This iPod' in which I can manually manage playlists, my iPod Nano does not.

That is the option I get with my iPod Classic, from there I can manually edit my playlists as I chose.
However when I plug in my iPod Nano, I do not get that highlighted option. So how on earth do I manually delete or reorder songs on a nano playlist
(I manually manage the music on my nano, not auto sync)

You could just go to the top of the page and click the word ipod:

Then clcik the ipod nano forum
    Very simple

  • How do i manually manage my new iphone without erasing everything?

OK, so i got a new iphone 5 for christmas. i already have an ipod touch so through icloud i restored everything to my new phone. then i went on to my computer to add my cds since you cant do that through icloud, and when i tried i couldnt. then when i tried to set it to manual manage it said you can only sync to one computer at a time, and gave me two options: erase and sync or cancel. i understand this happening if it was a new computer and i previously synced my phone  to another computer, but for me thats not the case, this is the first computer ive used with my new phone. if syncing were to erase only my pictures, songs and videos i wouldnt mind just deleting everything but it will delete all my apps and app info, and there are things i need. is there anyway i can manually manage my new phone without erasing everything????

You don't manually manage with iCloud, you manually manage with iTunes on your computer. So, if you want to manually manage, get all of the content in your iTunes library on your computer first.
You can re-download iTunes purchased content:

  • Cannot Select Both "Manually manage music" and "Sync ringtones" for iTunes

iTunes won't let me sync when both "manually manage music and videos" and "sync ringtones" is checked. If I choose "manage music and videos" first, add my music, then check "sync ringtones" all my music that I sync'd is deleted. The only way it worked for me was to sync the ringtones first without any music in the iPhone then checking "manually manage music and videos" afterwards but the problem is that once the "manual manage music and videos" is checked the "sync ringtones" isn't checked anymore so if I decide to add a ringtone later on I have to check "sync ringtone" causing my music to be deleted from the iPhone. This is a bad glitch Apple please fix it!

If you manually manage music, to get ringtones on your phone, you have to drag them to the "actual iphone icon" in the device pane window, on the left side in itunes.
    FYI:
Since the iphone DOES NOT support disk mode(like some ipods), there is no advantage to manually managing music, IMO.

  • How do I manually manage music for my iPhone 4?

    Hi,
I have an iPhone 4, and I am trying to manaually manage my music. I have searched all day for an answer, and frankly, I am just getting more questions than answers. I may have something simple wrong, but I am unable to manage my music manually. I know you are suppose to plug in the device and go to the summary page, but it does not give me a "manually manage" box to check at all. Also, there is no "Add to" button under the "On This iPhone" tab, nor can I just drag the music over to the device in the sidebar. What is going on? I cannot add or remove music from my device. Any advice? I would greatly appreciate it!

Ok... nevermind... I have no idea what I did, but I now have all the needed buttons. Thanks anyways!

  • How do I manually manage videos on my iPod Touch?

    Hi Everyone,
I'm pretty new to this forum. I've google searched some issues I've had with my iPod and gotten answers here as a guest. This is my first post. I've already tried searching for similar posts using the search bar. So I apologize if this is a repost.
I have a 32GB iPod Touch. I have quite a few movies on it and it is getting quite full. I would like to remove these movies from the iPod without removing them from my iTunes library. When I click 'Manually Manage Music and Videos' in the Summary page for my iPod in iTunes, it doesn't do anything. I go to the movie summary and the only option is whether or not I want to sync my movies.
    Any thoughts? Thanks.
    Charles

Swipe your finger over the movie on your touch. It should then prompt you to delete the movie.

  • How do I manual add music to Ipad with Itunes 12

I can't figure out how to add music manually when synced to my itunes 12. I could just drag the song to the ipad icon in previous versions to add, but it doesn't appear to work the same way with this latest version.
    What am I missing?

I don't have the latest version of iTunes, but on a hunch, do you have iTunes configured to Manually Manage Music and Videos in the settings?
