How do I manually modify a font of text with photo in text?

You're trying to do something like this?
Make your image into a layer (double click it in the Layers panel).
Use the T (Text) tool to enter text in a layer above your image, size and place it as you wish.
Use the Magic Wand tool and click in the area outside the text. You will then have a "negative" selection of the text.
Choose Layer - Layer Mask - Hide Selection.
Delete the text layer.
I'm sure there are better and more direct ways, but this gets the job done.

Very frustraiting as I cannot currently put songs onto my iPod/iPhone after regrettably downloading the most recent iTunes, and my friends are having the same problem. I have an apple mac and it is clearly a fault of the new iTunes as it used to work before the new iTunes.

How can I manually add music to my iDevice with iCloud (especially Ineligible)?

Greetings!
Is there a way to manually manage my playlists on my iPhone now that I've signed up for iCloud? I've got some tracks that are ineligible (due to being 4 hours long, so conversion is not an option), and I'd like to get them moved over. But they're ineligible.
I would really like some way to manually manage my playlists anyway - it's goofy that I have to wait for music to upload to the cloud then have to re-download it before I can listen to it on my iPhone. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the input. I suppose I could segment the file, that would be OK. It would be nicer if I could simply get the song onto the iDevice w/o doing anything special. Is there a way to *not* use iTunes Match for files like this? Since switching to iTunes in the Cloud / iTunes Match, I can no longer manually select playlists to synch from within iTunes. Is there something I'm missing? What do you mean by "the option on the iDevice to download all associated Song files"?

How many pixels to use for scanning newspaper article with photos

I recently purchased an EPSON Perfection V600 Photo scanner to make CDs of family stories, newspaper articles, pictures, film, and slides. It comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements 9. I was hoping to restore old photos. I have several old newspaper articles that were written by an aunt who was a freelance writer for various publications. The articles also had photos. They have aged and have a yellow tint.
I have tried to scan them, but the photos look grainy and the background is still yellow. My Brother printer does better than this. I am trying to put together a booklet with the history of our family so future generations will be able to read and see their heritage. This is a very important project to me, but I think I am not capable of doing this.
My question today is how many pixels and dpi do I select? Or is that what is causing the distortion? It looks kind of like the glass windows in your car look like with polarized glasses.

I don't think the issue is so much pixel size and dpi, but more the scanner settings. I downloaded the user manual for your scanner. There is a Descreen setting which most scanner have. The manual says about Descreen: "Removes the rippled pattern that can appear in subtly-shaded image areas, such as in skin tones. Also improves results when scanning magazine or newspaper images which include screening in their original print processes. This setting is available only when the Image Type is set to Color or Grayscale. The results of descreening do not appear in the preview, only in your scanned image."
The manual also mentions a Newspaper setting: "when you select Newspaper as the Document Type setting, the Image Type is set to Black&White". However, if the yellow is converted to gray there are ways in PSE to remove the gray. Even if you scan the newspaper in color, there are ways in PSE to remove the yellow.
If you try the above and are not happy with the results, you might post an example of the scanned picture and reader of the forum can offer suggestions to improve it.

How to get Network logins shown as a list with photos!

A long time ago, some one posted a tip here on how to set this up for Panther Server (that is to be able to view the list of network login accounts as a scrolling list with different pictures [photos] for each user).
I myself was able to follow the instructions and get it working in Panther.
Later someone else said it no longer worked using Tiger Server.
A while I go I did set this up (again) using Tiger Server and therefore I can confirm it does still work. (Although I am only now getting round to letting anyone else know.)
If anyone is interested I can help you through the process.
In theory the same pictures can be used in other places as well, for example in Apple AddressBook (works for me as well). Its a shame Apple broke MailPictures in Tiger though. See http://www.nikwest.de/Software/
Despite what the above website implies, it DOES NOT work properly in Mail in Tiger (although the Panther version does work in Panther Client).
PS. I did get an equivalent to work in Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5 in Tiger.

Unfortunately it doesn't work. @List requires members names so I can't provide a member set as an argument :(^^^Are you sure? Take a look at the below example from the Tech Ref. That sure looks like @LANCESTORS and @LIST is accepting more than just member names.

How do I create a new library in LR5 with photos from LR3 and older computer?

I want to take photos I originally imported with LR3 on an older computer and creat a new library in LR5 on my new computer. I want to throw out all old metadata, folder names and keywords and start from scratch. How would I go about this. My photo library is on an external drive. Thanks.

I guess I hadn't thought about the fact I'd lose my edits. I have just a little experience with LR. I've realized that I did not organize and cateorize my photos in a useful way when I first created the library and want to start over. Perhaps I should just plug my photo drive into my new computer and go through photo by photo resorting them and reentering keywords and folder names. If you have any suggestions on how to best to this, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I just trying to run a java program in Mandrake Linux 8.2. Everythings work well except the fonts. I did read this page

Because I don't know how to modify the fonts.properties file. Java seem not support a world language version in Linux. (Although it support in Windows.)
Then I tired to use the windows file, fonts.properties.xh_TW, to replace the fonts.properties in j2sdk in Linux. But it doesn't work.
Please help me by either show me how to modify the fonts.properties file or direct me where to download a Big5 fonts in Linux version. Thanks a lot!!!

Sorry I have been out of for a long time.
If you already follow all the step of Locale help online,
may be your font.dir in your /usr/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType/fonts.dir is not as
the alias it was expected.
take a look of that file.
In xtt for chinese, there may be short cut like vl=y as such, because java
render the font directly getting info from the fonts.dir so if the font filename
is not as expected, you will not able to load the fonts. What you need to do is
ln -s realfont vl=y:realfont
to link the font to the make java think the name of the font is actually vl=y:realfont.

I have tried to paste it in the two following ways:
1) to create a text box and paste the text. The result is that some of the characters are not showed correctly.
2) Paste it directly without any preparation. This result into a single "image" or group of images. I can cancel modify each character one at a time, or I can dissolve the group, but the result is the same.

How do I manually enter code into an iweb page??

iweb blogging is not bad; but there are times when I want to enter html code by hand; maybe a form script or CSS code.
I tried inputting the code into the blog.html page, but it will vanish every time I update iweb.
So; how can I manually add code to an iweb page? Surely this is possible?

Of course it's possible. Lots of us do that on our pages already. Two things to keep in mind...1. No way to do this via iWeb directly, so it involves editing the published html files, and 2. Because iWeb republishes the html files whenever you update the your webpage, you will lose your changes and have to redo them to add your HTML back.
The general directions are as follows (using banner code as an example)...
1. Decide where you want your banner and know exactly what dimensions you need.
2. Insert a text box onto your page and adjust its size to exactly your dimensions.
3. Type in some uniquely identifiable text like, "BANNERCODEHERE" without changing the font or anything else...just type it in.
4. Publish your page with iWeb.
5. Find the html file associated with your published page (either on your iDisk or in a folder depending on how you published) and open it in any text editor (like Microsoft Word, or Textedit, or anything).
6. Scroll through the html file and locate your placeholder text, e.g. "BANNERCODEHERE".
7. Replace the placeholder text with your html code and publish your page.
That's it. You should see your html coded element show up where you placed the text box.

You may have to install the font of your choice on the linux machine. Once it is installed, you can specify the font for a control, indicator, etc. by using the 'text settings' option in the tool bar.
Using VI Server, you might be able to do a mass change of the fonts for labels and captions. The following webpage contains an example that changes the value of controls -- you could modify this example to modify the fonts:
