How do I mark an email as junk in mavericks.

There's a big "thumbs down" icon that should be in your toolbar, so long as you have junk mail enabled in Mail's preferences.

how do I block unwanted emails     Better yet!!!!  how can I mark unwanted emails as spam?

    Who is the email carrier?
Gmail app has an option to mark each email as Spam.
In the desktop Yahoo, AOL, etc, there are Spam controls you can use, and emails go to the Spam folder on the phone.
If the mail app you are using doesn't have an option to mark as Spam, then go to your computer and see if you can set up Spam controls for the email there.  When the app syncs it should filter the spam according to the rules you've set up on your computer.

  • How do I mark things as not junk that end up in my junk folder

Sometimes I get an option right on the email to click "not junk."  However, these items don't seem to have this option.  I don't know how certain emails are pre-determined to go into my junk folder.  However if they some how got in there, it seems there should be a way I can mark them "not junk" for future emails from the same person or from the same group of persons.  Anyone know how to change the setting some how?   Thanks in advance!

I don't know what CurlyMolly's problem is. But I have a problem with an email that keeps ending up in my Junk folder...
"Mail maintains an internal database of information that helps it detect junk mail. When you mark messages as junk or not junk, Mail updates the junk mail database accordingly and your junk mail filter improves over time. If you change your mind about what is junk mail (for example, you want to receive someone’s messages that you previously specified as junk mail), you need to mark them as not junk."
That last part which states to "Mark them as not junk." Well, where is that? Because what is in the top part of my Mail app when I have that message selected while in the Junk folder is "Mark this as Junk". Fact is, I have a rule set up for messages from the senders email address to be moved to a specific folder. I actually have dozens of rules with emails being moved/copied here and there. This one email is my only problem child.

  • How do you mark mail as "not junk'?

The "not junk mail" icon is not working---I highlight the mis-identified message, and the icon should change to a "thumbs-up" so I can say "not junk mail" but it doesn't change.  I have not been able to figure out how to mark things as "not junk."  Any ideas?

Which email? Yahoo, AOL, Exchange, etc.? I find that I have to do this on a webmail interface, personally.

  • How can I mark an email as SPAM without "opening" it?

When I go to "the cloud" to read my email, I might see spam there.
But when I click on the email message to mark it as spam or even
delete it, I've "opened" the email.  I don't want to do that, right!!!
So how can I mark it as spam *or* delete it without "opening" the
    email in question.
    Thanks!
[and oh, by the way, since moving to the cloud, I've gotten lots of
spam -- something I almost never got with me.com.  just fyi...]

You need to have the account set up as IMAP or Exchange (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc. automatically do this if you choose that option when you create the account). POP3 accounts do not supporting synchronizing between clients and the server.

  • How do I mark outgoing emails as urgent or important with iPhone 5C?

Hi all, I'd like to know how to mark outgoing emails as urgent or important using the iPhone 5C.  I currently have iOS 7.1.1.  The only thread I saw on this was from 2012  (saying that the feature doesn't exist) so I'm hoping the status has changed.
    Thank you!

Thank you, good to know it isn't possible. The usefulness is more in terms of the interface with other email software (like Outlook), which can sort and send reminders about messages based on importance. Android phones support this so let's hope Apple can keep up!

  • ICloud says I've marked some emails as junk, but I didn't do it.  Why is this happening?

I mainly use icloud.com on Chrome to access my iCloud emails.  Up until recently, I haven't experienced any problems with the junk mail filter . I will see maybe 1 or 2 emails in a week marked as junk.  50% of the time it is junk, but 50% it's not.  I don't see the marked emails on the main list.  It only shows up when I click on the Junk folder.
About a week ago, something changed and now I get 6-8 emails that shows up in my mailbox that's automatically marked as "junk", but it shows up on the main list of emails.  iCloud says "You marked this message as junk", but clearly I haven't done that.  It's not being marked based on email addresses because I get multiple messages from certain addresses and only some are being marked as junk.  I'm definitely seeing more number of emails marked as junk than before.
So has something on iCloud's end that has changed, or is something actually marking those messages as junk (but without my intervention or knowledge)?

Have exactly the same problem/question -- a sudden and unexplained increase in number of false-positive junk mail in iCloud. None of it's related to any rules I've set up. Any help would be appreciated!

  • How stop iCloud from marking craigslist emails as junk?

Craigslist has instituted a new email replay system to help avoid spam. Now all of replies to my ads are only found in iCloud junk. Is there a way to turn this off but leave other junk filtering place? How long do they stay there if I don't look at them right away?

Not sure if it will work or not, but you could try setting up an email rule that moves them to your inbox (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm6b1a3f8a).  I believe junk mail remains until you delete it (unlike your trash folder, which is automatically deleted after 30 days).

  • Mail app marked an email as junk, missed job opportunity. How can I fix this?

I pipe my school email to my gmail account, which I use the mail app to view. It usually works nicely, but I was going through my junk folder and noticed I missed a job opportunity because mail app sent it to junk. This has never happened before. I am so frustrated now, and I just want to fix it, or if its a bug, blame it on somebody lol. But seriously, this is unacceptable. I'm out of a much needed job now. Please help before I lose another one!

Maybe you just need to go to Mail > Preferences > Junk and do some more serious configuring, perhaps using the Advanced options, or at minimum, leaving Junk in your Inbox. Anyway, without seeing the email, it's hard to know why it may have been sent to Junk in the first place--too many links, maybe. (Sorry this happened to you though!)

  • How To Earmark Non-English email as Junk?

For some reason, for a long time I have been getting many spams every day that are in Portugese. I would like to create a rule in Mail to automatically move all email that is in Portugese (or in any language other than English) into my Junk folder. Is there a way to do this? Thanks very much in advance.

Strictly speaking, and to my knowledge, no.
I don't think it is possible to create a rule in Mail based on language. It seems to me that you can go along two different paths. First, consider a rule not based on language, but on criteria available in Mail. Eg, move message to junk if sender is not in your address book.
Alternatively, you can create a complex rule or set of rules to approximate what you want, by checking the message contents. For instance, you can combine a rule which checks if the message contains the character Ô (o-tilde), which is encountered in Portuguese and a couple of other languages, with one which checks if it doesn't contain the character W, which in Portuguese appears only in foreign words, but is fairly common in English. However, at best, this will be a very much hit-and-miss affair. You can also add rules which check for the content of the Accept-Language and Content-Language fields, or for charset, but none of these will work very well, because, for instance, utf8 can be used for many different languages.
Maybe you should just start by examining the offending messages using View > Message > Raw Source. Perhaps you'll find a much simpler way to filter them out -- eg, perhaps they all come from the .br TLD.

I cannot find in preferences or contacts or menu of email bar...

Find the sender in one of your emails and hover over the name. A star will appear next to the name. A hollow star is not a VIP and a filled star is a VIP.

  • How to not mark an email as read when it is selected in the inbox?

    Hi,
It makes me a bit crazy that every time an email is selected in the list of emails it is automatically marked as read. Especially if I delete one email, the next one is automatically selected and marked read. If at that point I do not yet want to deal with that next email I always have to mark it unread again?
Is there any way to change this? A solution for me would be to only mark them read if I click the inbox away by clicking on the mail body.
    Cheers, Robert
