How do I mark read emails as unread?

I have an iPad 2 and it when it updated the new IOS, I no longer had the "Mark" button in my email.  I want to use the Mark button to make emails "Unread" again.

That feature is now accessed by tapping the Flag icon.

    Hello,
I used to have mail set up not to mark emails I've read when I opened them. But that option is gone in mail at mountain lion. Or am I just unable to find it.

Aside from opening them one at a time, how can I mark prior emails as "read" in one or two steps?
    Thanks!

Select all (command A) in the mailbox.

  • How to fix your iphone constantly switching read emails to unread, how to fix your iphone constantly switching read emails to unread

So scrolling through other forums this issue was posed in september, and apple was apparently fixing it. I haven't had a problem with my email switching read emails to unread and sending 1600 "unread" messages to my phone until today. I updated to IOS7 when it came out which was weeks ago, and haven't had an available update. I have tried all posted "solutions" and nothing works. Any other suggestions? or time when this bug will be fixed?

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

  • How do I mark unwanted emails as spam

how do I block unwanted emails     Better yet!!!!  how can I mark unwanted emails as spam?
    Kathleen

    Who is the email carrier?
Gmail app has an option to mark each email as Spam.
In the desktop Yahoo, AOL, etc, there are Spam controls you can use, and emails go to the Spam folder on the phone.
If the mail app you are using doesn't have an option to mark as Spam, then go to your computer and see if you can set up Spam controls for the email there.  When the app syncs it should filter the spam according to the rules you've set up on your computer.

There's a big "thumbs down" icon that should be in your toolbar, so long as you have junk mail enabled in Mail's preferences.

  • How to not mark an email as read when it is selected in the inbox?

    Hi,
It makes me a bit crazy that every time an email is selected in the list of emails it is automatically marked as read. Especially if I delete one email, the next one is automatically selected and marked read. If at that point I do not yet want to deal with that next email I always have to mark it unread again?
Is there any way to change this? A solution for me would be to only mark them read if I click the inbox away by clicking on the mail body.
    Cheers, Robert

You need to have the account set up as IMAP or Exchange (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc. automatically do this if you choose that option when you create the account). POP3 accounts do not supporting synchronizing between clients and the server.

  • How can I mark an email as SPAM without "opening" it?

When I go to "the cloud" to read my email, I might see spam there.
But when I click on the email message to mark it as spam or even
delete it, I've "opened" the email.  I don't want to do that, right!!!
So how can I mark it as spam *or* delete it without "opening" the
    email in question.
    Thanks!
[and oh, by the way, since moving to the cloud, I've gotten lots of
spam -- something I almost never got with me.com.  just fyi...]

  • How do I mark outgoing emails as urgent or important with iPhone 5C?

Hi all, I'd like to know how to mark outgoing emails as urgent or important using the iPhone 5C.  I currently have iOS 7.1.1.  The only thread I saw on this was from 2012  (saying that the feature doesn't exist) so I'm hoping the status has changed.
    Thank you!

Thank you, good to know it isn't possible. The usefulness is more in terms of the interface with other email software (like Outlook), which can sort and send reminders about messages based on importance. Android phones support this so let's hope Apple can keep up!

  • Messages not marked read if last unread message

I sort incoming mail into various folders
I use the "Move to next unread" button to go through messages
I configured mail to be marked read immediately upon display
This works perfectly till I reach the last unread message in any folder - clicking the "move to next unread" button will move me to the next folder with an unread message, BUT, the last unread message in the just exited folder is left marked unread
I've tried compacting my folders, deleting my .msf files, and, the 'repair folder' option in the properties pages of the folders, but nothing has worked
Can any one suggest something else to try?

re: Does it do this if you use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move to next in the list; the last one?
''The down arrow key only moves the focus to the following folder, and does not land on or display a message in that folder ''
If the focus is on the Folder in the Folder Pane , then the arrows will move up and down the Folder Pane list.
If the focus in on a selected email in the list of emails you can use the up and down arrows to move up and down the list. As you select an email, it is displayed in the Message Pane below and marked as read. I use this method alot as it is quicker than moving the mouse over any buttons.
I'm trying to work out if this is something related only to the 'Next unread button' or whether something else is conflicting. I presume if you click on the email it is marked as read..
So please tell me if the use of arrows to select emails, still causes the issue.
Test if the Sort Order effects the marking of the last unread email.
Please select the following Sort Order and tell me if the 'Next unread' button works with a different Sort by order.
View > Sort by > Date - Descending - unthreaded
Do you use the 'Quick Filter Bar' to 'Show only unread messages' - icon looks likea pair of sunglasses?
If no. could you please test.
Select the 'Show only unread messages' - then use the 'Move to the Next unread mesage' button.
Does it still fail to mark the last email as read?
What version of Thunderbird are you using?
    What OS ?
Confirm Pop or imap mail account?
Please test whether their are any addons causing a conflict:
    In Thunderbird
'Help > 'REstart with Addons disabled'
then use the Next unread button method to see if it works ok.
If it works ok then an addon is causing an issue.

  • Read email turns unread again

I am experiencing strange behavior while reading email: a read email after being moved to an email folder turns unread again after a while. It happens equally on my business IMAP and .Mac server.
Does anybody else observe the same? I guess it started with the 10.4.5 update but I am not sure.
    cheers,

PowerMac G4 Gigabit Ethernet   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I had the same issue, called Apple Care and a nice rep helped me fix the problem. My issue was not with the .mac account but rather with an IMAP account. Out of the blue one day, the read emails started to come back as unread, but not the entire list, just the top 10 or 15 of them.
    So, the fix..
Go into your home directory --> Library and move the Preferences folder to your Desktop. Yes I know this will nuke every setting that you had saved for other apps, etc. Log out of your system, log back in and you will see a a brand new Desktop look and feel. Now copy things back from the original Preferences into the newly created Preferences folder, but DON'T copy anything related to mail, once you see the list you will figure out what is Mail related and what is not.
Launch Mac OS X Mail and configure your account from scratch, let it sync and it should solve the issue, well at least for me it did.
    Good Luck!

  • E75 Marking Old Emails as Unread

For some reason my E75 (running the latest update) decided today that approx 75 messages in each of my two mail accounts are suddenly unread and it's no longer syncing. It did this once before and a factory reset fixed it, but doing that every month or so is not a fix.
This phone has been great in some respects and shocking in others: I've had plenty of issues with the email setup (not being able to specify details manually?! Had to use the web interface), I've only managed to get the GPS to find some satellites once and the volume buttons don't work except in a call.
    Any ideas folks?

I am having a very similar problem on my E71 on v400 firmware.
Sycing still works but since yesterday lots of old emails from various dates in various folders have become showing as unread. Giving me a notification on every sync for about an hour as more and more mails were marked as unread.
I'm currently going through the mails and marking them as read and hoping this doesn't happen again.

I cannot find in preferences or contacts or menu of email bar...

  • Read email appears unread on iPhone

I can understand if I'm away from my computer, but shouldn't syncing include what emails have / haven't been read? I mean, it's kind of annoying to be at my computer, having read all my email, and then leave the house and see the icon that i have 108 new email messages.... of which I've read or deleted all of them.
What do I need to do to setup my phone to only get new emails not read from the computer and/or to sync my email to reflect what's really going on?

If the account is a POP account, syncing isn't possible since a POP account's Inbox mailbox is not kept synchronized with the server.
With an IMAP account, all server stored mailboxes are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account.
If you have an IMAP account and have read 108 new messages received with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account, the account's Inbox mailbox with the iPhone's Mail client will not be updated and synchronized with the server until you access the account's Inbox mailbox when it will be synchronized with the server, or the account's Inbox mailbox should be updated with the server when the account is checked for new messages automatically if you have fetch set to automatically check for new messages at a designated interval.
The option for syncing email accounts under the Info tab for your iPhone's sync preferences with iTunes is for transferring email account settings from your computer to your iPhone only - which is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to your iPhone. This does not include syncing email account mailboxes and messages.
The iPhone's Mail client is not much different from the email client used on your computer for accessing an account, and the same when accessing an email account with an email client on more than one computer.
