How do I mark songs as "Explicit"?

I get some of my songs from CDs so they are not marked as Explicit and I have a little brother who I don't want to listen to those types of songs. How do I mark them as "Explicit"?

Katrina understood the question.
I as well would like to know how to mark my songs as "explicit" in iTunes. I recently purchased such an album and each song title has a red-boxed "explicit" mark/icon next to it. Does anybody know how to add this?
The Explicit marking (in the red box) is put there by the iTunes Store, and only appears on items that are purchased there. It cannot be added by a user. Therefore, to keep Explicit songs separate, a separate user account or other means will be needed,as the previous poster recommended.

  • Some songs on iTunes have swears in them but are not marked with an "EXPLICIT" sign. Is there a possible way for you to fix this? And is there some way for me to send a list of songs that I have come across so that customers know what they're buying?

Here is a list of songs on iTunes that I have bought that need to be marked with an explicit sign:
    Maroon 5:
    "Harder to Breathe"-Songs About Jane
    Goo Goo Dolls:
"Don't Beat My *** (With a Baseball Bat)"-Goo Goo Dolls
    "Up Yours"-Jed
    "James Dean"-Jed
    "There You Are"-Hold Me Up
"Out of the Red"-Hold Me Up
    "Lucky Star"-Superstar Car Wash
    "Close Your Eyes"-Superstar Car Wash
    "Only One"-A Boy Named Goo
    "Cuz You're Gone/1000 Words"-Live in Buffalo, July 4th
    "Slide"-Live in Buffalo, July 4th
    Avril Lavigne:
    "Push"-Goodbye Lullaby
    "Wish You Were Here"-Goodbye Lullaby
    "Smile"-Goodbye Lullaby
    "My Happy Ending"-Under My Skin
    Aerosmith:
    "Mama Kin"-Aerosmith
    The Cult:
    "Lucifer"-Choice of Weapon
    Green Day:
    "Burnout"-Dookie
    "Having a Blast"-Dookie
    "F.O.D."-Dookie
    "Brain Stew"-Insomniac
    "Jaded"-Insomniac
    Linkin Park:
    "Wretches & Kings"-A Thousand Suns
    P!nk:
"Can't Take Me Home"-Can't Take Me Home
Here's one song that SHOULDN'T have a sign on it:
    "Before the Lobotomy"-Green Day

This can be done easily with ethernet.
    Please follow the instructions strictly.
To make it easier I want you to do this overnight so you can turn off all your current connection to the internet.
Just go to the airport fan in to the top right and turn airport off.
Get ethernet cable and connect the laptop to the TC lan port.. ie <-> ones.
Press and hold the reset on the TC for about 10sec. until the front led flashes rapidly.
Open the airport utility.. go to manual setup and change the wireless to off. (so other people around you cannot join your network of one).
Ignore all the errors.. they won't stop the backup working.
Go to the TM and reselect the backup target disk as the TC.
It should start after 2min and run through to completion.
That is it.. for a backup of many GB it might take a few hours.. so make sure the laptop has power plugged in and the sleep is off.. (on early ones I think this is needed but I am a late arrival to the scene).. sleep doesn't affect later OS.

  • How do I transfer songs from my iPod to iTunes?

Okay. At this point I am SO frustrated with Apple. I just hate the company so much right now. Such a simple simple question. How do I transfer songs from my iPod Nano (1st Gen) to iTunes. There is nothing about it in any manual. Apple has no way for you to contact them via email. And it appears the only way to get any answers is to sign up for this ridulous apple account and then sign up again for a posting id or whatever. Anyways. I would simply like to know, how do I transfer the songs from my iPod to my iTunes. Thank you.

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.

  • Mark songs in iPod/iPhone for recognition in iTunes

    Hi,
over the years I accumulated a lot of music. Now I want to use my iPod function on my iPhone to mark specific songs so I can change some metadata within iTunes later on.
I tried to make a smart playlist in iTunes which shows me all tracks that have been modified in the last week and a rating of no stars, so I could change the rating on my iPod application to zero stars. But it seems as if changes to the rating on the iPod are not registered as "modification". Therefore this solution wont work to identify these songs.
I don't want to use the on-the-go playlist for this, neither do I want to give all songs a star rating.
Any ideas how I can mark specific songs on the iPod so I can recognize them in iTunes later on?
    Help is very appreciated.
    Pep

The easiest way to compare the songs in itunes to the song on your ipod is to select the first song in your itunes list, scroll down hold shift and select the last song in your itunes list. This will select all of the rows and columns, then hit ctrl C to copy open excel and do a ctrl V to past this in a spreadsheet. From here you can delete the unwanted columns, such as artist, song length, etc. Next, in itunes double click the ipod icon in the right column of the screen, this will open a window with the contents of your ipod, then do the same operation here, select all, copy and past to excel, delete unwanted columns, now you can order these from a-z and easily compare the contents of itunes vs your ipod.
As for your other issue, the only think i can think of is that maybe some of the songs after the upgrade are in a different format that your ipod does not accept. This may be a place to start after you find which files are in itunes that are not in the ipod.

  • Erasing duplicates and (!) marked songs from library???

My hard drive location changed from G: to H: and now all my music has a ! in front of it (on the left column).
I have imported most of my folders again to itunes, however I have been manually erasing all of the ! marked songs.
Is there a way I can search or find all of the ! marked songs to erase at one time?
Also, any suggestions on how to prevent this happening again?
    Thanks a ton!
    Seattle Matt

Windows normally handles assigning drive letters automatically. Did you add a new drive? Or perhaps connect a different external USB device?
In any case, it's too late now, but you could have manually told Windows what drive letter to use for which devices.

  • How can i delete songs from my mac?

So,i deleted a song by right clicking 'show in finder'.and i know it is completely not in my mac anymore, but its still in my itunes.and it has this exclamation mark next to it,i tried to go to edit and delete, but it wont even let me click it, i just dont know how to delete the songs from itunes.HELP?!

You can do it, but you need another library signed in to iTunes match. That second library shouldn't have any local files stored.
Delete the entry from that second library and it will ask you to confirm that you want to remove the file from the cloud. Confirm that you do.
Now, as long as you don't delete the file from your main library it will have an iCloud status of "removed" and won't be in the cloud or try add it again.
However, if you sign out of match on that computer and then sign in again it will then re-add it to the cloud, so this isn't a method to use if you tend to turn match on and off much.
I have had the Beatles Mono albums in my main library, but not in the cloud, for a while now without any problems.

  • How do I Export songs?

How do i export songs from my ipod, to itunes? Please respond
      Windows XP

    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), there's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
The above methods will depend on what version of iTunes you are running.
I can't vouch that any of them will work with iTunes version 7.

  • How do I erase songs

How do I erase songs from my ipod without erasing from my library?
My son had an ipod which was stolen recently, the problem is the library has stored all his data onto my new ipod. Obviously I dont want to erase his songs but I dont want his songs on my ipod either, so I wondered if there is a way to erase his songs from my ipod but not from the library?
    Hope this makes sense
    Thanks

There are several methods of deleting songs from the iPod and/or iTunes, and the method you choose depends on the settings you have selected for your iPod.
If you have the iPod set to automatically transfer songs, and you no longer want a copy of those songs on either the iPod or in iTunes, simply delete the songs in iTunes. Highlight the songs you no longer want then right click and select "clear", or from the edit menu select "clear". Next time you connect the iPod, the songs will be deleted from there also.
Only do this if you no longer want the songs on both the iPod and your computer.
You can also use the "only update checked songs" method in the iPod options (right click on the iPod in the source list in iTunes and select options, then select "only update checked songs"). With this preference checked, you can remove the check mark from the songs in iTunes that you no longer want on the iPod. The next time you connect the iPod, those unchecked songs will be removed from the iPod whilst still being retained in iTunes. You can check and uncheck songs as you change your mind about what songs you want to put on the iPod.
If you have the iPod set to manually manage your songs, and you want to delete the song from the iPod only, then select the iPod in the source list of iTunes. Highlight the song(s) you no longer want on the iPod, right click and select "clear", or use the edit menu as previously mentioned.
This method only deletes the songs from the iPod, so if you no longer want the song in iTunes also, you'll need to delete it from there separately using the method above.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, these settings can be found in the summary screen.
If you want to delete everything from the iPod and completely erase the hard drive and start from scratch, then you can restore the iPod to factory settings.
Only do this if you have the songs in your iTunes library, or a back up somewhere other than the iPod itself.

  • Purchased song with explicit content while thought it was a clean version

My son purchased several songs last night and is aware that he cannot purchase songs with explicit language ..... he purchased a song that did not have an "Explicit" tag on it but does contain the "F" word which he does not want to hear or do we want to have in his music collection.
Is there a way to "delete"/refund or such this type of sale from the ITune store? How can you be sure that language such as the "F" word and others don't get into the songs that are listed if they are not flagged as containing such words?
    Thanks, 4golf

    4golf,
I'd use the form at the bottom this page to bring the matter to Apple's attention.

  • How can i transfer songs from one itunes to another?

I have a new computer and want to transfer all of my songs from one computer to another.  I have home sharing turned on but can't figure out how to save the songs to the new computer.

I have home sharing turned on but can't figure out how to save the songs to the new computer.
First, make sure you've got the home share set up on both computers, as per the following document. If material on the original PC was bought from the iTunes Store, I'd use the AppleID you used for the purchases to set up the Home Share on both PCs.
iTunes: Setting up Home Sharing on your computer
Have both computers running and have iTunes open on both computers.
Now, in the iTunes on the computer you want to transfer music to, select the library that you want to transfer music from, as per the following screenshot:
Once the other library loads, go down to the bottom of the screen and in "Show:" select "Items not in my library":
If you want to import all of the songs you can now see, head up to the iTunes menu bar and go "Edit > Select all". Then head down to the bottom of the screen again and click the "Import" button in the bottom-right-hand corner.
If there's a lot of stuff in your original PC's library, the transfer may take some time.
