How do I MERGE, not overwrite my contacts?

I cleaned out all of the contacts in Outlook because there were many duplicates, but now when I sync, instead of it giving me the option to merge, it overwrites any contact in my phone with the blank address book from Outlook/iCloud. Wasn't there a "merge" option before?!

Actually, I think my exchange server was pushing all the contacts to it all along and that was causing some sort of conflict w/ itunes syncing and icloud... so I turned the contacts feature off in my exchange mail settings and it's working... I've read a bunch of people having issues with this.

Very often, I need to insert audio into a project. This means all tracks after the insert need to be pushed back along the timeline to make way for this. (As happens in PP when inserting a clip from the source monitor into the timeline.) I used to use Digigram's Xtrack, which has been able to do this since 15 years ago. The only way it seems possible in Audition is to insert silence that's exactly the same time length as the audio I want to insert, then add the audio to the space that has just been created. Fine if it's a one-off, but I need to do this regularly and it's pretty cumbersome. Any way to speed up this operation?

Yes, it is a limitation. Generally the easiest (and almost certainly the quickest) way to do this isn't to bother with inserting time - just group all the clips after the point you want to insert, drag the lot forward along the timeline, insert your new clip, then drag them back again to the end of it. No it's not perfect - but it works.

Adding notes to Mutliple Contacts in Address Book

Does anyone know how to add a note to multiple contacts in address book? For example I have a list of people I sent holiday cards to and would like to add a note "Holiday Card 2005" to each contact. I do not want to create a "Group".

There's currently no way to do this within the application, but Address Book's applescript support should make this possible. You can select a number of records, and have a script operate on the people within the selection.

How do I merge my apple ID to my iCloud account (which was not created by the email sync offer from an OS device)

I got an iphone.
I created an iTunes account.
When iCloud was release, I went to icloud.com and created myself an account.
When I linked that account to my phone and wanted to sync the email, it ask me to choose an icloud ID.
Obviously, I want to use the account I created, but it wont let me use my username cause it was already taken...

You would have to delete your account from your device first, then change your Apple ID at http://appleid.apple.com (if not already happened) and then add your account again using your new email address.

Thank you for your suggestion. I backup on itunes. I went to itunes, deleted syncing my contacts, then re-synced them. But the Facetime capability option continues to be there on most (not all, for some curious reason) of my contacts. I am not sure I posed my question correctly. I want to be able to FT with my family, so don't want to delete the FT capability totally from my iphone and ipad. But I don't want all these other iphone calls from various contacts to ring on my ipad as FT calls. I want a way to select with whom I have FT capabilities. Any further suggestions? Multiple contact lists: how do I merge them into one main list?

PLEASE HELP! I travel between two African countries regurlarly, and every time I do, I have to swap simcards (I do not roam). But, everytime I do, I find a new contact list has been created somehow in my Contacts.
I have about 7 entries now per contact as a result of this, and I'm desperate to merge them all into one main list. I'm also updating contact details, but have trouble saving them as my phone does not allow "duplicate names" (an option I selected), thus I have to delete all the other silly copies before I can change/update a contact. I did this because otherwise I don't know which contact (of the seven) has the updated info, forcing me to delete the others so I can keep track!
Please help!

You can connect to the BlackBerry Desktop Software on your PC and go to Device > Delete > Select Data > and specifically select which Address Book databases you want to delete.
I would recommend that your FIRST do a complete backup of your BlackBerry while in the Desktop Software.

How can I get iCloud to quit overwriting my contacts?

Hi all, I had a problem with iCloud and my contacts. Luckily I made an archive of my contacts. I ended up deleting all of my contacts in icloud as a mehod of clearing the slate. I am turning off iCloud synching, importing the address book backup to my local address book, then turning on iCloud synching.
The result is that I lose all of my contacts on my local machine.
How can I get my local machine to simply push the contact info to iCloud (rather than have iCloud overwrite my contacts on my local machine)?

iCloud will not back up your computer. Only documents you can save in iCloud is photostream photos and documents created with Apple Applications within iCloud itself (pages, numbers, keynote), your Address Book contacts and Calendars. You can also back up iPhone & iPad settings.
iDisk was part of MMe and is going away or has gone away. I'm not sure of the exact date, but the deadline may have expired. If you have documents in iDisk and you did not save them to another location, they may be lost.

I hope that you aren't complaining about dropped calls INSIDE your condo because no amount of switching or upgrading devices will solve that.
VZW will not guarantee service inside of any structure. There are just too many factors. If the problem is inside then you might want to look at one of the following:
1.) Network Extender (may cause issues for others in a condo or apartment style setting)
2.) A Google Voice Number (Free with a Gmail email address), downloading Google Hangouts Dialer and forwarding your calls to the GVN so that you can make and receive calls over Wi-Fi.

They need to be registered under different Apple ID's. The initial Apple ID is set when you first start the phone up. If you've already registered the phone to the iTunes account, back it up to your computer, and then have iTunes do a factory reset. Go to www.icloud.com, log in with your current Apple ID, select "Find My iPhone," choose the iPhone you want to dissociate from your primary Apple ID from the upper left, and then click the little circled X ("remove").
When you start the phone, it will have you go through the setup process again, at which time you need to create a unique Apple ID for the device. You can then restore it from your iTunes backup to get back your apps and other settings.
Whenever you use the iTunes store, use the login information (Apple ID and password) that you were using before. Basically, the second Apple ID that you created is purely used for accessing iCloud services, which includes synchronization of contacts, iCal events, and other such things.

You can't merge Apple IDs.
And you also can't change the name of an iTS Apple ID to another one that ends in a me.com.

How do I not share my contacts with family memebers?

I need HELP! I recently update all three of our phones with ios5 and icloud. I was using mobile me before and had and apple id already. All three devices were under the same apple id and I could view them on the same mobile me account, but each phone was seperate in the fact that we each had our own contacts. Now with the new ios5 and icloud we all have the same contacts which is everyone's combined on each phone. So I logged in to icloud and created seperate folders and put each person contacts from the main list into each person's folder I created thinking I could then delete the all contacts folder but if you do that it deletes the contact all together from all lists. I need help! What can I do to get each person's contacts back to their own phones and not have all contacts on each phone that are not needed? Please break it down step by step if you know how I can fix this whether it is turning off icloud on two devices and erasing what they have already duimped on there and creating a new apple id for each of their phones but then how can I get their contacts back on thier phone? so LOST!

simplest answer i can think of off the top of my head would be to turn off the contacts portion of your icloud(on the device) and use your computer to create the three contacts folders and likewise synchronize them with their respective devices
.to do so you will need to create "groups" in the program you use to store your contacts. i.e. google mail account. windows addressbook. outlook 2007 or 2010. or mac addressbook.
if you dont store them on an external program i suggest you put this on hold and do so immediately.......
ok so now that your contacts are secure on another program and your contacts are separated into groups(i like to have a shared group including the family contacts that i choose to put on each phone).
you will then need to connect your device to your computer via usb.
once your device is recognized by itunes and appears in the source list(the column on the left hand side)under devices. simply click on it. this will bring you to your synchronization interface.
at the top of this page you will see a list of tabs i.e. summary, info, apps etc.
1)go to the info tab.
2)place a checkmark in the "sync contacts with or sync addressbook contacts " checkbox.
3) choose your program from the dropdown menu
4)change the bullet point (the dot in the circle) from" all contacts" to "selected groups"
5) select the groups you want on the device which is currently connected.
6)click the apply button in the bottom righthand corner of the itunes window

Did you take a look at the new feature Apple - iOS 8 - Family Sharing ?
Apple - iCloud - Family Sharing
Up to now, songs bought from iTunes could only be played by the Apple ID that has been used to buy them.
If you set up Family Sharing, your daughter can also play your songs and use the same contact info as before.
If you don't want to do that, sync the contact info to the address book on your computer, and sync the info back, using iTunes:
Sync your iPhone, iPad and iPod with iTunes using USB
If the iPad already has her Apple ID and contact info on it, restore the phone from the latest iPad backup.
