How do I mix 4:3 and HD on DVD Studio Pro?

I am producing a DVD with DVD Studio Pro v4. The main content is 4:3 but I have other supporting content that is 16:9, more home movie style, that I want to put into an extras folder. Is this possible, or do I have to chop the 16:9 content to 4:3? Can the DVD support both? Can't find any reference in the manual. Options, anyone?

I found the answer. You can't. I'm dong the 16:9 content as anamorphic and see if that works. Or I will letterbox it. Please no worries about this one folks.

  • Exporting 16:9 file to quicktime and importing to dvd studio pro

Please help I am using final cut 7. I just exported a Dvd anamorphic movie file to quicktime file. The completed file is a 4:3 where the anamorphic image is squeezed. When I import into dvd studio pro to burn a dvd it stays as a 4:3 file and is then being encoded as 4:3.
When I exported the file  from final cut i used current settings ( as in my final cut audio video settings it is DV anamorphic)
How do I export retaining the 16:9 ratio?

In DVDSP, in the graphical view, click on the track to select it, and look at the the track inspector (menu View > Show Inspector). Make sure the track Display Mode is set to 16:9 Letterbox. This will play the track full screen 16:9 if played on a 16:9 TV, and will automatically letterbox it if played on a 4:3 TV.

  • How to import subtitles made with Final Cut in DVD studio Pro?

    Hello!
I made subtitles for a movie directly on a track of my final cut timeline. How can I import now this into DVD studio pro to make an independant subtitle track?
    thank you.

DVD Studio Pro can work with STL subtitle files. they are nothing more spectacular than a plain text file.
There's a ton of information in DVDSP's online manual, under the Help menu bar item.
search that pdf for "Creating an STL Format Subtitle File".
This file can be configured to display when the user wants to see it or made permanent with the "Force Display" option.
If you export your FCP Timeline the subtitles on it will be burned into the video permanently.

  • Timeline settings and transferring to DVD Studio Pro

I'm currently trying to get my demo reel finished, and I'm going through the long and tedious process of checking almost every setting in the Timeline settings to see which gives me the best quality.
Part of the problem may be that this is coming off of a DV tape. But I'm hoping to try out all my options before I settle on lower quality.
Does anyone have any suggestions on settings I can use (even if it's somewhere other than the Timeline settings) to get the best quality. I'm moving it in to DVD Studio Pro to finish out the reel, if that is crucial info. Thanks.
One other quick thing: I'm also trying to upload this to a video service. Any body got any suggestions on Quicktime settings I should use?
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Work in DV all the way, that will give you the best quality unless you want to add graphics. If you have complex graphics to add then make the timeline 10bit.
For DVDSP render out a self contained movie then either use compressor or DVDSP to encode the file. There are many settings in DVDSP, take a look at which ones are best based on content duration.

  • How can I import .mov file into dvd studio pro?

    Hi,
I have a .mov file and want to but a dvd with menu and chapters. But when I try to import the .mov file into dvd studio pro it says Incompatible format. How can I import my .mov file in to dvd studio pro?

    Two ways…
Transcode into a codec like Pro Res, import into DVDSP and let it do the encoding.
    Or better yet:
Import into Compressor, choose a DVD preset and let Compressor encode. It will make two files, separate video and audio files. Import those into DVDSP.
    Good luck.

  • IMovie and DVD Studio Pro

Finding myself using iMovie 11" more and more and not using Final Cut Studio, but i still rather use DVD Studio Pro 4 rather then iDVD. I usually mark my chapters in FCP 7 and i see that you also can mark chapters in iMovie, how i can export from iMovie at the higest quality and still retain the chapters and import into DVD Studio Pro.
    Thanks

I just finished making another DVD and I now recall the exact command. In DVDSP, right-click the movie file after it is placed in a track and select "Add embedded markers". If your movie file has chapter markers in it, they will appear.
Sometimes when I add a movie to a track in DVD Studio Pro, the embedded markers automatically appear and sometimes I have to manually add them with the above command.
The import markers command needs a special file with marker names and timecodes. iMovie cannot make one of these files although you can create your own in TextEdit. But that seems like more work than just adding them manually in DVDSP.

  • Sync Issues and Audio Drop-out from FCP to DVD Studio Pro

I have edited a piece in FCP 5.1.4 and all audio/video is in perfect sync. I have been using this program for several years with no issues, until now. Upon exporting with compressor and importing into DVD Studio Pro, the audio is out of sync by 15 seconds and after that first 15 seconds there is simply NO audio, period.
Any ideas? Please send the calvary...tight deadline and the hanging rope is getting shorter and shorter by the minute!
    Thanks

Could be something got corrupted in DVD SP (preferences). I have had my audio act strangely and playback getting bogged down. Repairing permissions and deleting prefs works for this one for me. Did you do any recent upgrades to the OS or QuickTime?

  • I can't burn a dvd using any method, Idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when i click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac

I can't burn a dvd using any method, idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when I click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac, or how do I do whatever I need to do to get it working: I have already tried using a lens cleaning cd and also restored my nvram or something i forget what it was called but i restarted my computer holding down  command+optoion+p+r and still nothing???
Free solutions are the best, although if I have to pay I will, I would prefer to not have to buy an external burner if possible and already know that is an option so please don't give me that answer... thank you for any help you can give

Unless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40.

  • HT1338 i purchased dvd studio pro and im trying to install it but when i go to click continue it gives me this  "you cant open the application gestalt tool becasue powerpc applications are no longer supported" what does that mean and how can i fix this ?

i purchased dvd studio pro and im trying to install it but when i go to click continue it gives me this  "you cant open the application gestalt tool becasue powerpc applications are no longer supported" what does that mean and how can i fix this ?

I note this information from Wikipedia: "DVD Studio Pro was a high-end software tool published by Apple Inc. to allow users to create DVD masters to be sent out for replication at production houses. Its tight integration with other Apple applications allows users to take Final Cut Pro and Motion projects and render them into the DVD format without encoding to intermediary formats. This streamlines the production workflow and reduces overhead."
If that is your intent, finding a substitute program that will run on your Mac may not be as efficient.  Others can advise you on alternatives, or you can post a new thread specifically with that question.
BTW: what Mac and what version of OS X?
If it is important to you to continue to use DVD Studio Pro, consider the option of installing Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels on your Mac:

  • How can i get my Imac, running OSX 10.6.8 with a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, how can i get Final Cut Pro 4 and DVD studio pro 2 to run on it?

I just bought an IMAC running OSX 10.6.8 (not sure what flavor that is). The processor is 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006). When i run Final Cut Pro 4 on it I get the following error.
                        "Configuration error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing
                                    * AGP graphics Card"
If Final Cut Pro 4 doesn't run on my system, what version of Final Cut can I run on this as I am a filmmaker and really am comfortable with Final Cut Pro.
On the same note I also have DVD studio Pro 2 and that just quits without any message.
Hope any of you can be some help.
    Thank you,

  • DVB-C recorded DVDs to Final Cut Pro to DVD Studio Pro and Flash - how?

As a TV journalist I am recording my works with my DVB-C Receiver and a DVD-Harddisc-Recorder from LG. The movies are stored on the harddisc and I burn them to DVDs in order to work with the files on my computer. What progrograms do I have to use in order to get file out of the DVD-vobs, that Final Cut Pro can read an work with. DVB-C is MPEG-encoded, right? But I don’t want to loose quality and don’t want to encode the material several times? In Final Cut I want to get rid of commerials and cut severel movies together that were broadcasted on several days. After that I want to get two differt files: 1. A flash movie form my website and 2. A file form my archive. With those files I want to complile DVDs with DVD Studio Pro for my customers later. Can anyone please give me a good and professional workflow to solve this common problem? Thanks a lot.

  • DVD Studio Pro crashes when accessing folders with mixed formats

DVD Studio Pro 4 on Mac Book Pro OSX 10.6.8
Program crashes whenever accessing my movies directory. It contains mostly HD content in MOV format. There are some MP4 and M4V in there too.
To check this I copied an MOV, MP4, and M4V into a separate directory. I added this folder to the Video tab of the Palette in DVDSP and same crash occurs until I remove all but MOV content.
Project setting is 1920 x 1080 HD. I have successfully imported several assets in MOV format.
My question is why would DVD Studio Pro crash just because it is pointed to a directory with mixed formats? Would it not just ignore to incorrect formats and move on? Why the crash if I am not trying to import them?

I was going to let this go doc, but....
I discovered the crash by accident while doing Ripple Current training - yes I am a complete DVD SP newbie! Anyway my story: Oh look! There is an icon pointing at my Movies directory in the Video tab. Gee thats cool lets see what is in it. Ooooh s&*t the program just crashed! That can't be right, lets just try it again. Now thats just wrong! I'll beat this thing so lets experiment. Lo and behold its a mixed format problem. Why doesn't DVD SP just ignore any unrecognized formats like any other program? Hmm, being the newbie I am, and there was no hint in the Ripple training, I would ask the docs on the Apple forum. They will know why and what to do!
DVD SP seemingly by default maps my Movies directory. My Movies directory has multiple formats in it from years of use. I have movies for my iPhone, iPad, movies for Vimeo and iTunes, as well as other distribution formats in the same directory. I also have been experimenting with different codecs. My Movies directory has been used as an Internet distribution point. So please excuse me if I did not clean out my Movies directory before launching DVD SP! Little did I know this would even happen. If I could "unmap" this selection permanently I would - do you know how to do this? So far I cannot find any preference for it.
In a round-about way you got there, however so did I on my own - isolate the project to its own directory and NEVER pick on the "Movies" icon. I am not satisfied since it would be really nice to block this from ever happening again. God forbid an incorrect format should ever sneak into the sacred project directory "sorry but DVD SP and incorrect formats don't play nicely", so stop doing that!

  • How Do I Use DVD Studio Pro Files In iDVD?

I had somebody create a DVD for me using DVD Studio Pro. (This was a compilation of many different videos.) It turned out great.
I now want to make a DVD of one of those videos on my own using iDVD '08.
I have the raw video/audio files. But, my problem is the raw files that were used for the DVD Studio Pro project are separated into one video file and one audio file. I don't know how I can get them both into iDVD. I was told that I have to recombine these two files into one file. But, how do I do this and still maintain the best quality?
(I am not a video expert by any means, but I can tell you that the video file is a ".mpeg" and the audio file is an ".ac3". When looking at the .mpeg file in the finder it lists its Kind as "MPEG Movie" and when looking at the .ac3 file in the finder it lists its Kind as "Unix Executable File".)
(I'm using iDVD 7.0.1 - I do have Quicktime Pro - I do not have the Quicktime MPEG-2 Playback component - I do not have DVD Studio Pro)
Thanks in advance for your help!

Q: How Do I Use DVD Studio Pro Files In iDVD?
    A: You don't, essentially.
DVDSP is apple's top end app and it is intended to be used with FCP > Compressor > DVDSP. All of these are pro apps.
i-Apps are consumer apps all of which are QT based. With that in mind ....
now that doesn't mean you can't use FCP > iDvd. You can. But you have to do it in a way that iDvd will read all the files (meaning you must think in terms of QuickTime and export in this way). So when you export your QT File / Movie from FCP over to iDvd, it will look something like this hopefully regardless of the raw image & audio files you have already compiled which unfortunately will NOT work with i-Apps BUT will work with apple's pro apps which is the intended workflow / direction of said files in the first place.
Btw ... if your QT movie has chapter markers then please use the following settings so iDvd can read these markers. (if on the other hand you were looking to export this file to DVDSP; then you would choose DVDSP Markers.
Let me know if the above helps. If not, just come on back.
